For the class of 2014, it is the final farewell to St. Pius X School. Many of our 8th graders have grown up with us and St. Pius is the only school that they have ever known. We have watched them mature from pre-kindergarteners and kindergartners into young adults. When they are not immersed in their studies, they lead the school community in prayer each day, tutor our younger students after school, perform acts of Christian service, act as lectors and altar servers at our school and parish Masses, and volun- teer to help their teachers and fellow classmates. They will continue their journey next fall in high schools throughout the capital dis- trict. We will miss their smiles as well as their antics, but we are secure in knowing that they are very well-prepared for the academic challenges they will face. Perhaps most importantly, while they have been with us at St. Pius, they have heard the Gospel message each day, and they understand the responsibilities they bear as Christians. We will pray that they take the lessons learned at home and school with them to find success and happiness while at the same time helping make the world a brighter place for everyone they meet. May God continue to bless them and their families. At the other end of the school, our younger students are winding up rather than wind- ing down as the days get hotter and they sense the approach of swimming pools, camping trips and the freedom from homework. It has been another rewarding year for our school community and our dedicated faculty and staff. With your constant support, and a commitment to our mission, we have tried to provide our students with a wonderful place to learn and grow. I would like to thank our new spiritual leader, Father Walsh, for his on-going support of our ministry. My gratitude also to all of our teachers, who taught, comforted and sometimes corrected our students this year. Thank you to our School Board members, who donate their time and treasures in an effort to make our school the best it can be, and to our Parent School Association who contribute so much to the life of our school. Thank you also to the Pastoral Council and our entire parish community who also support our ministry. Our sincere thanks especially to you, our parents and guardians, for entrusting us with your most precious gifts each day. May God bless you and your children with a very safe and relaxing summer. Thank you to our students and faculty for your prayerful participation in
Catholic Relief Services’ Operation Rice Bowl this past Lent. Your generous
donation of over $1000 has helped make Operation Rice Bowl a success.
75% of the Operation Rice Bowl contributions will go to Catholic relief
Services and support projects to help people all around the world who strug-
gle with the burdens of hunger and poverty. 25% of the contributions raised
remain in the Albany Diocese and help fund hunger and poverty alleviation
programs in Parish Outreach that assist people in our own local communities.
