This is my final Fenton Focus Newsletter Article. I am amazed how fast this two- year term has gone by. I wanted to take a moment and extend a sincere ―Thank You‖ to the Fenton Chamber Membership for allowing me the opportunity to serve as President of the Chamber Board of Directors. The experience has been very rewarding both personally and professionally. There is no doubt that your Fenton Chamber organization has much positive energy. This energy comes from all of the individual talent that the Chamber has within its membership. It can be felt by the efforts of our volunteers, it can be seen in the eyes of our high school senior scholarship award recipients, it can be seen by our Business Fair attendees; the social energy is present at our Annual Dinner Auction or Golf Tournament, even at a Fridays in Fenton event or on a street corner during Old Newsboys Day. Let me recap just a few highlights from the past couple of years. Our Chamber Office moved to a new location onto the Maritz Campus which has proved to be very beneficial to the Chamber staff and to the Fenton community. Our very own Executive Director, Jeannie Braun, was awarded as one of the ―100 Professionals to Know to Succeed‖ by Small Business Monthly. We invested in Chamber Nation software, the engine driving our website and membership benefits. This vision and growth will continue. Your current Board of Directors is truly dynamic, visionary and has the talent and professionalism to continue our Chamber mission. It is a real honor and privilege to pass the President role to Mr. Greg Bresler. He shares the personal energy and passion that will serve our membership well. With Sincere Gratitude To Our Membership, All My Best, Dale E. Roethemeyer President—Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce Financial Advisor—Edward Jones

If you have asked the question - how can I improve my chances of having my business loan request approved? Here are a few strategies to help swing the request in your favor.

When reviewing loan applications, bankers usually look for answers to two questions: Will your business likely be around for the term of the loan; and, will it generate enough cash to pay off the debt? Make sure your application includes a business plan, focused on your current performance. Be realistic about future performance and be prepared to defend your forecasts.

Before you ask for a loan, make sure you know the true value of your collateral. Your real estate holdings may not be worth what they once were. Equipment value also depreciates. If this is the case, it may be necessary to include your personal residence or other real estate to shore up your collateral.

Be sure to monitor your credit scores. In small business, there is a strong connection between personal and business finances. Your personal financials and assets, after all, are usually the business‘ financials and assets, too. Your banker will consider both when making a loan decision.

Lastly, ask for your banker‘s advice. You‘re more likely to hear ―yes‖ if you‘ve taken the time to build trust with the bank. Remember, bankers want their clients to succeed. The more they know about you, the better they can support you in your efforts.

Congratulations on your Ribbon Cutting!

Sherman Auto Sales, Inc. celebrated the Grand Opening of its new location in Fenton at 519B Rudder Road (behind JML Audio or St. Louis) with a Ribbon Cutting celebration, accompanied by staff and members of the Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce. This 66-year old company has been family owned and operated since its conception in 1946. Previously located in the City of St. Louis, owner Mark Sherman saw a unique opportunity to move to the Fenton area where there would be more room to show off his vintage treasures and to increase visibility within the community. One step into this facility brings back memories of a bygone era. Practically everything in the showroom is priced to sell so please stop by today and see what kind of trinkets and treasures Sherman Auto Sales has to offer! Don‘t miss out on all that Sherman Auto Sales has brought to the Fenton community. Store hours are Mon. thru Wed. & Fri. 10am-6pm and Sat. 10am-5pm. For more information, contact owner Mark Sherman at 636-326-1616 or visit the company website at www.shermanautosalesinc.com.

Rockwood Students Honor Veterans

On November 9th, Rockwood Summit High School hosted its 6th Annual Veterans Day Luncheon, presented by the DECA students. It was truly a sight to be seen as students stood, clapping out of appreciation and respect for the honored veterans as they filed into the building. Over 78 veterans were recognized at the event. The guest speaker in attendance was Joseph J. Frank, a native of Sunset Hills, who received many decorations during his time in the service. The program concluded with a gathering for lunch where Rockwood Summit students were able to meet and greet those veterans at the event. What an incredible program to honor those who both served and sacrificed so much for our freedom today.
