The Old TeSTamenT PaSSOveR com-memorated the children o Israels deliverancerom the hand o Pharaohs tyranny in Egypt. In the Bible, Egypt is a type, or symbol, o sin.The Israelites deliverance required the bloodo a lamb. Today when we take Communion,we remember our spiritual deliverance romthe bondage o sin through the blood o theLord Jesus Christ. Communion could becalled a New Testament Passover.

Jesus instituted this so-called New Testament Passover

when He shared His last meal with His disciples. When Hewas crucied, Jesus became the Sacricial Lamb oered ormankind so we could be delivered rom the tyranny and ruleo Satan! Just as the children o Israel observed the Passoverto celebrate their deliverance rom slavery in Egypt, Christiansobserve Communion to celebrate deliverance rom sin and itsconsequences. Communion is our Passover!

In the Old Testament God said, When I see the blood, I willpass over you (Exod. 12:13). When the death angel saw theblood o the lamb on the door, he passed over the people inthe house. When we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, Hisbloodthe blood o the Lamb o Godis applied to our lives.

Thereore, when judgment comes our way, it passes over usbecause o the blood!

Hundreds o years ater Israels releaserom bondage, Jesus and His disciples were inthe Upper Room celebrating what happenedlong ago in Egypt. And at this time Jesus in-stituted the Lords Supper as an ordinance orthe Church.

    The Passover Was ProPheTic

In the Old Testament, the Passover wasprophetic. Through the centuries, the proph-

ecy had been passed down rom generation to generation that

there would come a great Deliverera Messiahwho wouldagain ree the Israelites rom their slavery. But, unknown tothem, the ulllment o that prophecy required the death oJesus Christ.

At the Last Supper, as Jesus and His disciples celebrat-ed their oreathers reedom, Jesus picked up the cup andsaid, Drink rom it, all o you. This is my blood o the cove-nant, which is poured out or many or the orgiveness o sins (Matt. 26:2728 NIV 1984). He was reerring to His ownblood, soon to be shed.

When Jesus took bread and broke it and took the cup anddrank rom it, He knew what He was doing. He understood

that His breaking the bread was a type, or shadow, o His o-ering His own body to be mutilated, beaten, and pierced. When He oered His disciples the cup, it represented Hisblood being poured out.

As Jesus and His disciples ate the Passover meal, He toldthem, I will not any more eat thereo, until it be ulflled in thekingdom o God (Luke 22:16). Ater saying this about Hisdeath, Jesus looked at the 12 men who had walked with Himthrough thick and thin.

Jesus tried to explain the coming events to His disciples, but they wouldnt receive what He was saying. He didnt get

upset with their lack o understanding. He simply continued to

encourage, minister to, and instruct them.

Jesus did His best to strengthen His disciplesto give them

encouragement and hope that would sustain them through the

coming hours. He knew that they would be tested to the limit.

He understood that they were about to ace the most trying three

    days o their lives.

According to the Scriptures, when Jesus was arrested, the dis-

ciples ran away (Matt. 26:56). Even Peter, who had said, Even

i I have to die with You, I will not deny You! (Matt. 26:35 NKJV),

stood in the courtyard outside the high priests house and said, I

dont even know who this man is! (Luke 22:5462).

When the hour nally arrived, Jesus was beaten, mocked, and

scorned as all the orces o hell unleashed their power against

Him. Picture in your mind Jesus standing in the judgment hall

with the crown o thorns upon His head, blood streaming down

His orehead onto His beard and dripping onto the foor, his back

cut to ribbons rom the stripes that had been laid upon Him.

There He stood, condemned to death so we might have lie and

have it more abundantly (John 10:10).

Jesus chose to walk up Golgothas hill. He said, I lay down

My lie. No man takes it rom Me (John 10:1718). Jesus went

to the cross willingly. And with three nails and two rough pieces

o lumber, He built a bridge whereby mankind could pass rom

death to lierom the slavery o sin to the reedom o glorious

    salvation!

Jesus death on the cross was Gods divine plan to deliver man-

kind rom Satan. Satan had walked into Gods garden and had

stolen man rom Him. God had to pay a ransom to buy mankind

back, and that ransom was the death o His Son Jesus on the

cross. Jesus paid the ultimate price and made the supreme sac-

rice. But He arose! God planned the cross so He could ransom

us, make us whole, and give us everything that He says belongs

    to us!

