A movement of British rock-and-roll groups to the rest of the English speaking world.

Especially influential in the United States.

Mr. Acker Bilk

Began the British Invasion. Played Clarinet

His song “Stranger on the Shore” was the first song by a British artist to make it to

#1 on Billboard top 100.

The Tornadoes

“Telstar” by The Tornadoes was the first song by a British band to make it to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Beatles

The Beatles group was formed in 1962.

Members were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.

JFK assassination.

BeatlemaniaEveryone wanted a piece of The Beatles.

“…The Beatles’ performance on The Ed Sullivan Show, Beatlemania went viral. Radio stations played the band’s music nearly non-stop; teenaged fans sported ‘Beatle’ wigs, and bumper stickers across the country warned, ‘The Beatles Are Coming.’”

At first they were overshadowed by “Beatlemania.”

First appeared on the Ed sullivan show on October 25, 1964.
