THANK YOU! On behalf of our Catholic
secondary school students, the Superintendent
of Catholic Schools, Dr. Michael Griffin,
would like to express sincere thanks to all
those who participated in the 2017 High School Collection.
We deeply appreciate your support of Catholic high
schools as they pursue their mission of education and
evangelization.
Please remember those who have gone
before us marked with the sign of faith.
Also, remember the sick of the parish at
home, in hospitals and in convalescent
homes, especially, Diane Boggio, Erik Gilbuena, and
Paul Gorski.
Parish Council Elections Normally, during the month of
January an announcement is made
that we are seeking new Parish Council members for the
election to be held in March. As you are all aware, the
Archdiocese is in the midst of the Pastoral Planning
process which will likely affect the Parishes of St. Gabriel
and St. Joseph. Therefore, the Parish Council and I have
decided to forgo elections this year and to extend the terms
of those currently serving until the process is completed.
Thank you for your understanding and please continue to
support our parishes with your prayers. Mark Regan
Friday, February 3rd, is the Feast of St.
Blaise.
Throats will be blessed at the 7:30 AM
Mass that morning.
THE FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JANUARY 29, 2017
For the past several years, Mrs. Gayle
Brick has been a friendly and familiar
face in our parishes. She exercised many
roles from serving as the Director of
Religious Education at St. Joseph Parish to her current role
as Coordinator of Parish Life and Ministries for both Saint
Gabriel and Saint Joseph Parishes. Gayle will be leaving
this post at the end of January. I know that you join me in
thanking Gayle for her unwavering commitment and
service to our parishes. Since my arrival, I am personally
indebted to Gayle for her highly competent, professional,
and caring nature. Her legacy will continue through the
many ministries she supported throughout her tenure. I
invite all of you to a coffee reception in her honor next
Sunday, February 5th, after both Masses at St. Joseph
Church. May God’s choicest blessings shower upon
Gayle in all of her future endeavors. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. John Melnick
First Friday Holy Hour
“If in our time Christians must be
distinguished above all by the ‘art of prayer’,
how can we not feel a renewed need to spend
time in spiritual converse, in silent adoration,
in heartfelt love before Christ present in the
Most Holy Sacrament? How often, dear brothers and
sisters, have I experienced this, and drawn from it
strength, consolation and support!” (Pope St. John Paul II,
Ecclesia de Eucharistia, no.25)
On February 3rd, exposition, adoration and benediction of
the Blessed Sacrament will take place at St. Joseph Church
between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. All are invited to attend.
Safety Team The Parish Council has determined that our
Parish would benefit from a standing Safety
Team. The team would function as a part of the
Building and Grounds Sub-committee of the Parish
Council. The purpose of the team would be to develop a
safety plan for our Parish.
The plan should include:
Emergency evacuation plans
Training of ushers and others to assist in an
evacuation
Evaluation of items identified by parishioners
that are causing safety concerns
Periodic safety walks to assess the facility
If you are interested and have experience either at your
place of employment or in an organization or in a function
that you participate in, please contact us. You can leave
your name at the Rectory Office or you may call Steve Van
Gasbeck at 860-688-9366. Mark Regan

Saint Gabriel Memorial Fund It is customary and fitting to remember loved
ones who have died with memorial donations to
a favorite cause or charity. In this way, the
memory of the deceased is honored and a good work, either
civic or religious, is perpetuated. There are numerous
charities that have been traditionally designated for such
purpose.
We are grateful to the following who have donated to the
Saint Gabriel Memorial Fund in loving memory of:
Nancy McKiernan
Wayne Reiske