The Communion Table speaks to us o its origins in the Jewish

Passover, which commemorated the deliverance o the children

o Israel rom slavery in Egypt. The Communion Table speaks o

ourdeliverance. Jesus, the spotless Lamb o God, was slain so we

could be saved, and His blood has been applied to our hearts.

    Jesus is our Passover Lamb!

to eat this Passover with you.

    L u k e 2 2 : 1 5 ( N I V 1 9 8 4 )

Jesus longed with all His heart to eat the last Passovermeal before His death with His disciples. Why? Becauseat the end of that meal, He would institute a new Passovermeal which we call the Lords Supper, or Communion. It symbolizes mankinds redemption from slavery to sin.Jesus knew His death would provide deliverance for allpeople from the chains of sin, sickness, and povertyforever.

Jesus looked forward to fullling the will of God in theearth, even though it meant His death on Calvary. He eagerly awaited the cross that stood before Himbecause He understood the message it would preachfor centuries to come. He looked toward His impending

death with hope and anticipation, because He knew thatHe was the Sacricial Lamb for all mankind.

To many modern Christians,Communion is a meaningless, outdatedritual. But it is really a living reminderof the foundation ofour faithcapturingthe very heart of

the Gospel. Thispackage highlightsthe importance, usefulness, andmeaning of thiskey ordinance ofthe Church.

WheneveR I ThInko Febru-ary, I think o love and Valentines

Day. On February 14, many people

celebrate the love o their lie, and it is

certainly wonderul to do that. Yet it is more

important that we learn to practice love in our

    lives on a daily basis.

Many people reer to First Corinthians 13 as the

love chapter. Too oten, we want to skip over reading that

part o the Bible. I admit I have elt that way at times, but the Lord

continues to lead me to read it. In act, whenever my husband

and I perorm a marriage ceremony, I always read this portion o

chapter 13 to the bride and groom:

    1 COrinthians 13:47 (aMPLiFied)

    PuT iT inTo PracTice

I we would practice this passage daily, we could

live peaceul, productive lives. The problem is, our fesh oten

gets in the way. Instead o ignoring injustices that are done to us,

we want to get even; instead o walking in love, we want to repay

    evil or evil.

One o the things I witnessed in the lie o my ather-in-law,

Kenneth E. Hagin, was that he not only taught about the love

walk, he truly lived it. He never considered getting even. At times,

my husband and I got exasperated when we heard others criticize

and say hurtul things about our amily or ministry. Sometimes

we expressed our eelings to my ather-in-law, but he would tell

us, Dont ever stoop to their level; always walk the high road.

Im orever grateul or his example and or his being straightor-

ward with us. I still hear those words ringing in my ears when Im

tempted to take the low road and return evil or evil.

The test o walking in love is not something we pass one time

and never have to experience again. The act is, our love walk will

Love . . . is patient and kind. . . .Love (Gods love in us) . . . is ever ready

to believe the best o every person.

kinds o tests on a daily basis!

    Learn To TaLk iT ouT

Lie is too short to live in constant turmoil in your home.

This holds true regarding your relationships with riends as well.

When strie arises in our relationships, we can deal wisely with it

and keep First Corinthians 13:47 as our oundation.

We can learn something about this rom the Apostle Paul. The

church at Corinth was suering rom such strie within it that he

    had to remind the mem-

bers, Be perect, be o good

    comort, be o one mind,

live in peace; and the God o

love and peace shall be with

    you (2 Cor. 13:11). I be-

    lieve we should adopt as

    our amily motto, Be o

    one mind. Live in peace.

In order to live out that

    instruction rom Paul, we

    must learn to communi-

    cate eectively with oth-

    ers, beginning with our

    spouses and children.

    Communication is oten

the most dicult skill to master, because we can experience so

many dierent emotions when we are sharing our thoughts and

eelings. Paul talked about this in Ephesians 4:2627:Be ye an-

gry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give

place to the devil. Be angry and sin not sounds like a contradic-

tory statement, but it isnt. The Lord knows that anger is one o

the emotions we experience in lie, yet He tells us, Although you

may be eeling angry, do not sin. What exactly does that mean?

You may experience angry eelings, but dont use those eel-

ings to get even. In the midst o anger, you might say words that

you may not really mean, but those cutting words will orever

ring in the ears o the recipient.

