BEFORE GOING TO THE THEATRE

THE STORY1. Read the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde:

Dr. Henry Jekyll is a famous and prominent scientist. He is also a very nice and friendly person and, consequently, he has got a lot of friends. However, Dr. Jekyll has got an obsession: he thinks that everybody has two different sides, a good one and an evil one, and he gets the idea of trying to separate those two sides.

Suddenly, a Mr. Edward Hyde appears. He is a very strong and dangerous man and he claims to be Dr. Jekyll’s closest friend. Jekyll’s other friends shun and fear Mr. Hyde, and they even see some of the crimes he commits, but Jekyll defends Hyde and, in his will, he leaves all his possessions to Mr. Hyde.

At the end Jekyll’s friends discover an awful truth: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are one and the same person. Jekyll has found a formula to separate the good and the evil sides of a human being, with Jekyll as the good side and Hyde as the evil one.

But these two sides fight to control the other. Who will win? The good side or the evil one?
