i. Rebuilding Together is a national nonprofit whose mission is to create a healthy environment for homeowners who otherwise would not be able to afford repairs or modifications to their homes to make them safe and adaptive to the needs of the elderly, disabled, low-‐income families with children, veterans, and non-‐profit facilities. This nonprofit was founded in 1973.
a. Communities, volunteers, and sponsors collaborate to provide no-‐cost home repairs in the Pierce County area, as well as Federal Way, Auburn, Seattle, Tukwila, and Everett.
b. The repairs are funded via fundraising, donors, grants, and sponsors.
c. Services are provided year-‐round, and may include the following: home modification to make it easier for residents to access the home (bars, ramps, and height-‐specific toilets), emergency work (roof or furnace repair); working on electrical outlet and heating issues.
ii. Logistics of Rebuilding Together
a. Rebuilding Day is a sponsored service day that is held the last Saturday of April, when large projects are carried out. This may involve 25 homes and 400 volunteers who help to make homes more accessible and safe.
b. For the home to qualify for repairs/modifications, there are requirements (e.g. must own and reside in home, must plan/hope to stay for at least three years, need homeowners insurance, must have a qualifying income – 50% median income or 80% for veterans).
c. Not all affiliates operate the same way. For example, unlike South Sound, Rebuilding Together Seattle will not do roof repair, rewire the home, do major sewer work or

electrical system repairs, etc. One should check with the affiliate.
