cre·ate (kre-at’)}CREATE Version 11 includes new 3D technology, new and improved plug-in objects, and new object libraries to help you create whatever you can imagine. Here’s just some of what you’ll find:
New Fit Walls To Roof Command A It only takes a single click to automatically fit walls to
complex roofs. The new Fit Walls to Roof command lets you
automatically adjust the tops and/or bottoms of walls to
any 3D shape, including roofs and NURBS surfaces.
Model to Floorplan AEasily turn 3D design concepts into 2D production drawings.
A new Model to Floorplan command allows you to freely
design in 3D, and then slice the model to automatically
generate 2D floorplans. No other CAD program makes it this
easy to create floorplans from your 3D models!
Easily create floorplans from your 3D massing models. Simply specify your floor heights and VectorWorks will automatically draw your floor plates on the correct layer complete with exterior walls
2
New Roof Framing Features ANew options give you greater control over how roofs
are framed. You can easily adjust the parameters for
rafters, beams, plates, purlins, ridges, trimmers, and hips
and valleys.
Roofi ng Enhancements V AEnhancements in the VectorWorks roofi ng technology al-
low you to now create complicated roofs from round walls
or even curved polys. Plus, new options allow you to defi ne
the perpendicular or vertical thickness of the roof when the
pitches differ.
Better Support for Gables, Dormers and Skylights V A We’ve also improved the way VectorWorks handles gables.
New options allow you to set the thickness of the gable
walls independently from the roof’s thickness.
In addition, you can more accurately map textures to
dormer walls. Dormer walls now correctly cut holes in the
roof and can be easily framed in ARCHITECT. And, you can
customize the thickness of dormer walls.
Lastly, we improved how roofs handle skylights. You now
have control over how skylights cut the roof, by inserting
them with a vertical cut, perpendicular cut, or splayed cut.
And, for easy “what if” scenarios, you can change the cuts
in the Object Info palette.
New roofi ng improvements in version 11 give you more control when creating and framing complex roofs
}Stair Improvements V ANow you can easily adjust where the stair breaks appear.
Easily Score Space Plans AA new Adjacency Score object makes determining the effi ciency
of your space plan even easier. See at a glance how effi cient
your plan is.
Belt- and Chain-length Calculators MLet VectorWorks MECHANICAL do the math for you. Simply
enter the center distance between two pulleys or sprockets, and
the belt or chain lengths are automatically calculated. Or, con-
versely, the length of the belt or chain can be used to calculate
the distance between the pulleys or sprockets.
Quick Keyways Calculation MNow there is a quick way to calculate and display the depth
control values for square and rectangular keyways. Simply
defi ne the shaft diameter and size of the key, and VectorWorks
MECHANICAL will automatically calculate the distance from
the bottom of a shaft to the bottom of a key, and the
distance from the bottom of a shaft to the top of a key.
You can also choose to place the calculated results on the
drawing for easy reference.
Speedy Beam and Support Analysis A L S MThe new Simple Beam Calculator allows you to instantly calcu-
late the maximum shear, bending moments, and defl ection of a
simply-loaded beam.
cre·ate (kre-at’)
MECHANICAL 11 offers a number of new calculators to assist you during your design process
4
New Ceiling Grid Object AA new Ceiling Grid tool makes it easy to create ceiling
grid tiles automatically and provides much more flexibility
than hatches. Simply draw the shape of the ceiling, and
the ceiling grid tiles will automatically fill the shape. After
the ceiling grid is drawn, you can interactively change the
origin, length, width, and angle of the ceiling tiles in the
Object Info palette.
Improved Piping Run Object ANow you can specify the radius of the bends in addition to
determining whether the turns use bends or elbows.
Spring Calculator MAfter designing your spring using the Spring Calculator,
you can place it in the drawing as either a 2D or 3D object.
New Woodruff Key Object MA new 2D and 3D woodruff key has been added to go
along with the existing key object.
New Ball Bearing Lock Nut Object MA new ball bearing lock nut object has been added
to MECHANICAL’s extensive suite of objects. The ball
bearing lock nut is a parametric object that is available
in both 2D and 3D.
}Improved Site Modeling A LWe’ve streamlined the DTM interface, eliminating dialog
boxes and reducing mouse clicks. In version 11, you can
organize DTM objects according to your own conventions.
DTM site modifiers can be applied to your site
data on a layer-by-layer basis. And, DTM symbols can
be easily renamed.