    Take The high road

When we choose the high roadloveit causes peace toreign in our relationships and in our lives.

Its important to express your love and appreciation or your

amily and riends on a continual basis. My husband and I make

it a point to say I love you to each other many times a day, and

I oten say that to my children and grandchildren. We all need to

be reassured o the love others have or us, and we need to reas-

sure others o our love or them.

You may not have heard anyone say to you, I love you, very

oten in your childhood, and you may nd it awkward to say

those words yoursel. But I encourage you that i youll start say-

ing, I love you, to people you care about, each time you repeat

those words, they will become easier to say and more naturalto you.

You can begin right now by determining that every daynot

just on Valentines Dayyou will walk in love and express words

o love to your amily and riends.

We have practiced these guidelines over the years. I willnot pretend that we perfected them overnight. But as webegan to practice these principles, we found that peacecontinually reigned in our home.

The Only fIghT the Christian is called upon to ght is the

aith ght. I we are in any other kind o ght, we are in the

wrong ght. We need to get out o the wrong ght and get into

    the right one.

Some Christians say, Im going to ght the devil. Theres no

need to do that! Jesus already deeated him or you. And you

wouldnt be any match or him anyway.

Some say, Im going to ght sin. There is no need to do that

either, because Jesus has the cure or sin. The cure or sin is Jesus.

According to Hebrews 9:26, He put away sin by the sacrice oHimsel. So there really isnt a sin problem. Theres just a sinner

problem, and when you get the sinner to Jesus, Jesus cures that.

There are enemies in this ght o aith which we are instructed

to ght. I there were no enemies or hindrances to aith, there

would be no ght to it.

One o the greatest hindrancesone that holds many peo-

ple in bondageis a lack o understanding o how to act on

    Gods Word.

    Trying To BeLieve

You see, some Christians try to believe, and it is such a strug-

gle or them. They say theyre trying to have aith. All thats

necessary, however, is to act on what God says in His Word. I we

know the Word o God is true and act on it, then it becomes a

    reality in our lives.

I use the phrase acting on Gods Word rather than the terms

have aith or believe because that is what aith actually is.

Faith is simply acting on Gods Wordacting like its true.

Real aith is a product o the knowledge o the Word o God.

Isnt that what Romans 10:17 says? Faith cometh by hearing, and

hearing by the word o God.

It takes no eort whatsoever on the part o the intellect or the

will o man to obtain aith. As soon as the light o Gods Word

comes, aith is there. Knowledge o Gods Word comes rstthenaith automatically accompanies it.

    MenTaL assenT

Many times we unknowingly make a substitution or aith. We

substitute mental assent or mental agreement. For instance,

we mentally agree that Gods Word is true, and we think we are

believing and that we are in aithbut were not.

You can mentally assent or mentally agree all day long that the

Bible is true, but the Word does not become real to you until you

act on it. It is only when you act on Gods Word or yoursel that

it becomes a reality toyou. And it is only when you act on Gods

Word that you are exercising aith.

    Fight the good fght o aith. 1 t I m o t h y 6 : 1 2

I prayed for the salvation of my oldest brother, Dub,for more than 15 years. Several times I fasted. But

the more I fasted and prayed, the worse he got. Then I began to see what the Bible says. Prayerand fasting are right. But I wasnt trusting God todo the work in my brothers life. I was trying to doit myself. It was as if I were trying to force God intodoing something.

So one day I took my authority as a believer. I stood inmy bedroom and said, I take the Name of Jesus andbreak the power of the devil over Dubs life and claimhis deliverance from the devil and claim his salvation.I went out of the room singing. I was acting onGods Word.

I didnt think about or pray about Dubs salvationagain. Once I settle a case in victory, I dont think

    about it anymore!

Within 10 days, Dub was saved.Someone asked me, What if ithadnt worked that fast? It wouldnthave bothered me at all. I wouldhave held fast to Gods Word andacted on it. If it had taken 100 years,I would have known Dub would besaved. Gods Word is true!

For example, you can hold to the resurrection truth as a great

doctrine, but it will not mean a thing to you until you can believe

in your heart and say with your mouth, Jesus died or me. Jesus

was raised rom the dead or me! He arose victorious over death,

hell, and the graveand He did it all or me! Im ree!

