MUSICAL NOTES Choir students will be performing at the Live Nativity hosted by St. Anthony’s in Morris. We will perform on Friday, December 12, immediately following the blessing at 5:00. HOLIDAY LOLLIPOPS ONE DAY ONLY SALE Friday, December 12th. Lollipops are in the shape of Santa, trees, and snowmen. Fifty cents a pop and the flavor variety has expanded. Proceeds go toward the Toy Drive. Lots and lots of toys need batteries and all stuffed items will be sanitized prior to being distributed.

WEEK OF DECEMBER 15TH Student Council will be playing Christmas music in the halls prior to announcements. Members will also be doing announcements and Morning Prayer. Monday, December 15th is Ugly Sweater or Sweatshirt Day. Jeans permitted. "Ugly" winners will be chosen from each homeroom and win a prize.

Tuesday, December 16th- Grades 4-8 all movie popcorn snack pack forms MUST be turned in. Students with peanut allergies are more than welcome to bring in their own popcorn.

Friday, December 19th- All School Dress Down Day Preschool – 3rd Grade have their individual class schedules. Grades 4-8, beginning at 9:00 we will walk to the Gibson Theater. Night At the Museum Secret of the Tomb will begin playing at 9:30 and we will be out by 11:30. The Dodge Ball Tournament for grades 6 - 8 will begin at 2:00 in the Activity Center. SCHOOL SPIRITWEAR "The school spirit wear online shop will be closed for upgrades on Saturday Dec. 20th. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please remember that all spirit wear ordered in one month is printed at the same time and delivered to the school by the 15th of the following month. This is how we get the great prices for our spirit wear."

SLS VIOLIN STUDIO RECITAL Please join us in celebrating all the hard work the violin students of Miss. Caitlin Stokes have done this semester! From beginners to advanced students, this will be an hour of beautiful music. We would also love to thank Pat Hicks for accompanying the students on piano. Hope to see you here! When: Tuesday, December 16th Where: St. Louis Catholic Church Time: 4:30-5:30 PTO CORNER Please check those backpacks because the PTO has sent home a beautiful Christmas ornament with each child this week. This is our way of saying “Thank you” and “Merry Christmas” to all the wonderful families in our school! Are you having trouble deciding what to get those wonderful teachers for Christmas? We've made it easy for you! Just go look on the bulletin board next to the Kindergarten room to see their wish list! You may also make a cash contribution to distribute among your teachers of choice in Batesville Bucks. Happy shopping! Here is how it works: OPTION 1 (The Tags) 1. The PTO asks each teacher to list some personal and school items that they would like to get. Teachers fill out a wish list. 2. PTO prints the items on little cards and puts them on the bulletin board outside the Kindergarten rooms. 3. Parents can stop by, look over the tags and see if they would like to get something for that teacher. If you choose to buy something, remove the tag from the board. The tags will be up until Christmas break. OPTION 2 (You want to buy for many teachers) This option is popular for those families that wish to honor several teachers. Using the attached form, select the teachers you would like to honor, and send it back to the office with any amount. This amount will be divided among the teachers that you select. Please make checks payable to "Batesville Chamber of Commerce", as the teachers will receive Batesville Bucks. (This is a change we made several years ago to greatly simplify the process!) Of course, this program is optional. It is a great way to maximize your gift giving dollars. The teachers get exactly what they want and you save time!! It's a win win! Any questions about the program please call Amy Tonges at 933-0988 or 212-6702. Thanks for participating in this year's giving tree! The SLS Giving Tree Committee