More Control Over Sloping Terrain LNew controls allow you to precisely set the slope of the
terrain between the control fence and a pad or a road, mak-
ing it easy to create “batter slopes” or gradual transitions
between the site and the site modifiers.
Updated Road Design Tools A LNow in addition to creating roads by station points, you
can simply sketch roads or paths onto the DTM. And for
easy editing, you can interactively reshape roadways using
the 3D Reshape tool.
Robust Site Sectioning A LImprovements to the Site Model Section command include
the ability to plot existing and proposed site sections. And
with LANDMARK, you can also show the elevation of station
points along an alignment. In addition, we’ve included new
formatting options so you can tweak the look of the plot.
cre·ate (kre-at’)
Woodruff Keys and Ball Bearing Lock Nuts are just some of the new objects you’ll find in version 11
You’ll find dramatic improvements to VectorWorks’ DTM including a new streamlined interface, new site section capabilities, and an easy to use road tool
}6Draw Property Lines with Ease A LWe’ve improved the interface for entering property lines
from a surveyor’s description. The new Property Line dialog
boxes are easier to understand and use. And, property line
angles can be entered as either Azimuth or Bearing degrees.
In addition, you can simply sketch out property lines
and, when finished, they will self-annotate. All annotations
will automatically update if you reshape the property line.
And, property lines are now supported by the DTM, so you
can show property boundaries on your 2D contour maps
and on your 3D terrain models.
New Hardscape Tool LA new Hardscape tool makes it easy to create patterned
walkways and patios. Simply define an area or path,
and then choose a pattern from the paving library or
create your own custom pattern. Options let you add
borders, colors, and even dynamically tag hardscape
constructions with their area and perimeter values,
so that the tag automatically updates as the hardscape
area is changed.
Improved Plant Styles LWe’ve add a new option in the Plant Styles command
that gives plants a transparent look, allowing you to show
walkways or other ground-level details below a plant’s
canopy. In addition, plants placed in groups or clusters
can be set to rotate randomly, giving them a looser, more
hand-drawn look.
}Place Plants Faster and Easier LA redesigned Place Plant tool makes placing plants quick
and easy. When placing plants, you can now easily edit a
plant’s size, spacing, and placement options. Plus, to assure
accurate placement, the tool previews plant locations so
you can see the plant before it’s placed. We’ve also added
the ability to duplicate plant records in the plant database,
to make editing and adding new plant records faster.
More Flexible Plant Grouping LNow it’s easy to edit plants that are drawn as groups or
clusters. A new Change Plant Grouping command allows
you to break up grouped plants, reorganize them and
regroup them.
New ARRI and Mole-Richardson Libraries SWe’ve teamed up with ARRI® and Mole-Richardson®
and added two new outstanding instrument libraries
to SPOTLIGHT 11.
Multi-circuit Instrument Tool SIt’s a cinch to add a multi-circuit instrument to your
design. Instead of manually inserting and aligning each
cell, you can add a multi-circuit in one step. Lighting
instruments can now be inserted as multi-circuit instru-
ments that act as single group, but retain their individual
parameters and labels.
cre·ate (kre-at’)

Export Dimmer and Channel Info SNow you can export dimmer and channel information di-
rectly from SPOTLIGHT. Based on your input, SPOTLIGHT can
create a USITT standard ASCII text patch that can be read
by other lighting programs as well as lighting consoles.
Inventory Improvements S Need to delete an item from inventory? Simply click the
Delete button in the new Inventory Control dialog box.
Easier Surface ManipulationA new Interpolated NURBS Surface command gives you an
additional way to work with surfaces. Interpolated surfaces
can be easier to edit, because the control points lie directly
on the surface, as opposed to being weighted.
Easily Extend NURBS Curves and Surfaces Now there are no limits on how you can extend your curves
and surfaces. The new command makes it easy to extend
NURBS curves and widen the edges of NURBS surfaces by
precise distances.
New Volumetric AnalysisA Volumetric Properties command automatically calculates
the volume, surface area, and center of mass of 3D objects.
You can even place a 3D locus at the center of mass, which
makes aligning 3D objects a snap. In addition, there’s an
option that lets you place the Volumetric Properties as a
text block, for easy documentation.

