STEWARDSHIP Our Way of Life
SOME STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS: Today’s second reading reminds us that we are the adopted sons and daughters – the heirs – of God. We are good stewards of our inheritance when we share our faith and fulfill Our Lord’s command to “go…and make disciples of all the nations.” When we reach out to others we often find new strength within ourselves. On May 31, we celebrate the Feast of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary to her cousin Eliza-beth. It’s a homey story – one woman helping out another at the end of her pregnancy. It’s a stewardship story, too, for Mary had the time and desire to be of service, and she gave those gifts without reservation. LIVING STEWARDSHIP: We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who rec-ognize that life is a gift from God and a sacred trust. “What are you going to do today with your gift of life?” CELEBRATING OUR GIFTEDNESS: We celebrate the gifts of time, leadership, and service shared with us by our RESPECT FOR LIFE COMMITTEE. This committee addresses the issue of abortion and also seeks to educate on the need to respect the dignity of the handi-capped and elderly. The Infant Program provides for the needs of economically deprived infants. Call Anne (631-598-2037) for more information or to join. PARISH FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP: 5/20/18 Collection: $15,816.20 5/22/17 Collection: $13,288.10 2018 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL: Parish Goal: $85,900.00 Pledged: $46,064.00 (53.6%) Collected: $29,271.50 Number of Donors: 180
Thank you for sharing your gifts of treasure.
Father, You inspired the Virgin Mary to visit Elizabeth and assist her in her need. Keep us open to the prompting of Your Spirit and always ready
to use Your gifts to help each other. Amen.
EMPLOYMENT MINISTRY: At St. Martin’s Employment Program we maintain a database of personnel seeking employment in the local Long Island market. We assist them by providing counseling services including resume development and by making available a wide range of job search capabilities. Our extensive client database covers a wide range of employment experi-ence ranging from office work, sales help, factory work, food handling, home care, and companions to assist the elderly. If you can help, we can use volunteers on Mondays & Wednesdays, for just four hours per day, to assist people in finding suitable jobs. We need parishioners who can interview clients, prepare resumes, and perform job searches. If you wish to help please call Frank, Kathy, or Rosemary during regular office hours or leave a message. This ministry is staffed by volun-teer case workers. Phone: 631-598-2378; Fax: 631-598-2380 Email: [email protected] Office Hours: Monday & Wednesday, 10:00AM-2:00PM, in Outreach Office. OUTREACH: We express our gratitude to the students of St Martin of Tours School, their parents and the school staff for their faithfulness in the First Fridays Food Drive. Thank you also to all our other donors from the community who provide to our pantry. Your generosity is always greatly appreciated. Items needed now: pancake syrup, Jello, pudding, peanut butter, jelly, tuna, cooking oil, and soup. Thank you again.
SOCIAL MINISTRY RESPECT LIFE: We must stress that there are alternatives to abortion. We honor the work of more than 3,000 pregnancy centers, as well as those hospitals, agencies and medical centers in solidarity with women in need of counseling, pre - and post-natal care, housing, material support and adoption services. We need to make it clear that no woman has to feel that abortion is her only option because it isn’t. One agency that focuses on information and education is the L.I. Coalition for Life. There are numerous other agencies and programs located in both Nassau & Suffolk Counties to assist the expectant mother and her baby. Other programs are available to cover post-abortion counseling for women & men. Parish Outreach has a com-plete listing of these services and can also provide guidance to other programs available. For further assistance, please contact our Outreach office at 631-264-4840, or stop by Monday-Friday, 10:00AM - 4:00PM to talk with a caseworker. CARING SPIRIT MINISTRY: Our May movie, "St. Paul the Apostle," was exciting to watch and extremely informative. Although we had to take an intermission from the over 2 hour movie, no one lost interest or felt that it was too long. We needed some coffee and desserts! Thank you all who came and brought canned goods for the Outreach pantry. We are scheduling the play, "Singing in the Rain," at the BayWay Theater in East Islip for Wednesday, June 20th. The show starts at 2 pm which means we will meet in the Genesis parking lot about 1:15 pm so we can carpool. The cost of the ticket is $23.00 for seniors. Hope you are able to make it. If you are interested in attending, please get in touch with JoAnn Saladino, 631-691-6085. Thank you.
