BPSA - What We Do

• Monitor conditions affecting the bulk power system • Operational • Weather • Other (droughts, space weather, cyber and physical

security, wildfires, fuel supply, labor issues, industry trends, policy)

• Identify and communicate possible near term threats to the continued reliable operation of the BPS

• During crisis events, facilitate communications • Common Operational Picture with the Regions and RCs • Inform government agencies • Work with ES-ISAC to support their government sector

coordination

• Analysis of a high volume of disparate and sometimes conflicting information

• Human SMEs provide the “so what?” from the tools’ data • Inherently an art and a science

• Learn something from every report and every event to build organizational memory

• PowerWorld Retriever-based Visualization Client

• eDNA Trending Client

• >200kV transmission facilities, >500 MW generators

• MW, MVAR, bus voltages (maintains 7-day history)

• ICCP data streams from Reliability Coordinators

• Not a conventional power system model

• No individual substation topologies

• No state estimation or contingency analysis capability