e
(pr -doos’)PRODUCENew technology and interface improve-ments allow faster drawing and modeling, with less effort and fewer mouse clicks. New features include:
Get Help QuicklyEven the best CAD designers get stuck every now and then.
With new context-sensitive help, you’ll never have to
stop and consult your manual again. Any question you
may have can be easily answered from within VectorWorks’
new help system. Loaded with detailed step-by-step
instructions and comprehensive graphics, VectorWorks 11’s
help system is a faster and more convenient way to get
answers to your questions.
Dynamic 3D Editing
New control points allow you to interactively “push and
pull” tapered extrudes to edit their height and taper angle.
More Powerful Solid Modeling EngineAn enhanced 3D modeling kernel results in faster and more
reliable solids modeling operations.
Smaller File SizesNew image compression technology significantly decreases
the file size of VectorWorks drawings that contain bitmap
images. Now, files that contain bitmaps will open more
quickly, save faster, take up less hard drive space, and are
generally easier to work with.
You can automatically calculate and display the volumetric information for any 3D solid

Faster Scrolling, Zooming, and PanningScroll, zoom, and pan in real-time without interrupting
your workfl ow. VectorWorks 11 supports OpenGL hardware
acceleration which will speed up the redraw process, allow-
ing you to navigate around your drawing in real time. Plus,
a new VectorCaching preference makes moving, copying,
pasting, and redraws much faster in fi les that contain com-
plex polylines and hatches.
Easily Set Hatch Pattern Line WeightsNow in addition to color, you can set the line weights of
all hatch levels with a click in the Hatch Editor dialog box.
A great time saver when working with drawings imported
from AutoCAD®.
Enhanced Object GroupingNow, when you create a group it is automatically set to the
currently active class.
Superior Splitting and TrimmingA new mode in the Split tool makes trimming objects fast
and uncomplicated. The new Trim Line mode allows you to
split objects with a line, and gesture to select which side of
the split you want to keep.
Enhanced Extend FunctionalityThe Connect/Combine tool can now extend multiple lines
with a single click. A great time saver!
pro·duce (pr -doos’)
e}All New Batch Printing A L S MNow you can print a complete set of drawings without any
interruptions. The new Batch Print command allows you to
easily defi ne a set of drawing sheets or saved views to print.
You can choose to print sheets in either black and white or
color. And, you can save Batch Print sets for easy retrieval.
Plus, because the Batch Print command is automatically
linked to the Issue Manager, you can easily print issued sets
of drawings with a single click.
Easily Set Up and Manage Your CAD Standards A LThe Create Standard Sheets command has been changed to
Create Standard Viewports and now works seamlessly with
VectorWorks’ new page layout capabilities. And, for added
fl exibility, you can easily control how objects in VectorWorks
are classed, making it easy to organize and manage your
CAD standards.
Faster Data EntryA subtle, yet powerful, change to the Data Display bar
makes it much faster and easier to draw with the keyboard.
Now, instead of using the Tab key to move between data
display fi elds and the Enter key to lock in data, the Tab key
does both. Simply tab into the Data Display bar to move
between fi elds and input your information. In addition, by
using the Shift and Tab keys, you can reverse through the
Data Display bar, making it simple to go back and correct
input errors.
You can set the line weight of all hatch levels at once. A handy feature when working with hatch patterns imported from other programs
You can now extend, as well as trim multiple lines with a single click
A new Batch Print feature allows you to print multiple drawing sheets at once. And, you can save drawing sets for future print jobs
12
Easier Object EditingWe’ve enhanced the capability of the Eyedropper tool
to make editing objects even easier. Now, in addition
to graphical attributes, the Eyedropper tool can easily
transfer plug-in object parameters, textures, text
settings, wall types, and record information from one
object to another. In addition, the Eyedropper tool now
works with objects already inserted into walls, as well
as supports Class Attributes.
Improved Drawing QualityDashed lines no longer start or end with a blank space.
Dashed lines now begin and end with a solid line, so that
the corners on dashed 2D objects will now draw correctly.
Additional Dashed Line StylesVersion 11 increases the number of dash styles available in
the Attributes palette and Classes dialog box from 24 to
32. Increasing the number of available dash styles makes
it easier to quickly find the exact one you need and brings
VectorWorks into compliance with the Japanese SCADEC/
SXF CAD standards.
