Our beautiful Dance Groups performed at The Joan last week in Penrith for the Blue Mountains/Nepean Dance Festival. Our dance groups again performed brilliantly – they are so sharp, precise and always look fantastic. Congratulations to Mrs Thurling, Ms Paulic and Mrs Veide for all their hard work and for giving such a lot of their own time to supervise our dancers at these evening performances.

Keeping Clairgate Clean Huge thanks to Charlotte, Zahra and Hannah from 3W for keeping out playground clean – you show respect for our beautiful school and we are very proud of you! Thank you to all our lovely students who help keep Clairgate clean and tidy – it can become very messy in windy weather and I appreciate all of you who take the extra time to pick up rubbish and put it in the bin!

Reminder –

Parking Parents – please do NOT park in the No Standing Zone at the front of the school. Apparently some parents continue to park there for longer than the allowed 3 minutes. This is very frustrating for all concerned – the zone was very hard for us to get – we campaigned for years to get this at the front of the school – please do not spoil it now! The rule is you may stop for no longer than 3 minutes and stay with-in 2 metres of the car to either drop off or pick up a child. Should anyone wish to inform the rangers of their concerns they can contact them through Penrith Council on 4732 7777 and ask for the Parking Rangers. Similarly, please do NOT park in the staff car park (unless you have a Disability Parking Permit). It has been noted that frequently parents and caregivers swing into the driveway at a fast speed and then do 3 or more point turns to leave both in the mornings and in the afternoons. This is very dangerous and is putting young people’s lives at risk.

Thank you to the many, many people that treat the school area with respect and safety.

Looking forward to seeing you all at Clairgate On Parade next week. It is such a joyous experience to see all the talented students showcasing their talents with the hardworking and committed teachers and supportive and proud parents.

Thanks everyone, Have a lovely fortnight.

Regards,

Mrs Michelle Lawrow Principal Clairgate – Caring, Kind, Creative Kids

Debating News

The school’s 2019 Public Speaking competition was held on Wednesday 28th August in the school hall. The students all performed excellently on the day and showed their abilities with both speech construction and presentation skills. The finalists were: Year 3: - 3T Ryac Phillips, 3CG Zachary Rudd and Joshua Montebello, 3W Zahra Arjmand and Melita Demanuele Year 4: - 4B Jessica Ghananim and Ellise Gordon, 4J Aliyah Murray and Krisha Dalia Year 5: - 5A Hannah Simpson and Daniela Popovic, 5G Eloise Curran and Leighton Dehghan, 5M Bethany Rudd and Alexis Deaves, 5T Dane Thompson and Piper Hamrol Year 6: - 6A Matthew Wilson and Jye Kosorukow, 6G Mitchell Perry and Leah Jay, 6M Paige Leonard and Nathan Jenkins, 6T Ava Alce and Zane Ulberg Deciding the winners was a difficult choice, as all the students made magnificent efforts, and all the scores were very close. The three teacher panels all confirmed the winners for each grade: Year 3 – Zachary Rudd, Year 4 – Aliyah Murray, Year 5 – Hannah Simpson, Year 6 – Matthew Wilson

On Tuesday 10 September Clairgate hosted the local STEP’s school’s debating competition. There were three debates held on the day, and the final debate saw Clairgate versus Blackwell. Hannah and Eloise were chairperson and timekeeper on the day, and did an excellent job organising and helping to run the debates. Ava, Bethany, Layla and Leah were on the debating team for the day, and they did a magnificent job in writing and presenting their own speeches. One of the girls showed amazing resilience when her palm cards were out of order, she went and reorganised them, composed herself and finished her speech strongly. In a very close result Blackwell was awarded the decision, but the girls did an excellent debate and are to be commended for their efforts.

The Book Fair and Book Parade were held on Open Day earlier this month. It was a

beautiful sunny day for our little stars to dress as their favourite book characters and

celebrate everything that is great about books and reading.

The whole week focussed around books and included visits from Clifford the big red

dog and some special superheroes to help us celebrate Book Week with this year’s

theme of Reading is My Secret Power. In the lead up to Book Week all of the classes

shared books from the shortlisted titles to try and choose who they think should win

Book of the Year!

The Book Fair was a lot of fun and thanks to our wonderful Clairgate community was

our most successful ever! We raised money for our school to buy resources and had

many books donated to our school library. Thank you everyone!

A massive thank you goes to Mrs Katie Rigg and Ms Megan McKenzie for their

assistance with set up, pack up and the running of the Book Fair all week. Thank you

also to all the fabulous staff that volunteered their time before and after school to

ensure the Book Fair was a success. Many happy children went home with new books

to explore.
