MESSAGE FROM THE BASILEUS SEPTEMBER 2014
Nothing can stop God’s Plan for your life. Isaiah 14:27
Dear Sorors,
As we come back together to conduct the
business of Alpha Kappa Alpha, let us be
resolved in our spirits that God has called US
together for such a time as this to do the
work He has called us to do. He continues
to bless each of us and the work that we are
doing. It is nothing short of amazing that
our chapter has won for two consecutive
Boule’s the sorority’s highest award for
programming. Not only have we been honored for outstanding service in our region but
internationally – competing with chapters who are double in our size and triple in
resource. I believe that it is because we have answered the call to notice those in need and
made authentic efforts to make those lives better is why our service is supreme. I will be
forever grateful that God gave me the opportunity to lead and serve in this chapter and I
thank you for supporting the programs and activities of the chapter in such a meaningful
way.
Although the awards and recognition are wonderful, Chi Eta Omega only really competes
with itself – to do more than what we’ve done before and to compete with poverty,
domestic violence, breast cancer, heart disease, asthma, and all of the societal ills that
negatively impact communities.
As we welcome our new Supreme Basileus, Soror Dorothy Buchanan, let’s get excited
about our new program targets! Launching New Dimensions of Service fits well with Chi
Eta Omega’s mission. We are always striving to meet new needs in different ways that are
more impactful. Chi Eta Omega will be participating in the Pre-Launch of these targets
this fall: Educational Enrichment, Family Strengthening, Environmental Ownership, and
Global Impact. Health and ASCEND will officially kick off in January 2015. Please
review the program brochure for more detail information about the new program and the
Impact Days. Please sign up for your new committee by Friday, September 12, 2014
The Pinky sign and Skee Wee call have been restored! Wait for it….for undergraduates only.
Let’s be super excited that our undergraduates can again legally enjoy these long
standing traditions of our sorority.
Many sorors have experienced illnesses and bereavement in their families. We know that
prayer works, so please let us know when you are experiencing any type of challenge in
your life so that we can lift up your situation.
Congratulations to Theta Mu for shining so bright at the Undergraduate Round Up!

BackPacks and More! Chi Eta Omega and the Pearls Foundation with
support from Delta Omega Omega Sorors stuffed Backpacks with school
supplies at Philander Smith College and delivered them to Morning Star
Baptist Church in North Little Rock, Rev. Robert Jenkins, Pastor. Backpacks
and school supplies were collected at the Summer Sizzle Day Party from the
public and donated to Our House. The service projects falls under the
sorority's Educational Enrichment Target: One Million BackPacks campaign

Think HBCU! Chi Eta Omega partnered with Delta Omega Omega Sorors with
support from Alpha Phi Alpha, Pi Lambda Chapter to assist freshmen at Arkansas
Baptist College move into their housing.
Because We Care. In partnership between The Black Women’s Agenda, Inc., AARP, and 19 collaborating partners, Chi Eta
Omega and Theta Mu Chapters supported the Because We Care program that facilitates discussions and implements
programs that promotes effective policies and meaningful change. Statistics indicate that one in five African Americans
provide care to a loved one. They also indicate that African-American women are providing the bulk of that care, often
juggling jobs and child-rearing with care giving, and receiving less in the way of governmental support. Soror Marquita Little
and Soror Phillis Anderson served on the planning committee that brought together expert panelists and many community
members to benefit from the information about resources available to assist with caring for loved ones. The program falls
under Alpha Kappa Alpha's Target II: Health Promotion with a focus on programs in three areas that disproportionately
affect African Americans: Alzheimer's Disease; stroke; and mental health and wellness.
