Ravines of Islington offers its residents the chance to enjoy two very different worlds. The relaxing realm of nature is right outside every back door and the bustling convenience of city living is minutes from the front door.
Many major highways are a short drive away. Residents can connect quickly to Hwy. 407, Hwy. 427, and Hwy. 400. These highways take you swiftly to Hwy. 401 and Pearson International Airport.
The neighbourhood also has many big box stores and shopping centres, including the famous Vaughan Mills shopping centre with 240 stores and services.
There are two libraries and the Al Palladini Community Centre just a few kilometres away. Residents may also enjoy the nearby golf clubs, including The National Golf Club of Canada, and The Country Club.
The community sits inside the area known as Woodbridge. The old downtown strip on Woodbridge Avenue is an established and historic neighbourhood with many restaurants and shops. Woodbridge was named for the
wooden bridge that once crossed the Humber River as an entry point into what once was a small town.
The historic overpass was located on Langstaff Rd. near Islington Ave. A replica bridge, circa 1930, made out of concrete remains close to the original location and is accessible from Boyd Park.
Today, the bridge is nothing more than a symbol of the old town’s link to the big city of Toronto. Woodbridge, located in the City of Vaughan is already well serviced by the VIVA bus transit line; however, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) will soon be extending the Spadina Subway line to reach the border of Vaughan. The planned terminal at Hwy. 7 and Jane St. will provide a much sought after link between Vaughan and downtown Toronto. Vaughan’s new subway station will be located in the future Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) development area, which will be a commercial and cultural focal point for the city and is expected to create at least 11,500 new jobs, as well as act as a transportation hub connecting various local transportation services.