Its when you believe the resurrection truth in your heart and

coness it with your mouthwhen you act on itthat the Word

o God becomes something more than just a doctrine. It becomes

a reality. Remember, the people who get answers rom God arethose who act on His Word.

acT Like The BiBLe is True

When the crises o lie come, i you dont know how to act on

Gods Word, you are at a disadvantage.

I pastored almost 12 years and ound that churches have the

same problems amilies have. In one church I pastored, as we

were discussing problems within the church, the board o dea-

cons said to me, What are we going to do now? I just smiled and

said, Were just going to act like the Bible is true.

You know, just by my saying those words, that deacon board

sighed in reliebecause they knew the Bible is true!

I believe the Greater One lives in us. I believe He is greater thanthe devil. I know the Word o God says that, so I must act like it is

true. When I begin to act like the Word o

God is true, thats when it becomes a reality

in my lie. That is when the Greater One

    goes to work or me.

I I act like I must ght the battle, He

cant ght it. I I ght the battle, I am not

taking advantage o the Greater One and

what He has done or me. Can you see

that? So I dont try to gure out the situ-

ation. I just put Gods Word to work or

me by acting on it, and the Word ghts my

battles or me.As believers, all we need to do is act

on the Word. Its deeply important that we

learn this simple little lesson, because it is

not struggling, it is not rettingit is act-

The pRopheT IsAIAh asked, Who has believed our

report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been

revealed? (Isa. 53:1 NKJV). Whenever you encounter

problems, its up to you to decide which report youwill believeeither reports about your natural circum-

stances or the promises of God. Many people say they

believe Gods Word, but their actions in the midst of a

    trial prove otherwise.

In Numbers chapters 13 and 14 we read the account

of the 12 spies Moses sent to explore the Promised

Land. This story is relevant to us today because were

dealing with the same devil, and he hasnt changed.

Hes telling the same lies today that he did back then.

In the midst of adversity it boils down to this: what are

we going to believe? People often believe what they

see and hear. And some always have an excuse for

why something wont work. When you mention Godspromises, they yawn and say, I know the Bible says

that. And with a lackadaisical attitude, they go on

    about their business.

Joshua and Caleb were part of the 12. They saw the

same things the others saw. Although 10 of the spies

brought back an evil report, Joshua and Caleb saw

things differently. They believed God when He said,

Im going to give you the land. They knew there were

problems, but they believed God would deliver them.

Caleb and Joshua had faith. They believed God and

spoke out what they believed. They never changed

their confession the entire time they were in the wil-

derness. In our own situations, we should follow theirexamples to continually declare the word of the Lord

until we see it manifest in our lives. Joshua and Caleb

kept saying it. And they were the only two of the older

generation who saw the Promised Land.

duRIng PRayeR meeTIngS that Kenneth E. Hagin held in

the early 80s, he oten told the congregation to pray or the coun-

try the Lord had laid on their hearts. For John Romick, a 1984

RBTC grad, that country was South America. And during his

two years at Rhema, he laid a oundation o prayer or what he

    is doing today.

Although South America was on Johns heart, his path to the

southern hemisphere was by way o Guatemala. Ater graduat-

ing rom Rhema, John committed to work or our years at Liv-

ing Water Teaching mission. It was there in Guatemala that John

ound Alba, his soul mate and the woman who would stand by

his side and undergird him as they together ullled Gods plan

or South America. And it was in Guatemala that the Lord said to

    John, Bogot, Colombia.

Ater ullling his commitment to the mission, John and Alba

headed to Bogot, where they started a Bible school. In 2000 the

school, Centro de Entrenamiento Bblico de Colombia (CEBCO),

joined the Rhema network, which today includes 159 campuses

in 45 nations. Rhema CEBCO continues as a preparatory school

    or Rhema Colombia.

People rom all walks o lie have attended Rhema Colombia.

One group that is dear to Johns heart is pastors. The ve-old

ministers are the ones who will change a city, change a country,

says John. Weve had hundreds o pastors come to Rhema Co-

lombia over the years. These guys already have churches. Theyre

already ministering and preaching every week. They get red up

about the Gospelpower, victory, aith, and the authority o the

believerand they go out and put it to work.

