Oral Rehydration in the Emergency Room or at Home !General!Instructions:!Give!1!teaspoon!to!1!tablespoon!(5!to!15!milliliters!or!“ml”)!of!clear!fluid!such!as!Pedialyte!every!5!minutes!by!oral!syringe,!cup!or!spoon.!After!30!minutes!without!throwing!up,!double!the!amount.!If!your!child!throws!up,!take!a!10Fminute!break!and!start!again.!!This!works!in!more!than!90%!of!children!who!are!throwing!up.

Age2Related!Instructions:!For$non&breast&fed$babies$under$1$year$old:!Use!a!fluid!like!Pedialyte!or!your!child’s!regular!formula.!!!

For$breast&fed$babies:!Breastfeed!on!one!breast!for!2!minutes!every!10!minutes.!If!your!child!doesn’t!throw!up!after!3F4!feedings,!increase!to!4F5!minutes!of!feeding!every!10F15!minutes.!$For$children$over$1$year$old:$Options!for!rehydration!include:!

•!Pedialyte!or!other!rehydration!solution!•!Rehydration1solution!popsicles!•!10!saltine1type!crackers!plus!8!ounces!of!half1strength!

juice!(4!ounces!of!juice!mixed!with!4!ounces!of!water).!!•!Do!not!use!full1strength!juice!and!“ade”!drinks!like!Gatorade.!They!

have!too!much!sugar!in!them!
