History

1. First Policy Document:

„The Declaration of Izmir“ (2006)

States that the EFSHT is committed to defining a profile for the competencies of a hand therapist.

2. Second Policy Document:

“EFSHT Hand Therapist Profile” (2007) (amended 2009)

Is a position and standards paper regarding the qualification of Hand Therapy as a speciality area of practice.

National HT QualificationHand Therapist BAHT, Hand Therapist SGHR,

Hand Therapist DAHTH, etc. etc.3. Towards a European HT qualification

Admission requirements:

1. Applicants must be qualified OT/ PTs2. Applicants are members of a HT society recognised by the EFSHT4. Where possible, applicants should first achieve national HT status

Portfolio1. 5 years clinical experience as qualified OT / PT (9000 hrs.)2. 2000 hrs. of hand therapy experience3. Evidence of „Continuous Professional Development“ (CPD)

„European Certified Hand Therapist (ECHT)“

1. Participation at courses, workshops etc. including written summary of learned content and its application in daily practice

2. Evidence of continuing education.

Publication / presentation / poster presentation / book review

Portfolio

Using the Profile as a basis for the development of the ECHT curriculum,

with which the various national programmes can be compared.

Specifically this involves:

1. Identifying areas of skills, knowledge and competencies contained in the Profile

2. Drawing up a list of basic criteria with which national programmes can be compared
