STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE
F R . A D R I A N S C O R N E R . . .
Its been a week of comings and goings at our parish as
we said goodbye to Fr. Chuck/Padre Carlos who is Santa
Barbara-bound and welcomed Fr. David as our new pas-
tor. It was heartening to see such a great turn out on
Friday last to bid farewell to Fr. Chuck who has been pas-
tor at San Luis Rey Parish these last three years. He con-tinued the Franciscan tradition of welcome and hospital-
ity and promoted the integration of our various cultures,
helping us to become the local Church, the people of
God, here in this blessed place. It is thanks to Chuck that
the Berlin Wall which divided the Mission from the Par-
ish is gone and that we are gradually becoming One Mis-
sion at the Mission. I can tell you from having worked
closely with him these last three years that he always
had your interest at heart and that he we was especially
concerned for the alienated and those who felt outside
the fold. It is thanks to Fr. Chuck that so many of our
parishioners were able to get married in the Church and
have their unions convalidated. His openness enabled
many to come home to the family, to the Church. He
also took great care of our parish school, Old Mission
Montessori, and gave it a deserved high profile in our
community. We wish Fr. Chuck much happiness in Santa
Barbara and assure him a warm welcome back anytime.
Fr. David is no stranger to us and has just made a short
trip from the Mission to the Parish to become our Pastor.
Fr. David was a pastor before at San Xavier del Bac in
Tucson, AZ, and later in Kazakhstan where be labored as
a missionary for almost nine years before being recalledto work at San Luis Rey Mission as director two years
ago. Fr. Chuck speaks Swedish, French and Spanish but
Fr. David speaks Russian. Im not sure how useful that
will be here at San Luis Rey but you never know! Fr.
David was born in Georgia but considers himself a Florid-
ian, having been raised there. He is a keen gardener and
keeps canaries and other birds as a hobby. Like Fr.
Chuck, he is also a good cook. On your behalf I wish Fr.
David a happy tenure at San Luis Rey Parish and pledge
our prayerful support as he begins his ministry as pastor.
Our Confirmation class is reaching the end of its prepa-
ration for the Sacrament in June and I would like to ask
your prayers for all these young men and women as they
begin life as adult Catholics in our community. They face
many pressures to abandon their faith or to water it
down so that it no longer challenges. Its not easy to
practice your Catholic faith as a young person in an ag-
gressively secular society that is often hostile. We need
to support these young Catholics, love them and let them
know that faith matters and that Christ is the guiding
light of truth in their lives. In May they will have their
retreat at the Mission we ask your prayers for those
guiding the retreat and for all the wonderful volunteer
teachers, youth ministers and peers who have accompa-
nied the Confirmation Class this year. We look forward
to a great celebration on Trinity Sunday, June 3rd when
Bishop Robert Brom will confer the Sacrament on his
final visit to San Luis Rey as Bishop of San Diego.
Have a wonderful week and please pray for our
young people.Fr. Adrian.
THANK YOUto all those who worked so hard to make
Fr. Chucks farewell party a success! THANK YOUto all
those who came to wish him good bye!

Who is a Catholic Christian Steward?
A Catholic Christian steward is a disciple of Jesus who cap-tures the vision of Jesus for reality. Catholic stewards sharein Jesus mission in their relationships, words and actions. Indoing so, Jesus invites us to build Gods Kingdom by:
Capturing the Vision!
Place our faith and trust in God. Recognize God as the source of everything we have.
Realize the gifts God has given each one of us.
Give thanks to God for our gifts.
Sharing the Mission!
Develop our gifts.
Use and share our gifts in love and justice with others.
In our families, in how we love and treat each other.
In our workplaces, in how we conduct our business.
In our communities, in how we work towards the
common good.
In our parish, in how we worship and participate in
parish ministries and activities. In our world, in how we tend to creation and all
Gods people.
Give thanks and return our gifts by building Gods King-
dom.
When each of us as faith-filled individuals join together incommunity, and share our gifts to the fullest: Then there is justice and peace,
Then there is reconciliation and healing,
Then there is respect for the dignity of all life, and thenthere is unity and diversity, for all Gods People!
Responsible Catholic stewards are everywhere! Who are
they? A caring parent, a loyal friend, a generous person, agood son or daughter, a loving spouse, a dedicated volun-teer, a devoted teacher, a faithful person involved in parishministry anyone who uses his or her gifts in gratitude toGod in service to others. Help Wanted for Mission Retreat Center:Hosts for Private Retreats
Our genuine Franciscan hospitality is at the heart of ourPrivate Retreat ministry and we need help from married cou-
ples who are able to volunteer to host our guests while theyare here. Hosting means staying at the center in a privateroom, having meals here, and in general making sure theretreatant has someone to go to in case of any need some-one has.
A Private Retreat is generally silent or with little talk-ing. The retreatant come to take time to pray, reflect andrenew their weary souls. Hosting them is truly an act ofFranciscan love and compassion.

maestros voluntarios maravillosos, jvenes ministros y
nuestros jvenes!
Padre Adrian Peelo, ofm
que all creci.

Cristiano Catlico? TU LO ERES!
