“Age of Wonderful Nonsense”
This time period was considered as a very exciting period of time.
The economy was successful and plus there was a lot of changes to the society and culture itself
They face new styles of dancing/fashion, had new improvements in technology, and faced a lot of new laws.
Technology

The Industrial Revolution gave people higher expectations for improving their living. The 1920s also introduced the use of machinery which in the end increased productivity, also was decreasing demand for laborers.
Women's Rights
The 19th amendment finally passed which allowed woman to vote.
Passed by Congress June 4, 1919, and ratified on August 18, 1920
Could join the workforce National American Woman Suffrage Association
Sports They wanted something new to enjoy life after the war so
they came up with new sports, and sports ended up being the breakout decade for the 1920s
People from other countries would travel to America for sports
Baseball was very popular during this age. The most popular American athlete of the 1920s was baseball player
Babe Ruth.
Fashion Men's fashion became more youthful but women's fashion
changed much more drastically. Men wore more suits, and nice shoes. Women’s fashion was known as “flapper” style. Woman started to dress differently after they had more
freedom.
Urbanization Workers move to big cities to find better economic
opportunities. People started to live in cities, or in smalls towns.
Rich people lived in the city. Middle Classed people lived in suburbs. Poor people lived in back alleys, and or courtyards.
Harlem Renaissance
Introduced African American’s Culture. Dancing, Music, Art, and literature
African Americans demanded equality They moved to Harlem to get jobs since they were
unemployed due to the Civil War Worked a lot and ended up changing people’s views on
their race because of how much they worked and helped out.
Clubs/Music Dance clubs became popular in this time period Harlem played a key role in the development of
dance styles Music was improvised to be better so they could
dance to it Jazz became the most popular form of music for
young people and the flapper culture
Prohibition Made illegal the manufacture, import and sale of beer, wine
and hard liquor Woman were mostly behind this because they wanted to
stop being abused by their husbands Gangsters would hire men to smuggle/hijack in rum from
Canada and bring it into the U.S Al Capone was one of the most famous gangsters