Increased Angular Display PrecisionThe angular precision has increased from four place
values to eight place values, allowing you even higher
precision for arc angles. This is especially important
in countries such as Japan, where drawing standards
demand eight-place precision

e}More Flexible Dimension Classing OptionsA new document preference allows you to assign
dimensions to any active class, as opposed to forcing
them into a default dimension class. In addition, new
options allow users to create custom tools that
automatically draw dimensions in a user-defined
class, with user-defined attributes.
Easier Layer and Class ManagementNew Layer and Class Visibility dialog boxes provide an
easier way to access and manage your visibility settings.
New longer dialog boxes mean less scrolling when editing
complex visibility sets and a new preview option lets you
see exactly how your changes will affect the drawing
before you save them.
Enhanced Resource BrowserSave time by quickly creating resources directly from
the Resource Browser menu in one simple step. Plus,
a new “drag-and-drop” interface makes it a cinch to
place or apply resources like symbols, hatches, textures,
worksheets, and image fills.
Updated Windows® User Interface New interface updates include a scroll bar in the
Object Info palette, a more modern Mode bar, Data Display
bar, and View bar, as well as updated VectorWorks buttons.
Copy and Paste Read-only FieldsSome important information, like an object’s height,
width, area, and perimeter, display in fixed read-only fields
in the Object Information palette. New improvements to the
Object Information palette now let you copy this data and
paste it into the drawing for easy reference.
More Flexible Custom Selections A LThe Custom Selection 2 command provides new options that
give you more control over how VectorWorks searches the file.
Plus, you have the ability to select objects by using a standard
color picker and the ability to select objects within groups.
We’ve improved the way VectorWorks draws dashed lines
New Layer and Class Visibility dialog boxes make it easier to adjust how ob-jects are displayed
Interface improvement to the Resource Browser make creating resources quick and easy
14 }PRESENTVersion 11’s new presentation capabili-ties will help you better communicate and document your design ideas in both 2D and 3D. New capabilities include:
ViewportsVectorWorks 11 introduces new page layout features that
allow you to easily arrange multiple views of your design
on a single drawing sheet. Each view of the design, or
“viewport,” can have its own scale, orientation, projec-
tion, rendering option, as well as layer and class visibility
settings—making it easy to create drawing sheets that are
comprised of multiple views of your design.
Viewports provide a new and powerful way to help co-
ordinate your drawing sets. Viewports are created from,
and linked to “master” design layers. If a design layer is
changed, all the viewports in your drawing set are auto-
matically updated.
For added flexibility, viewports can be cropped by any
shape and have the ability to be annotated separately,
which makes creating detailed or enlarged plan views a
very simple and straight-forward process.
Lastly, VectorWorks 11’s new page layout capabilities
provide a way for VectorWorks to support paper space in
AutoCAD, which means cleaner translation between the
two programs.
e
pre·sent (pr -z nt’)
Viewports give you new ways to present your designs. Created from different views of your drawing or model, each view or “Viewport” can have its
own scale, rotation, projection, as well as rendering mode--and can be cropped into any shape
16
Faster Hidden Line RenderingRendering in VectorWorks Hidden Line modes can be up to
40% faster.
New Artistic Effects RHave you ever wanted to produce soft, hand-drawn, or
artistic renderings of your 3D designs? Now you can! A
new Artistic rendering mode in RenderWorks 11 allows
you to produce non-photorealistic effects that soften hard
lines and reproduce many hand-sketched styles, including
cartoon, color wash, contour, tapered lines, hatch, ink print,
lines and shadows, mosaic, oil painting, overlapping lines,
soft lines, and stipple.
Support for QuickTime VR RBoth the Macintosh® and Windows version of RenderWorks
11 support Apple’s QuickTime Virtual Reality technology.
QuickTime VR adds another dimension to your presentation
capabilities by allowing you to create realistic 3D pan-
oramas from your models that can be navigated without
any special hardware or software. And, because QTVR is
automatically web-enabled, you can easily post your QTVR
scenes to your website.
Support for Multiprocessors RSupport for multithreading means that raytraced render-
ings on dual-processor machines will be up to 40% faster.
}Over 370 New Textures and 18 New Shaders R We consulted with RenderWorks experts to help develop new
texture libraries, and the results are phenomenal! Inside, you’ll
find over 250 meticulously-prepared textures tweaked to provide
maximum realism. Plus, we’re introducing new monochromatic
textures that take on the color of the object they are applied
to—meaning that a single texture pattern can have infinite
variations. It’s never been easier to create stunning, high-quality,
photorealistic renderings.
