Partners in Catholic Education From Mr. Jeff Ohnoutka, Scotus President
The school year continues to fly by. It is hard to be-lieve that February is upon us and we are reaching the middle of the third quarter.
At this time of the year, our development office and the committees for Gala are busy planning this important event for our school.
Our cost to educate a student at Scotus Central Catholic is more than $7,700. The tuition parents pay covers around 36% of the total cost to educate. Fundrais-ing in our school accounts for 34% of the cost to educate each student. This is why a night like Gala is so important to the budget of our school.
We need your help to make this night a huge suc-cess. There are many ways that you can volunteer to help at this event. I have listed below opportunities the Devel-opment Office has identified in need of your assistance. Let’s make the job of our Development Office and Gala committees a little easier by filling these spots.
All of us are partners in the Catholic education pro-vided at Scotus. By doing our part, we set a great exam-ple for our students. Our students recognize the sacrifice and commitment adults make to ensure the tradition of Catholic education. This example is how schools like ours stand the test of time.
Thank you in advance to all of you that will give of your time and make the 2018 Scotus Gala another huge success.
Call the development office to sign up for: 1. Serve the Gala dinner Sat., April 14, 6:45–9
PM (adults get a free prime rib dinner in return.) Students can also serve dinner at the same time and get a pizza dinner.
2. Sell Gala lottery tickets by picking up a few tickets to sell out to friends, family, work associates and clients.
3. Set up tarps and silent auction tables in the Dowd Center Tues., April 10, 5-7:30 PM.
4. Set up the cafeteria for the Gala Thurs., April 12, 3-7:30 PM. 5. Help clean up immediately after the Gala Sat.,
April 14, 10:15-1:30 PM) 6. Help clean up Sun., April 15, 9-11 AM.

Campaign Goal for A/C Met Kudos to the 601 supporters who helped reach the
$110,000 goal to add air conditioning to the Dowd Activi-
ty Center and weight room. The goal is to have the instal-
lation completed for this spring’s Graduation ceremony.
To date, $117,476.92 has been raised. Campaign
expenses included $644.29 for postage; $833, enve-
lopes and letterhead; and $76.36, PayPal fees from
online donations for a total of $1,553.65.
Any funds not applied to the air conditioning project
will be invested in: 1) new exterior doors to the court-
yard and next to the maintenance shop to more effective-
ly keep the winter chill out of the building; and 2) next
fall’s annual appeal goals of a new roof for Memorial Hall
and a new full-size bus for student activities.
While the current mission has been accomplished,
it’s not too late to donate. If you have not given yet and
wish to participate in the annual appeal, please do as
there are two large projects to fund next fall.
Thank you, Shamrock Nation, for your prayerful
support!

If weather necessitates that school closes during the day, all four Catholic schools will respond together. Mr. Ohnoutka will consult with the elementary principals before any dismissal is announced. A civil dispatch will be sent out.

Return on Donations Fuels Scholarships to Scotus
The Children’s Scholarship Fund of Omaha pro-vides scholarships to help students attend our Catholic schools through contributions.
Every dollar contributed is matched by nearly $2 from the Children’s Scholarship Fund of Omaha and re-turned to Columbus as scholarships. Last year, $20,239 was collected in the three Columbus parishes and sub-mitted CSF-Omaha. For that investment, Columbus Catholic students received $60,700 in scholarships.
Gifts may be tax-deductible and can make a differ-ence. For example, if you donated $25 last year, it be-came a $75 scholarship; or $100, a $300 scholarship.
Last fall, 72 scholarships were awarded to students currently attending one of our Catholic schools in Co-lumbus. Please be generous with your cash donation or your check made out to: “Children’s Scholarship Fund.” Donations may be dropped off at Scotus or any of the Catholic parish offices.
Support Still Coming in for Chuck Hagel STEAM Lab
The Scotus Development Office continues to re-ceive contributions for the new Chuck Hagel STEAM Lab. In the final weeks of December 2017, Scotus re-ceived a $30,000 grant from the Columbus Future Fund, a $10,000 grant from the Leeolou Family Foun-dation and an additional $300 from individual support-ers. To date, more than $294,000 net has been raised for this special project.
