Beginning in August on each Thursday night at
7:00 p.m. during Adoration in the church, we will
have a special time of prayer and reflection. Here
is the plan:
1st Thursday of the month: an Evening of
Recollection for Men*
2nd Thursday of the month: an Evening of
Recollection for Women*
3rd Thursday of the month: Praise and
Worship Holy Hour with Confessions
4th (and 5th) Thursday of the month:
Examination of Conscience and
Confessions
*The Men's and Women's Evenings of Recollection
will consist of a Meditation (a spiritual talk, usually
on a virtue or other aspect of the interior life),
Examination of Conscience, and Confession
I am calling these evenings "Luminous Thursdays",
linking them to the Luminous Mysteries of the
Rosary which are usually said on Thursdays.
The Baptism of the Lord: we are Children of
God by adoption in Baptism
The Wedding Feast at Cana: the first sign or
miracle of Jesus
The Proclamation of the Kingdom: Repent
and believe the Gospel!
The Transfiguration: seeing Jesus in His
Glory
The Institution of the Holy Eucharist: Jesus
really present before us
I hope that this will be a program for regular
spiritual growth for many in the parish!

The Church, our Mother
There are many images of the Church. The most beautiful
and consoling image of the Church is the Church as our
loving Mother. This image, of course, makes us think of
the Blessed Mother. Scripture and the Tradition of the
Church emphasize the connection between Mary and the
Church. The Second Vatican Council teaches that Mary is
the Image of the Church.

When bad things happen in the Church, we tend to think of the Church
as an institution. It is easy to be upset with an institution. Of course, the
Church has the elements of a human institution for carrying out its work
in this world. But the institutional aspects of the Church are not the
essence of the Church. They are human and will pass away. Because
they are human, theinstitutional aspects of the Church are also flawed.

The Church as Mother is essential and eternal. Like a mother, the
Church gives life to her children in the waters of Baptism. Like a mother,
the Church feeds her children in the Holy Eucharist. Like a mother, the
Church comforts and heals her children in Confession and Anointing.
Like a mother, the Church waits for and listens to her children in prayer.
If you have trouble thinking of the Church in this way, then think of the
Blessed Virgin instead. They are the same.

As I have been praying the rosary in the past months, I have been
drawn especially to the Fourth Glorious Mystery: the Assumption of
Mary. To me, it is the mostbeautifulMystery of the Rosary not the
most important, but the most beautiful. In the Assumption, I see Mary as
the "fairest honor of our race" the most beautiful human being ever! In
this Mystery, she is going home to Heaven, and there she will be Queen.
Beauty transforms us.

There are inexcusable things that happen in the Church because of
human sinfulness. We are learning of such things in our parish and in
our diocese now. These areuglythings. There is no excuse for them,
and we must care for all who suffer from these abuses. But the Church
is not at home in this sinful world. The Church is our Mother, leading us
to Heaven. She will lead us there with the supernatural gifts that God
has entrusted to her for us. With courage and charity, let us follow her.
Our Mother will comfort us on the way.

Fielmente,

¡SAN MARTÍN DE PORRES, RUEGA
POR NOSOTROS!
En estos días cuando vemos muchas
estatuas siendo derribadas, pongamos
una: ¡una estatua de San Martín de
Porres! Hace tiempo que tengo en
mente que una estatua de San Martín
de Porres sería muy apropiada para
nuestra Iglesia de Santa Rosa de
Lima. Vea, Santa Rosa y San Martín
eran contemporáneos en Lima y
ambos eran miembros de la Orden
Dominicana.
Una
estatua de San Martín agregaría otro
aspecto de la universalidad de la
Iglesia a las imágenes que tenemos en
nuestra parroquia.

Estoy en consulta con un escultor que
ha realizado obras increíbles para
parroquias en nuestra diócesis. Pronto
podré transmitir su visión de la estatua.
¡Avíseme si desea ayudar con este
proyecto!

SAINT ROSE FALL SPORTS PROGRAM: REGISTRATION IS OPEN
We have opened the registration for our 2020 Fall Sports programs, available to children
entering kindergarten through 8th grade this upcoming school year. These are tentative
plans subject to change or cancellation. This is open to all youth involved in both the PSR
program and attending Saint Rose School. Our first priority is the safety of our youth, so we
will follow the guidelines provided to us by local government and/or diocesan/parish
authorities. Each sport has its own age and gender requirements. Go to https://
school.saintrose.org/fall-registration to register or learn more. If you have a boy between entering
4-8 grades who is interested in playing baseball, please contact Bill Wright, Saint Rose Athletic
Director at [email protected].
In an effort to properly plan for having our Fall sports, I encourage you to register your child as
early as possible. This allows us to identify the number of athletes to help with the creation of
teams, ordering equipment, and building of a communication plan to share guidelines and
changes to parents regarding day camps, practices, and games. I am committed to sharing with
you our plans for safeguarding our athletes from the Covid-19 virus once we have more details
and direction from the diocese. Plus, I will respect your decision if you choose to withdraw your
child from any sports program later this summer.
