    Daily 7:30 AM Masses

    Monday through Friday

THANK YOU! On behalf of our Catholic

    secondary school students, the Superintendent

of Catholic Schools, Dr. Michael Griffin,

would like to express sincere thanks to all

those who participated in the 2017 High School Collection.

We deeply appreciate your support of Catholic high

schools as they pursue their mission of education and

    evangelization.

Please remember those who have gone

before us marked with the sign of faith.

Also, remember the sick of the parish at

home, in hospitals and in convalescent

homes, especially, Diane Boggio, Erik Gilbuena, and

    Paul Gorski.

Parish Council Elections Normally, during the month of

    January an announcement is made

that we are seeking new Parish Council members for the

election to be held in March. As you are all aware, the

Archdiocese is in the midst of the Pastoral Planning

process which will likely affect the Parishes of St. Gabriel

and St. Joseph. Therefore, the Parish Council and I have

decided to forgo elections this year and to extend the terms

of those currently serving until the process is completed.

Thank you for your understanding and please continue to

support our parishes with your prayers. Mark Regan

Friday, February 3rd, is the Feast of St.

    Blaise.

Throats will be blessed at the 7:30 AM

    Mass that morning.

  • THE FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JANUARY 29, 2017

For the past several years, Mrs. Gayle

Brick has been a friendly and familiar

face in our parishes. She exercised many

roles from serving as the Director of

Religious Education at St. Joseph Parish to her current role

as Coordinator of Parish Life and Ministries for both Saint

Gabriel and Saint Joseph Parishes. Gayle will be leaving

this post at the end of January. I know that you join me in

thanking Gayle for her unwavering commitment and

service to our parishes. Since my arrival, I am personally

indebted to Gayle for her highly competent, professional,

and caring nature. Her legacy will continue through the

many ministries she supported throughout her tenure. I

invite all of you to a coffee reception in her honor next

Sunday, February 5th, after both Masses at St. Joseph

Church. May God’s choicest blessings shower upon

Gayle in all of her future endeavors. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. John Melnick

    First Friday Holy Hour

“If in our time Christians must be

distinguished above all by the ‘art of prayer’,

how can we not feel a renewed need to spend

time in spiritual converse, in silent adoration,

in heartfelt love before Christ present in the

Most Holy Sacrament? How often, dear brothers and

sisters, have I experienced this, and drawn from it

strength, consolation and support!” (Pope St. John Paul II,

    Ecclesia de Eucharistia, no.25)

On February 3rd, exposition, adoration and benediction of

the Blessed Sacrament will take place at St. Joseph Church

between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. All are invited to attend.

Safety Team The Parish Council has determined that our

Parish would benefit from a standing Safety

Team. The team would function as a part of the

Building and Grounds Sub-committee of the Parish

Council. The purpose of the team would be to develop a

    safety plan for our Parish.

    The plan should include:

    Emergency evacuation plans

Training of ushers and others to assist in an

    evacuation

Evaluation of items identified by parishioners

    that are causing safety concerns

Periodic safety walks to assess the facility

If you are interested and have experience either at your

place of employment or in an organization or in a function

that you participate in, please contact us. You can leave

your name at the Rectory Office or you may call Steve Van

    Gasbeck at 860-688-9366. Mark Regan

“Do You Believe” – Lent 2017

The Lenten sessions of “Do You Believe” will begin on Ash Wednesday, March 1st, and continue for the next 5 Wednesday mornings in Lent. Using Lectio Divina (divine reading) Deacon Ron will assist participants to reflect upon the account in St. John’s gospel of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. This account is the gospel reading for the Fifth Sunday of Lent on the weekend of April 1st and 2nd. Each session will be held in Fr. Doherty Hall at St. Joseph Church beginning at 10:30 a.m. and concluding at 11:30 a.m. If you wish to attend please contact either St. Gabriel Rectory (860-688-4905 or gabrielchurch.comcast.net) or St. Joseph Rectory (860-688-9566 or [email protected]) by February 20th so sufficient copies of the program material will be available.

    Remember: The next Youth Group

    meeting is scheduled for Sunday,

    February 5th, **4 – 5:30p.m.**

We will be cooking several meals that will be served at the

ImmaCare Shelter Dinner on February 20th. We are

asking families to help by providing the ingredients for

these meals. A sign-up form has been created and can be

    found at the following: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0d4dacae29a7f49-youth.

Please RSVP for the February 5th meeting to Youth

Group Leader, Mrs. Suzanne Hawran, at

    [email protected] or 860-508-7520.

Saint Gabriel Memorial Fund It is customary and fitting to remember loved

ones who have died with memorial donations to

a favorite cause or charity. In this way, the

memory of the deceased is honored and a good work, either

civic or religious, is perpetuated. There are numerous

charities that have been traditionally designated for such

    purpose.

We are grateful to the following who have donated to the

Saint Gabriel Memorial Fund in loving memory of:

    Nancy McKiernan

    Wayne Reiske

The next Prayer Shawl Meeting will be on

Monday, February 13, at 1:00 pm in St. Gabriel

Parish Hall. Knitters and crocheters are invited to

join with us in this very rewarding ministry. For

more information, call Pat at 860-688-1692.