In addition, we’ve included three new analysis shaders that render
models not for presentation purposes, but to show information
about the design. And, there are over 120 textures from Forbo®, the
world’s leader in Linoleum floor and wall coverings.
Hand-drawn Stipple Effects A L S MA new Stipple tool allows you to add texture or shading to your 2D
drawings. Controls include the range of density, fading from the
edge, random rotation of the stipple shape, and color. Once set, you
can save the stipple settings so they can be reused.
Easily Edit Textures RWe’ve dramatically streamlined the RenderWorks interface to make
it a breeze to manipulate textures and increase productivity. A
cleaner, more intelligent Mapping dialog box gives you much great-
er control over how textures map to 3D objects. And, the most com-
mon mapping and texture editing options can be quickly accessed
via a new Render tab on the Object Info palette. Changes made
through the Object Info palette are seen in real time. RenderWorks
11 a must-have for anyone creating 3D renderings!
e
pre·sent (pr -z nt’)
New artistic rendering modes give you new ways to present your design ideas
18
Dynamic Texture Mapping RA new Attribute Mapping tool allows you to interactively
position, re-size, and rotate textures directly on the surface
of 3D objects without having to go through the Mapping
dialog box.
Higher Quality OpenGL Rendering RBefore version 11 you could view shaders only if you
rendered in one of the RenderWorks rendering modes.
However, with the new OpenGL technology in version
11, you can see shaders and render transparent objects
like glass, crystal, and plastic directly in VectorWorks’
interactive OpenGL rendering mode. In addition,
RenderWorks users will enjoy the ability to display
Image Props in OpenGL renderings.
Version 10 OpenGL rendering
}Render Bitmap Tool ImprovementsThe Render Bitmap tool now supports OpenGL
as well as RenderWorks’ rendering modes: Fast
RenderWorks, Fast RenderWorks with Shadows,
Final Quality RenderWorks, Custom RenderWorks,
and Artistic RenderWorks. Plus, captured images
are always produced with true 32-bit color resolution,
and are automatically compressed to reduce fi le sizes.
New Notes TechnologyA completely redesigned Callout tool is more fl exible and
easier to use. A new curved leader option allows you to
add style to your callouts. And, new control points on the
leader, shoulder lines, and text blocks make re-shaping and
arranging callouts a snap. For even more fl exibility, you
choose whether the leader line draws to the top, center, or
bottom of the note block. Plus, we’ve added drawing modes
to give you more control over how callouts are drawn. You’ll
also fi nd a new symbol-based marker option that allows
you to create your own unique markers. All these settings
can all be applied to the current drawing or you can apply
them globally to all new documents! And, they can be easily
edited through the Object Info palette.
As if that wasn’t enough, in VectorWorks ARCHITECT,
LANDMARK, SPOTLIGHT, and MECHANICAL, the Callout tool
can now be linked to a new Notes Manager allowing you to
easily create, manage, and place saved notes.
Re-engineered Notes Manager A L S MWe dramatically simplifi ed VectorWorks’ Notes Manager.
With VectorWorks’ new notes databases you can now easily
create, store, and manage your notes right in VectorWorks.
A new General Notes tool makes it easy to place perfectly
formatted general notes from your General Notes database.
And, a new Callout tool allows you to precisely place Callouts
or Keynotes from your Callout Database.
Plus, you can automatically reconcile the notes that are in the
database with the notes in the drawing—assuring that the text
you place on the drawing is correct. This is great when work-
ing in a multi-user environment where teams of designers are
sharing the same notes database.
Improved Revision Cloud ToolNew modes give you more control over the revision cloud’s
shape and allow you to effortlessly create revision clouds
around complex selections.

New Text Editing Capabilities Save time by editing text blocks directly from within the
Object Info palette. You can change the font, point size,
style, alignment, and spacing for any selected text block
right in the Object Info palette. In addition, the Object Info
palette gives you immediate access to the X and Y location
fields for accurate placement of all text blocks.
Quickly Adjust DimensionsNow the text in linear dimension strings can be easily
moved along the dimension line without changing the
dimension’s offset. Holding down the Shift key while mov-
ing the text allows the dimension to be constrained so only
the text moves.
New Dimensioning ModeA new Angular Dimension mode allows you to create an
angular dimension between any three points.
