For more than 125 years, the Royal BC Museum has preserved, explained and celebrated BC’s heritage. Its seven million artifacts and archives record what BC has been and is. The striking mix of natural history and social history, from mammoths to masks, enables it to tell the widest possible range of stories: of land and people, of place and movement. Today, as BC’s largest museum, the Royal BC Museum attracts half a million visitors a year.

MUSEUMS AT THE CROSSROADS?Professor Jack LohmanIn this collection of illuminating essays, Jack Lohman shares his views on the role of museums in the various cultures of the world, on the challenges of creating resilient cultural institutions in the face of financial crises, and much more.

VIKINGS: LIVES BEYOND THE LEGENDSWarriors, Valkyries, explorers and merchants – what do we really know about the people we call Vikings? Recent archaeological discoveries have shed new light on the Viking Age; this book examines the myths, beliefs and traditions of the Norse people.

Recent archaeological discoveries have shed new light on the Viking Age. These discoveries have inspired the creation of a new exhibition from the Swedish History Museum in Stockholm. Vikings! The Lives Beyond the Legends showcases examples of astonishing craftsmanship in weaponry, jewellery, textiles and other objects, made from a variety of materials, including gold, silver, glass, silk and amber.

“The objects tell numerous stories. They provide clues to life on the farm, aristocrats and slaves, strong women, the power of mythology, the importance of crafts, the symbolism of the ships, and the transition between different religions.” – Gunnar Andersson

This book compliments the exhibitionand examines the myths, beliefs andtraditions of the Norse people duringthe Viking Age.

VIKINGS: Journey to New Worlds in IMAXThey came from the North and soon the legends would say that they did not know fear. They sailed icy oceans and narrow rivers, striking far inland, without warning, without

mercy. However, the truth about the Vikings is far more complex. Much of Europe’s traditions, technology and institutions come to us from these fierce men of the North.

Shot on location in Iceland, Greenland, and Newfoundland, this breathtaking IMAX film joins the Viking warriors, explorers and settlers as they set out in search of new lands.
