TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

The reign of God comes about because people commit to reversing their lives completely, to embracing new vision, new values. Many popular television shows exploit an unattractive side of human nature by pitting contestants against one another, even to the point of performing dangerous stunts or devious schemes, to gain money or favor. At the liturgy, we counter that impulse by committing ourselves to live generously. In response to Christ’s total gift, we offer bread and wine as the emblems of our lives, our hopes, our joys and sorrows. The bread and wine carried to the altar contain our lives, and by offering our lives to God, we prepare to receive the gift of God’s own life. We are to become what we receive: the body of Christ.

HUMAN CONCERNS COMMISSION

Dear Lord, Hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need.

Remember Those Far From Home LCpl. Elijah Burgins Po3. John Castro

Pvt. Peter Eck Pvt. Zachary Flick Lt. Eric Infante

Sgt. Scott Majewski Kevin Moon Mullins

Afc. Jeremy McNeel Pfc. Joseph Pusateri Theodore Soupart

Let us remember and pray for those who are always in our hearts. If you have loved ones who are currently serving in the Armed Forces, please call the rectory at 847-437-6208 and we will add their names to our bulletin list. When your loved one has returned home, please let us know so we can remove their name from the list. Thank you.

End Domestic Violence NOW!

Domestic Violence Hotline

Domestic Violence incidents rise during difficult financial times. If you see a family in trouble, please call the hotline.

MY BROTHER’S KEEPER MINISTRY

Seniors, do you need a ride to the doctor or grocery store? Please give us at least 3 days notice. This is a free service to all our senior pa-rishioners. We are not able to drive for surgery or if anesthesia is involved. Call Linda at 847-439-5372.

Need for drivers If you have an hour or two to spare once a month and would like to drive seniors to the doctor or grocery store, contact Linda at 847-439-5372

St.Vincent de Paul is an emergency source for food and short-term financial help for parishioners and those living within the parish boundaries. Please call 847-437-6208. Requests will be handled with care and confidentiality.

In the Gospel, Jesus says: “This is how it is with the reign of God. A man scatters seed on the ground. He goes to bed and gets up day after day. Through it all the seed sprouts and grows without his knowing how it happens.”

Through your almsgiving you are sowing seeds that grow far greater than you know. Your gift to St. Vincent de Paul brings Christ’s love and

compassion to the poor.

A WAY TO ADVOCATE FOR IMMIGRANTS

“Every threat to the family is a threat to society itself. The future of humanity, as Saint John Paul II often said, passes through the family (cf.Familiaris Consortio, 85). So protect your families! See in them your country’s greatest treasure and nourish them always by prayer and the grace of the sacraments.” -Pope Francis

Migrant families who are escaping various forms of violence and persecution in their homeland are being routinely separated at the boarder. Since October 2017, over 700 children have been separated from their parents, including over 100 children under the age of four. On May 4, 2018, DHS stated that it wll refer all individuals who cross the border without authorization for criminal prosecution, including adult members of family units. If implemented, this pol-icy will undoubtedly lead to a drastic increase in incidences of family separation.

ACTION: Ask Congress to protect immigrant families seeking safety and shelter from violence. Visit www.justiceforimmigrants.org/take-action/action-alerts/for ways to contact your officials.

For additional ways to advocate for immigrants and refugees visit: www.CatholicsAndImmigrants.org

June Activities for Catholic Families

Here are some activities taken from RealLifeAtHome.com

♦ Have prayer time near a fountain or body of water and talk about the gift God has given us in the Sac-rament of Baptism (the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist is June 24th).

♦ Have a snack with honey (such as bread and honey) and talk about honey being part of St. John the Baptist's diet. If possible, use locally produced honey available at many Farmers' Markets.

♦ Share a story about Jesus with others, just like Sts. Peter and Paul did. Their feast day is June 29.

Lord, Teach Us to Pray: Exploring the Lord's Prayer All adults and high school teens are invited to this presentation on the Lord's Prayer.

Participants will investigate the seven petitions found in the Lord's Prayer,

allowing for a more in-depth understanding of what we are praying and why.

Please join us on

Tuesday, July 10 at 6:45 p.m.

in the Parish Center.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY

Daily Mass in June

On June 19, June 20, and June 21, the priests of the Archdiocese will convene for a priests' convocation, which is a retreat experience. Priests will gather to build community to-gether and all are hoping to grow in their own discipleship and inspire each other to greater witness for the Lord. We pray for the success of this convocation!

Because most priests will be attending the convocation in June, the Cardinal has asked that there be NO WEEKDAY MASSES ON JUNE 19, JUNE 20, OR JUNE 21. St. Cecilia will offer Word and Communion services on those dates lead by lay women. The Word and Communion services will be held at the usual Mass time, 8 a.m. The Rosary will be prayed afterward, as it would be during the week after Daily Mass. The Daily Mass schedule will be the same on June 18 and June 22, as it will be the rest of the month. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Lisa Mersereau at the parish office 847-437-6208.
