Respect for Life

In the time it takes to read this message, one baby will die from surgical abortion. One baby every twenty seconds, three per minute, 180 per hour, over 4000 per day die from abortion. That’s more deaths in one day than occurred at the WTC on 9/11/01. It is equivalent to the WTC loss every day of the year! This is the hidden war of terror being waged on the unborn in our country. Your prayers and support to end abortion are desperately needed and gratefully appreciated.

The Sept. issue of the Life News is available for your information. As you leave Mass, please take a copy home.

Eternal Rest grant unto them O Lord, and let perpetual

light shine upon them.

May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed

through the Mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

With an increase in demand for baptisms, we wanted to take the time to update you on the new sponsor requirements. Moving forward, all sponsors must meet ALL requirements listed below. If they do not meet the requirements, they will not be permitted to be a sponsor. If you have any questions about an upcoming baptism, or the sponsor requirements in general, please do not hesitate to call the Rectory at 631-264-0124.

Sponsor Requirements There may be one or two sponsors, but one is necessary. When there is one sponsor, he or she

must be a Catholic who meets all requirements. One sponsor must be male, and the other female. There may not be two godmothers, or two

godfathers. A Catholic sponsor must provide a signed “Sponsor Certificate” form, as well as proof of

Sacraments (baptism and confirmation). *Sponsors can request this from the parish in which they were baptized).

Requirements for the Catholic sponsor

At least 16 years old Baptized and confirmed Living an upright Catholic life If married, it must be a valid Catholic marriage. The Sponsor has to have been married validly

in the Catholic Church. No penalties (e.g., left the Church). A Catholic who has left the Catholic Church cannot be a

sponsor, and cannot be a “Christian witness” if they join another faith. Cannot be either parent. A baptized non-Catholic must accompany a Catholic sponsor They are a “Christian witness” and not a “sponsor” The other sponsor with a Catholic sponsor must be baptized. Jewish or Muslim or any other

non-baptized are not permitted. *Proof of baptism is required. The baptized non-Catholic must not be someone who has left the Church. There may be a proxy for the godparent, who meet the same requirements as for a sponsor. Names of sponsors and godparents may not be changed later.

SOME STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS: In the Second Reading, James is explaining the importance of works in our faith. He writes, “So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

On September 14, we celebrate the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross. The Triumph of the Cross provides an opportunity to look again at the perfect stewardship of Our Lord. He voluntarily laid aside all that He made for love of us! He died an ignominious death on a cross, surrendering his life in obedience to His Father. His total surrender is a blueprint for perfect stewardship.

LIVING STEWARDSHHIP: As Christians, we are called to serve others. How

can you be of service to someone – perhaps a neighbor, an elderly relative,

etc.?

Thank you for sharing your

gifts of treasure.

Lord Jesus, help us to hold lightly the gifts we’ve been given and

stand ready to use them and be used in the service of God. Then

we will know the triumph of the Cross in our own lives. Amen.
