Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordi

nary Time 10 Oct 2004

GREETING In the name of the Father, and of

the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

And also with you.

Penitential Rite My brothers and sisters, to prep

are ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries, let us call to mind our sins.

I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned through my own fault,

in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done, and

in what I have failed to do; and I ask blessed Mary, ever virgin, all the angels and saints,

and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.

Amen.

Opening PrayerLet us pray Lord, our help and guide, make

your love the foundation of our lives. May our love for you express itself in our eagerness to do good for others.

Amen

Liturgy of the WordFirst Reading (2 King 5:14-17)

So he went down and immersed himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God; his flesh was restored like the flesh of a young boy, and he was clean.

Then he returned to the man of God, he and all his company; he came and stood before him and said, ‘Now I know that there is no God in all the earth except in Israel; please accept a present from your servant.’ But he said, ‘As the Lord lives, whom I serve, I will accept nothing!’ He urged him to accept, but he

refused. Then Naaman said, ‘If not, please let two mule-loads of earth be given to your servant; for your servant will no longer offer burnt-offering or sacrifice to any god except the Lord.

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Responsorial PsalmR. The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power. O sing to the Lord a new song, f

or he has done marvel lous things. His right hand and his holly arm have brought him victory.

R. The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power. The Lord has made know his victory; he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations. He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel.

R. The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power. All the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God. Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth break forth into joyous song and sing praises.

Second Reading(2 Timothy 2:8-13)

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David—that is my gospel, for which I suffer hardship, even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained. Therefore I

endure everything for the sake of the elect, so that they may also obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. The saying is sure: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; If we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also

deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL The Lord be with you.And also with you.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke.Glory to you Lord.

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, ‘Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!’ When he saw them, he said to them, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priests.’ And as

they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus asked, ‘Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to

return and give praise to God except this foreigner?’ Then he said to him, ‘Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.’

The gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Homily

Profession of Faith We believe in One God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth of all that is seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father, Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven;

by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died and was buried. On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures;

He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the Right Hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayer of the Faithful R. Lord, hear our prayer.

For God’s people everywhere, called to be thankful, we pray to the Lord: R. Lord, hear our prayer.

For our leaders, elected to inspire by their actions, we pray to the Lord: R. Lord, hear our prayer.

For those struggling to be grateful in times of trial, we pray to the Lord: R. Lord, hear our prayer.

For ourselves, expressing our thankfulness in this eucharist, we pray to the Lord:

R. Lord, hear our prayer.

PREFACE

Father, all-powerful and ever- living God, we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks through Jesus Christ our Lord. Through his cross and resurrection he freed us from sin and death and called us to the

glory that has made us a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people set apart. Everywhere we proclaim your mighty works, for you have called us out of darkness into your own wonderful light. And so, with all the choirs of angles in heaven,we proclaim your glory and join in their unending hymn of praise:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Eucharistic Prayer II Invocation of the Holy Spirit Lord, you are holy indeed, the

fountain of all holiness. Let your Spirit come upon these gifts to make them holy, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

The Lord’ Supper Before he was given up to death, a death he freely accepted, he took bread and gave you thanks. He broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said:

“Take this, all of you, and eat it: this is my body which will be given up for you.”

When supper was ended, he took the cup. Again he gave you thanks and praise, gave the cup to his disciples, and said:

“Take this, all of you, and drink from it, this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant. It will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven. Do this in memory of me.”

Let us proclaim the mystery of faith:

When we eat this bread,When we drink this cup,We proclaim your gloryUntil you come again.

In memory of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Father, this life-giving bread, this saving cup. We thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. May all of us who share in the body and blood of Christ be brought together in unity by the Holy Spirit.

For the Church Lord, remember your Church throughout the world; make us grow in love, together with our pope - John Paul II. Our bishop - Joseph Zen, John

Tong, and all the clergy.

For the dead

Remember our brothers and sisters who have gone to their rest in the hope of rising again; bring them and all the departed into the light of your presence.

In communion with the saints Have mercy on us all; make us worthy to share eternal life with Mary, the virgin Mother of God with the apostles, and with all the saints who have done your will throughout the ages. May we praise you in union with them, and give you glory through your Son, Jesus Christ.

In praise of God

Through him, with him, in him,in the unity of the Holy Spiritall glory and honor is yoursalmighty Fatherfor ever and ever.Amen
