    RECAP: LF Stefen Romero drove in 3 runs, including a 2-run home run in the 7th inning asTacoma defeated Tucson 6-4 on Sunday. Romero (3x5, HR, 3 RBI) led the team with 3 hits, whileCFAbraham Almonte (2x5, 3B, RBI), 1B Rich Poythress (2x4, R, BB), C Jesus Sucre (2x4, R,2B, RBI) and SS Carlos Triunfel (2x4, 2 R, RBI) each recorded 2 of the Rainiers 12 hits. StarterTaijuan Walker(6.0,6,1,1,2,9,WP) recorded his 5th win of the season, allowing 1 run on 6 hits andstriking out 9 in 6.0 innings.     REHAB ASSIGNMENT: OF Franklin Gutierrez began his 4th rehabilitation assignment withTacoma on Aug. 11. Gutierrez had a day off yesterday. Overall he is batting .211 (41x194) with 27runs scored, 16 doubles, 3 home runs, 25 RBI, 15 walks and 4 stolen bases in 47 games with AAATacoma. Gutierrez was placed on the 15-day DL on J une 25 with a strained right hamstring. Heappeared in 2 games (J une 22-23) after being activated from the disabled list on J une 22. Gutierrezwas on the disabled list from April 23-J une 21 with the same injury (right hamstring strain).

    Gutierrez was batting .267 (15x60) with 8 runs scored, 4 doubles, 5 home runs (3 leadoff HR) and11 RBI in 18 games (15 GS in CF) this season for Seattle. This is the 6th trip to the DL for Gutierrezsince the start of the 2011 season.

    OF NOTE: OFAbraham Almonte has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games, batting .350 (14x40)with 4 runs scored, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 10 RBI, 8 walks and 3 stolen bases. He has

    also hit safely in 18 of 24 games in August, while reaching base safely in 23 games. During thisstretch he is batting .319 (29x91) with 14 runs scored, 5 doubles, 2 triples, 4 home runs, 14 RBI, 22walks and 4 stolen bases. After walking 23 times in his first 65 games with Tacoma, Almonte haswalked 25 in his last 25 games, including 6 multi-walk games. RHP Taijuan Walkerstruck out 9batters in his last start on Aug. 25 at Tucson, increasing his season strikeout total to 160. He iscurrently T2nd amongst all Minor League players in strikeouts, trailing only Tulsas Daniel Winkler(COL). Walker leads all Mariners farmhands in strikeouts and is the first pitcher to strikeout at least160 in a single season since RHP Francisco Cruceta (185) and LHP J ustin Thomas (162) in 2006.Walkertossed 14.0 scoreless innings over his first 3 AAA starts, before allowing a solo home run inthe 5th inning on J uly 7 at Salt Lake. Overall he is 5-3 with a 3.61 ERA (23 ER, 57.1 IP) in 11 startswith Tacoma. Since joining Tacoma on August 17 from AA J ackson, RH Forrest Snow is 2-0 in 5.0scoreless innings. He has limited opponents during this stretch to only 2 hits, while walking 1 andstriking out 6.

    WALKER NAMED PCL PITCHER OF THE WEEK: RHP Taijuan Walkerwas named the PacificCoast League Pitcher of the Week for August 19-25. Walker earned wins in each of his two startsover that stretch, limiting opponents to one run and striking out a combined 15 batters through 11.0innings of work. He held Colorado Springs scoreless on three hits and fanned six on August 20,and in his next outing, restricted Tucson to one run on six hits and struck out nine in a start on theroad on August 25. A graduate of Yucaipa (CA) High School, Walker was selected by the SeattleMariners as the 43rd overall pick in the supplemental first round of the 2010 draft. He entered hisfourth professional season ranked by Baseball Prospectus as the No. 1 prospect in the Marinersfarm system, and was listed by Baseball America as the organizations No. 2 farmhand. Walker is

    now the fifth different Rainiers player to garner a weekly league award and the fourth to nab Pitcherof the Week honors. Pitchers Andrew Carraway (April 22-29), J eremy Bonderman (April 29-May6)and J ames Paxton (J une 17-23), and infielder Nick Franklin (April 22-29) were each recognized forproducing outstanding weeks earlier this season.

    RECAP: The Generals came-from-behind to defeat Chattanooga with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning 4-3 on Sunday. The gameended in the bottom of the 9th on a throwing error by Lookouts pitcher Steve Smith that scored 2B Chris Taylorafter SS Gabriel Noreigwas called out trying to score on a wild pitch by Smith. Taylor(3x5, R, SB) led the team with 3 hits, while Noriega (2x5, R, 2B, 2 RBI) and

    LF Jack Marder(2x3, BB) each recorded 2 of the Generals 10 hits. StarterAnt hony Fernandez (6.0,7,3,3,1,6,HR) allowed 3 runs on 7hits over 6.0 innings, but did not figure into the decision. LH Kyle Hunter(2.1,0,0,0,1,1) and RH Carson Smith (0.2,0,0,0,0,1) combined thold the Lookouts scoreless over the final 2.0 innings.     The VSL Mariners defeated the VSL Cubs 11-8 in 12 innings yesterday to win the 2013 VSL Championship 2-0. It was the VSL Marine2nd VSL Championship (also 2002). Team finished runner-up in the Championship game in 2012, 2010, 2008 and 2005.

    INF/OF Yordi Calderon hit .343 (82x239) with 68 runs scored, 20 doubles, 3 triples, 11 home runs and 42 RBI in 68 games. He led VSL
