SOMETHING TO THINKABOUT ...
“Each activity of daily life in which we stretch ourselves
on behalf of others is a prayer in action.”

FR. EARL DREAMS
NL Health authorities give us good news. As of Monday, August 24, St. Pius X Parish may welcome upward to 100 persons for Mass and other church based events. This means we’ve plenty of room to accommodate the increasing number of weekend Mass attending parishioners insofar as we maintain social distancing protocols. We have stopped Mass pre-registration. Calling or emailing our parish front office is not required for anyone wanting to attend Mass. While Mass registration at ‘the door’ is still required, it will be greatly simplified. One’s name is still required. Additional contact information including a phone number is required (for persons whose contact information has not yet been recorded).
Wearing face masks while attending all parish events is another protocol currently in focus. Quoting from a letter signed by our Archbishop this week we read: “Masks will need to be worn by everyone entering and moving around in our churches, although while in “physically distancing seating” masks may be removed (this also applies to the celebrant at the altar, the reader at the ambo and the cantor at the podium.)” Mask wearing remains a burden for some of us for a variety of reasons. Yet, let’s consider the greater good starting with health concerns and including our attendance at Mass among other members of our faith community. In truth, we need each other to ever-more deeply live our Catholic Christian faith!
Please continue to remain in touch with our parish front office staff. We are near to assist (you) with your questions and the everyday business of parish live.
Sincerely,Fr. Earl Smith, SJ

DE MELLO FOR KIDSOF ALL AGES
Filled With Light
It’s almost impossible to stay
inside on a sunny day. A clear blue
sky and lots of sunshine practically
beg you to come out and play. And
when people see the light of Jesus’
love shining through you, they’ll be
drawn to you, too. They’ll want to know where all
your happiness and joy come from. You can tell
them that when Jesus lives in your heart, every
day is full of sunshine.
When your heart is filled with joy and love,
You’ll shine with light from God above.
FAITH FORMATIONFOR FAMILIES
This is a reminder to all parents to try out the following two resources for the summer months.
Living Faith - www.rcsj.org This is a resource published by and for our Archdiocese. Now that there are no print copies available, it has gone completely digital. Now that the editors are not bound by outside deadlines, the materials, resources and ideas are more current and relevant to what is happening at home and around the world.
Sunday Connection www.loyolapress.com/catholic-resources/liturgi cal-year/sunday-connectionThis is a Jesuit resource for the family. Each edition begins with the Sunday Gospel reading, a reflection for adults, and age appropriate questions/activities for children.
SAINTS SPEAK
One who has come to the earthshaking realization of the true self can easily think that he or she has come to the realization of God. In other words one can mistake self-realization for God-realization. . . Never think that you have reached journey's end. Remember that the true self is opening out to the beyond, and that your journey goes on and on and on. It goes beyond the mystery of the self to the mystery of One Who knows no limits. Even in eternity we shall never arrive: we shall never exhaust the mystery of God.William Johnston, SJ 1925-2010, Being in Love, Irish Mystical Theologian

THE EXAMEN: A DAILY PRAYER
St. Ignatius Loyola's Examen is an opportunity for peaceful daily reflective prayer. It invites us to find the movement of God in all the people and events of our day. The Examen is simply a set of introspective prompts for you to follow or adapt to your own character and spirit.
This week you are invited to an Examen from the perspective of love in my life.

EMERGENCY FUND- CRISIS IN LEBANON
Crisis in LebanonDevelopment and Peace Emergency Fund The situation in Lebanon following August 4th
explosion has been described as “beyond imagination.” Thousands of people have been affected with over 159 people dying, over 6,000 injured, and over 300,000 people left homeless. The explosions have also worsened the country’s social, economic, and political crisis.
Development and Peace’s partner, Caritas Lebanon, is providing food, water, medical aid, and psychological and social support to those impacted by this crisis. Development and Peace and its trusted network of partners in the country are also assessing the long-term impacts and needs of this crisis.
Please join in Pope Francis’ invitation to pray for the victims, for their families, and for all of Lebanon. Please also consider joining the Pope in responding to this desperate cry for help by donating to the emergency relief effort at Development and Peace – Caritas Canada through the following link: https://bit.ly/2DRwfiv or by calling 1 888 664-3387. Both the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (D and P) and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) are collecting funds to assist with emergency aid for the people most in need. Until August 23rd the donations made through D and P will be matched by the Canadian Government.
Development and Peace is the official international development organization of the Catholic Church in Canada and the Canadian member of Caritas Internationalis.