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR NEEDED FOR SUPER SUNDAY BINGO! We are looking for one or two people willing to coordinate the volunteers for Super Sunday Bingo. This involves putting out the worker sign-up sheet, posting announcements in the SLS Update and plugging in the names for the worker list. This is a well-oiled process that comes with the documents needed and the guidance from past coordinators…Lori Nobbe, Natalie Wanstrath and Julie Cox. The best part of this volunteer position is that it allows you to get acquainted with all of the St. Louis School families! The next Super Sunday Bingo will be held March 8, 2015. Contact Natalie Wanstrath: 932-4822 or [email protected] for more information. BATESVILLE K OF C SCHOLARSHIP Any 8th grade student planning to attend a Catholic High School may apply for a scholarship through the K of C. There are 4 $1000 scholarships available for graduating 8th graders. Scholarship forms are available in the school office and must be postmarked by March 28, 2015. SPORTS The SLS 5th Grade Cardinals basketball team was crowned 5th Grade SLS Tournament Champions Saturday, December 6. The Cardinals defeated St. Lawrence in the opener 29-19. The Cardinals then defeated Milan Elementary 27-15 in the Championship Game. Thomas Raver led the team in scoring throughout the tournament and Abe Streator led the team in rebounds. Cayden Pohlman, Hunter Laudick, and Luke Wilson led a spirited defensive effort in helping the Cardinals win the championship. The 5th Grade SLS Basketball Cardinals defeated St. Paul Monday, December 8 by the score 42-15. Abe Streator and Hunter Laudick led the team in scoring while Kyle Salatin played an "all-around" good game. The SLS 5th grade defeated St. Paul Wednesday, December 10 by the score 40-3. All Cardinals players entered the scoring column. The SLS 5th grade Cardinals are in action again tonight playing St. Michaels at the Activity Center. The St. Louis 6th grade boys basketball team played on Saturday in their annual St. Louis tournament and came away as the tourney champs by beating Milan in the championship game. The Cardinals played great defense in the first half holding Milan to only 6 points and went in at half by the score of 18-6. Milan fought back in the second half but came up short as St. Louis won by the score of 30-22. Earlier in the day, the Cardinals won their first game against

St. Lawrence by the score of 27-10 putting them in the championship game. Milan won their first game by defeating St. Michael in a close game. The Cardinals played great defense in both games along with a balanced scoring attack. The St. Louis 6th grade boys basketball team had their undefeated record broken last night by the SEI Tigers. The game was hard fought by both teams. St Louis led at half 18-15 but the Tigers came back in the second half to tie the game at 29 and with less 2 minutes to go in the game forced a turnover and turned it in to two points to take the lead. St. Louis was unable to score on their next possession and the Tigers made key free throws down the stretch to win the game by the score of 34-29. The Tigers were led by Elisha Moore 20 points. The Cardinals were led defensively by Sam Voegele and Riley Schebler and offensively were led by Andrew Oesterling, Max Giesting, Wil Freeland, Kurt Siefert, Sam Voegele and Michael Wanstrath. St. Louis plays St. Michael on Thursday with the 5th starting at 6:00 and the 6th at 7:00. The St. Louis 7th grade boys basketball team lost to Batesville Middle School Tuesday night by a final score of 38 to 20. A slow start and turnovers plagued the Cardinals in the first half. Evan Vogelsang led St. Louis in scoring with 9 points all coming from beyond the arc. Adam Cox, Johnathan Deal & Charlie Dice added 3 ponts each. Zach Harmeyer added a bucket with a heads up pass from Aaron Weber. The St. Louis 7th grade boys basketball team traveled to Columbus Indiana Wednesday night to battle St. Bartholomew and fell by a final score of 32 to 19. Adam Cox led the Cardinals in scoring with 10 points including a couple of 3's. Joshua Myers added 4 points while Charlie Dice chipped in 3 points. Aaron Weber and Johnathan Deal rounded out the scoring each contributing a free throw. The 8th grade SLS Basketball Cardinals lost to Batesville Middle School Tuesday, December 9 by the score 42-35. The Cardinals led most of the game. Batesville Middle School's height and depth were too much to overcome in the fourth quarter as Batesville Middle School won a most competitive game. Robert Raver was the Cardinals and game's leading scorer.

The 8th grade SLS Basketball Cardinals traveled to Columbus Wednesday, December 10 and defeated St. Bartholomew 50-16. Nathan Eckstein led the Cardinals in scoring. All Cardinals players scored with George Ritter and Alex Geers coming off the bench and having good games. The SLS Cardinals play St. Lawrence next Monday at the Activity Center.
