The thrilling potential of SixthSense technology

Pranav Minstry A Research Assistant and PhD candidate at the MIT Media Lab

SixthSense: •  Is a real life guided

user interface.

•  That merges both the digital world, and the real world.

•  Uses a single optical camera, projector and simple colored markers worn on the index and thumb fingers.

•  The controls are based on gestures used in real life.

Real World & Digital World   Real World: Our natural

environment that requires physical human interaction to navigate and function.

Digital World: A world of faster more seamless information processing, with information based in real time and the given information.

Technology & Gestures   The Technology: Pravnav

believes the key to future technological success lies in the synchronicity of the real world and digital world.

This is done by casual interaction with objects, such as writing a sticky note or reading a plane ticket. And additional information should be simply processed or added right there and then.

Gestures: Gestures are an important aspect to Pravnav because they function as a natural element of our daily lives, and serve as the best method for a more natural control scheme.

Concept Summary

Pranav believes that modern technology has been pulling us away from the real world and keeping us in a digital environment. Pranav thinks that the digital world should complement the real world, by providing real time based information and in-depth interaction with objects in our world.

Speech o  Pravnav’s doesn’t exude

charisma during his introduction, but rather pulls his audience in through visual “wow factor.”

o  Pravnav maintains the engagement of the audience by continually revealing new uses for the features of his concept, and how they themselves would use the SixthSense.

Dynamism  Rating:      3/5 You  could  truly  sense  his  passion  for  the  SixthSense.  However  he  maintained  a  casual  business  style  approach,  which  while  appropriate,  a  simple  grin  or  smile  could  really  uplift  the  audience  while  showing  greater  enthusiasm.

Garr Reynolds & Nancy Duarte Comparison

Pravnav’s slides and movies were a very clear, image-driven, based presentation where the dialogs complement the visual tour. Pravnav, however, did not use Garr Reynolds’ humorous style of speech to liven up the presentation, but remained homogenous.

Pravnav did make use of some hand gestures and interpersonal earlier development stories, and he maintains a structure close to Nancy Duarte’s ideal presentation structure.

What I learned   Enthusiasm and humor can really complement a

great presentation structure. The key to that presentation structure is in showing current world application followed by the contrast of your new idea at use. Maintaining this with, of course, an introduction and a conclusion with visual guides is the path to a greater presentation.

Pravnav Minstry & Sir Ken Robinson Both are driven to revolutionize their respective industries: one in education the other in technology. And both make use of classic skills, such as hand gestures, moving, etc. But Pravnav lacks Sir

Robinson’s humorous and charismatic approach.

Sir Ken Robinson Differs

His  vision  is  a  dire  need  for  education  reform  that  he  feels  should  happen  as  soon  as  possible.

TO  COMPARE:

Pravnav’s Vision:

His  idea  and  invention  are  not  yet  perfect  and  function  as  a  solution  for  the  future.

Advice:   Show enthusiastic

passion about the subject you are discussing.

If possible, use hand gestures, move around, try to feel less robotic.

Most importantly, make reference to subject matters you want to address first, then followed by the idea you feel is better. Try not to address it simultaneously, or the other way around.
