Inspection Technique Sheets
Creating Clarity
Errors in:• Masking• Part Mark• Part Configuration
Lead to:• Product Rejects• Escapes• Increased Cost
?
Challenge
Engineers & QAs:Create
• Tech Sheets• Shop Aids• Descriptions on Work Orders
Workers:• Encounter complicated
information daily• Have different
communication styles• Come from different
educational backgrounds• All have different skill sets,
talents, and challenges
Challenge
The people:Language Challenge
English is not the first language of some of our most talented employees.
“I have hard time with too many words. I understand this [points to the word ‘masking’] and this [points to the masking dot diameter number]. Make with pictures. Not so many words. That will help.” -Masker
Challenge
ChallengeOld, complicated masking sheet. Employees always asked for help and clarification.
The people:Language Challenge
In the mix of language and communication challenges, ASL is used by many of our employees.
“Sentences can be read and understood differently from employee to employee.” -Supervisor
Challenge
Challenge“No Paint Required” statement caused confusion and an unnecessary rejection.
The people:Newer employees
New employees often have a difficult time adapting to aerospace data and drawings, including understanding old tech sheets & shop aids.
“This shop aid is really confusing and I’m having a hard time understanding the drawing, can you help?” –Finish Inspector
Challenge
ChallengeBoth sides of part are flat. Employees always asked for clarification.
What are the main goals?
Eliminate Errors
&
Create Inspection Technique Sheets PRO-ACTIVELY rather than reactively.
Goals
Additional Goals
Goals
• Bridge the gap between Engineering and the workers who complete the work order operations
• Clarity
• Consistency
• Increased productivity & reduced cost
What’s the Solution?
SolutionCreate a communication cycle between the workers and the engineers.
Assemble a team of Quality Engineering Aidesand train them to create Inspection Tech Sheets to a single standard
Solution
• Research each job
• Ensure all information is accurate
• Review Engineering Masters
• Focus on images & symbols
• Brevity with words
• Accurate & clear photos of parts at each pertinent work instruction step
Designate a Team Lead to ensure Consistency
Solution
Clarity
Get feedback from an employee who will be using that information to complete their work.
Understand the Person AND the Process.
Focus on Images & Symbols
Solution
To help workers understand the work order operation, technical information, and drawings.
Add Inspection Check& Rejection History
Solution
To help the Quality Inspectors look at the main, identifying features.
Feedback
“This is much clearer. I understand now. Thank you.”
H.T., Masking
Feedback
“Better.” [thumbs up]
“Thank you.”

Feedback
“It would be great if we could have video tech sheets for some of our more complicated parts.”
-Engineering
In closing…

By having a positive, ‘can do’ attitude
we, as a team, can
help create clarity through consistentInspection Technique Sheets.
“Through responsible management and solid corporate partnerships, we create and maintain a stable, rewarding place of work, where persons
