Clairgate Public School Care, Excellence, Innovation, Opportunity in a positive, dynamic environment Term 1 Week 6 1 st March 2016 Clairgate Chronicle Welcome to the Clairgate Chronicle for this fortnight – Week 6, Term 1. Clairgate Super Fish We look forward to this Friday’s District Swimming Carnival – held at Mt Druitt Swimming Pool – good luck to all competitors! Supporting our Farmers This Thursday, 3 rd March, we will be holding a special Mufti Day and Sno Cone Day to support the farmers in Australia who are experiencing hardship. Come dressed as a farmer and don’t forget to bring a donation for this special cause. Clean Up Clairgate Day This Friday (5 th March) we will be doing our part for Clean Up Australia Day by cleaning up our school. We ask that all children bring a pair of gloves if they can to help clean up our wonderful school. (NB - you don’t need to buy gloves for this – but if you have a spare pair your child could bring these to school). Special Interest Groups Our exciting Interest Groups have started and they include chess, science, recorder, craft, art, board games and brain teasers. These are in addition to our excellent dance, drama and choir groups. The students have shown great passion for these groups. TOPSTEPS and STEPping Up Together We will again be holding a “TOPSTEPS” Day this term (Tuesday, 5 th April, 2016) and a “STEPping Up Together” Day next term – these are days where children with particular gifts and talents have the opportunity to share and develop these talents with passionate teachers from the 7 schools in the STEPS community. Our Aboriginal students along with their friends will also have the chance to explore and understand their rich and diverse heritage. Children who have demonstrated strengths in particular areas will be chosen for the TOPSTEPS program – parents will be notified shortly. Mobile Phones We recommend your child does not bring a mobile phone to school – however, if your child needs to bring a mobile phone to school for safety reasons on the walk to or from school – they must hand them in to the office as soon as they arrive at school. These may then be collected at 3.00pm. At 3.00pm… At Clairgate we all care about the safety of our children – however some people are not doing the right thing in the afternoons. I have seen several cars u-turning at the crossing or over double yellow lines – a very dangerous and irresponsible action – please do not do this right outside our school! I would also ask that if you are picking your child up in the afternoon you do not wait longer than the 2-3 minutes in the “Kiss and Drop” zone – this is extremely annoying to all those people who are doing the right thing. I am aware that this is only a few people - many thanks to the huge majority of our wonderful parents who always do the right thing. Some general reminders… District Swimming Carnival – Friday, 4 th March, 2016 Open Night – Erskine Park HS – Thursday, 10 th March, 2016 Open Night - St Clair HS – 6.00pm Tuesday, 15th March, 2016 Harmony Day – We will celebrate this on Monday, 21 st March, 2016 Parent/Teacher Interviews – Monday, 4 th April, 2016 School Photos – Thursday, 7 th April, 2016 Have a wonderful fortnight, Kind regards, Mrs Michelle Lawrow Principal Clairgate – just great!!

Our Record Breaker! Congratulations to Billy Higgins who set a new Clairgate record in the 8yrs Boys 50m Freestyle at

District Swimming Carnival

The 2016 St Marys District Swimming Carnival will be held at Mt Druitt Pool this Friday 4th March. Good luck to all of our competitors who will be representing Clairgate on the day.

Summer Sport Gala Days At this stage, it looks as though there will be two Summer Sport Gala Days this year: 1. Thursday 28th April (Early Term 2 when it is cooler)

2. Thursday 13th October. (Early Term 4)

All Summer PSSA Gala Teams (OzTag, Cricket, T-Ball) have been selected and will be training each Friday at sport time in the lead up to each Gala Day.

Winter Sport Clairgate’s Winter PSSA competitions will proceed the same as in previous years. That is, Terms 2 & 3 will involve weekly Friday PSSA games involving Rugby League, Soccer, Netball and AFL.

Panthers Assembly Last week, Yrs 3 – 6 students were treated to a special presentation from Emily (Panthers Development Officer) as well as current Panthers NRL stars Suaia Matgai and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak. This assembly included very important advice relating to making healthy choices regarding nutrition, fitness, playing sport and getting along. All guests spoke well and our students were very receptive, respectful and well behaved.