One such minister is Pastor Ernesto Aleman. When he came

to Rhema Colombia, he was pastoring a small church. At Rhema

he got hold o the aith message and who he is in Christ. As he

began sharing these newound truths with his congregation, his

church experienced explosive growth and had to move to a larger

building. Instead o reaching a ew, hes reaching thousands with

    the Gospel!

    Training The chiLdren

Not long ater starting Rhema Colombia, John and Alba sensed

the Lord dealing with them about training children and preteens

in the knowledge and power o Gods Word. As a result, CEBCO

Nios was born in 2003. Children ages 7 through 12 meet every

other Saturday or our hours. They are taught aith, the believ-

ers authority, and other such subjects on a kids level. Since the

school began, around 600 children have graduated.

Rhema CEBCO picks up where CEBCO Nios leaves o. The

Rhema CEBCO extension school program grounds teenagers and

adults in the oundational truths o the Word o God and better

prepares them to attend Rhema Colombia. To date there are 19

Rhema CEBCO campuses throughout Colombia, with two more

campuses opening soon. Many children who have graduated

rom CEBCO Nios look orward to going to Rhema CEBCO.

Students as young as 14 have enrolled in the school, and many

graduates have then ltered into Rhema Colombia.

So many o our young people go through the

whole thing[CEBCO Nios, Rhema CEBCO, and

Rhema Colombia] says Alba. Theyre the ones who

are so on re or God.

Theyve planted churches, evangelized, held cru-

sades, and gone into the prisons, adds John. There

are all kinds o ministries planted by them. Its hard

to keep track o everything that is going on with so many gradu-ates. Theyre solidin aith, integrity, and holiness. It seems as

i when they grab hold o the Word, they just embrace it and it

becomes their lie. They just go orth or God.

    rheMa cuBa

The importance o Rhemas international campuses is clearly

seen in the opening o Rhema Cuba. Although it is easier today

or Americans to travel to Cuba, many restrictions are still in

place. Colombians, however, are able to travel reely to Cuba.

Ater graduating, some Rhema Colombia alumni began going

into Cuba on missions trips and made contacts with Cuban pas-

tors. In January 2011, these graduates, along with John, held a

leadership seminar in Havana. The gathering spiked interest in a

    Rhema campus opening in Cuba.

John then brought Angel Sosa, a Cuban pastor, to Bogot to

attend Rhema Colombia. Pastor Sosa graduated in December

2011 and returned to his nation to serve as an instructor and the

Rhema Cuba campus coordinator. He did the legwork to start the

school, which opened in February 2012.

I believe Rhema Cuba is a key or the revival o Cuba, says

John. Communism has devastated that country or 60 years. We

believe the school will be key to changing the history o Cuba.

Rhema Cuba opened with 110 students. However, nearly 70

applicants were turned away because they couldnt cram any

more people into the space. Morning and evening classes are

held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Forty percent o Rhema Cubas

    students are pastors rom vari-

    ous denominations.

    The students are grabbing

hold o what they are being

    taught with great passion. In

one class, the subject was the

    Holy Spirit. At the beginning

o the course, only 20 stu-

    dents spoke in tongues. But

    that didnt last long. Soon,

    everyone was lled with the

Spirit and speaking in their heavenly

language. Once outside the class, the

pastors enrolled in Rhema Cuba im-

    mediately began sharing with their

    congregations the importance o being

lled with the Spirit and speaking in

    tongues!

    go ye . . .

John and Alba are committed to

    training solid ministers and laypeople

in the truths o Gods Word. And Rhe-

    ma Colombia graduates are commit-

ted to taking the Gospel throughout

Colombia and around the world. Over

300 churches in Colombia are now pa-

stored by graduates. And what a dier-

ence they are making in the nation!

A real spiritual awakening has swept

    across Colombia. People everywhere

are open to the Gospel, and miracles,

    signs, and wonders are commonplace.

The lost are turning to the Lord, and

    church growth throughout the nation

    has been phenomenal. The Romicks

and Rhema Colombia grads are keenly

aware o the need to preach the Gospel

to all men beore the Lord returns. And

they are doing everything possible to

    hasten His coming.

Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands thatshed innocent blood, a heart that devises wickedplans, feet that run rapidly to evil, a false witnesswho utters lies, and one who spreads strifeamong brothers (Prov. 6:1619 NASB).Q: What makes You happy?
