    Ask ten people how they

    feel about Valentines

    Day and it would be

plausible, if not definite, to get

    ten different answers. Some sug-

gest it is a created holiday

    only conceived to make money

    by manipulating women and

men in its importance. Others(read as single people) take a

more bitter stance to the day

    and its in-your-face (you cant

open your eyes without seeing a

    heart), over priced flowers (it

    does get ridiculous), chocolate

    covered everything (well every-

    one loves chocolate covered on

    something) approach that is

    Valentines Day.

    Whatever one may think,

in reality the day of love issimply that; one day out of the

    year that calls out everybody

and brings his or her feelings to

    the forefront. Whether single or

    committed, Valentines Day

    makes you think about loved

ones. Silly at times with a little

too much focus on the material

aspects of it, February 14th is

    not about giving or receiving

gifts, although lately it hasevolved to that. At its core,

    Valentines Day is about dedi-

    cating yourself unconditionally

to a loved one for 24 hours.

    One may say that people

    should always treat each other

this way and its true, but unfor-

    tunately unrealistic. Too many

times we get caught in the daily

    web of work, responsibilities,

and other frivolous tasks thatseem important on any given

    day. Valentines Day makes peo-

    ple check themselves and

reminds them of what is essen-

tial; why they work hard every

day and night, and that is for

the people we love. If it were up

to most of us we would be on a

    beach somewhere not stressing

    about tomorrow and loving

today, instead we work hardhour to hour losing countless

nights of sleep, and we do it for

the people we love. I do not see

anything wrong with a day that

    reminds us of that.

    Happy Valentines Day, make

the best out of it. Love ya!

In my more than 30 years

    in the financial services

    industry, I have found

that quite a few people have

no clue about correct andprudent retirement planning

    to include: asset accumula-

    tion and lifetime income

    planning, portfolio manage-

    ment, inter-generational

    wealth transfer (estate plan-

ning), long-term care plan-ning, the purchase of disabil-

    ity insurance - health insur-

    ance - liability insurance and

    life insurance, mutual funds,

    annuities, Medicare and

    Social Security benefit plan-

ning, reverse mortgages, when to refinance a mort-

gage, buying vs. leasing a car,

    owning vs. renting a home,

    pension elections for income

    maximization and what to do

with a settlement from a law-

    suit, lottery winning or aninheritance.

    So, after careful consid-

    eration and thought, I have

    decided to solicit financial

    questions from my loyal read-

ers of Life and Leisure so that

I may respond to your exact

    concerns in this column

every issue. Much like a Dear

for all to benefit. All ques-

    tions should include the

    Curvaceous figures

    were once coveted

    before it became in

vogue to be thin to meet the

    concept of modern-day beau-

    ty. Although waif models still

    dominate the runways at

    major fashion shows, it seems

    that the plus-size figure is

once again being recognizedand embraced by the fashion

    community -- and the world.

    Big and beautiful

    Sir Peter Paul Rubens

    was a 16th and 17th century

    Flemish painter, perhaps best

    known for selecting women

    with curvaceous, voluptuous

figures as the subject matter of

his work. Before the 20th cen-

    tury, historians say that

women who were consideredattractive displayed bodies

    ripe with curves.

    During the periods of

time many refer to as the

    Middle Ages and beyond,

    plus-size figures were coveted.

    Paintings and sculptures of

this time -- those even outside

    of Ruben's domain -- clearly

    show chubbier figures, which

    were considered to be appeal-

    ing. That's because one's

weight was often a sign of hisor her social status. Wealthy

people were able to afford and

    indulge in the fattening foods

    that would pack on the

    pounds. Therefore, poor peo-

ple who also may have been

thin were not seen as attrac-

    tive. Today these Rubenesque

    figures are regarded as being

too fat in areas of the world

    where food is plentiful. In

fact, the tides may haveturned completely. Where

weight was once a sign of opu-

    lence, today obesity is largely

a problem of the lower class.

    But in countries where starva-

    tion still occurs, heavier

    women are often considered

    as being more beautiful.

    Thin is in?

    Estimates suggest that 8

    million Americans have an

    eating disorder, although this

number may be higherbecause many people with an

    eating disorder fail to disclose

it or seek treatment. A study

    by the National Association

    of Anorexia Nervosa and

    Associated Disorders reported

that 5 to 10 percent of anorex-

ics die within 10 years after

    contracting the disease; 18 to

20 percent of anorexics will be

dead after 20 years and only

30 to 40 percent ever fullyrecover.

    Although anorexia,

    bulimia and other disorders

    are classified as mental

    illnesses, there are some

    women (and men) who

    have attested to the fact

    that media portrayals of

    thinness as a sign of

    beauty have impacted

    their body images on

    various levels. Many

health experts have stat-ed that the proliferation

    of eating disorders and

    depression over body

    image is largely influ-

    enced by the media.

    Studies have indicated

that two out of five women

and one out of five men would

trade three to five years of

    their life to achieve their

    weight goals. And 80 percent

of women who answered apast People magazine survey

    responded that images of

    women on television and in

    the movies make them feel

    insecure.

    The rise of plus-size

    While no doctor or

health expert will tell you it is

healthy to be obese, the factremains that every person's

    body is different. There are

    healthy women who wear a

    size 4 and healthy

    women who wear a size

    14. More and more peo-

    ple are beginning to

    embrace their bodies as

    they are, and that switch

    has given rise to an

    increase in the number

    of plus-size models and

    personalities appearingin major campaigns.

    Model Crystal Renn

    is just one proponent of

    the movement for all

    sizes to be viewed as

    beautiful. Renn, who

    authored the 2009 "Hungry:

    A Young Model's Story of

    Appetite, Ambition and the

    Ultimate Embrace of Curves,"

nearly lost her life due to

anorexia and other extrememeasures she endured to walk

    the catwalk with a fashion-

    Chiropractic doctors

    have long held that

    posture - meaning

    body alignment and balance -

    is intimately related to

    health. As a chiropractor, I

    am encouraged to see medi-

    cine is now acknowledging

    the power of this relationship.

    An article in the AMER-

    ICAN JOURNAL OF PAIN

    MANAGEMENT, entitled

    "Postural and Respiratory

    Modulation of Autonomic

    Function, Pain and Health" by

    J. Lennon, illustrates the

    gains medicine has made in

    recognizing the effect of pos-

ture on health. Some of the

    points expressed include:

    Posture, and normal physi-

    ology and function, are inter-

    related.

    Abnormal posture is evi-

    dent in patients with chronic

pain-related conditions suchas backache, headache and

    stress-related illness.

    Posture affects and moder-

    ates every physiologic func-

    tion, both consciously and

    unconsciously, from breath-

    ing to hormonal production

    to thinking.

    It appears homeostasis and

    autonomic regulation are

    intimately connected with

    posture.

    Despite the considerable

    evidence posture affects

    physiology and function, the

    significant influence of pos-

ture on health is missed or

    not addressed by most physi-

    cians.

    Helping improve and

    maintain correct posture is

one of the primary goals of

    chiropractic care. Regular

    evaluation of posture and

    spinal alignment is vital to

    ensuring not only normal

    spinal function, but good

health. For this reason, it is

important that chiropracticcare should begin early in

    childhood and continue

    throughout life.

    Has your family been

    checked lately?

    Tax returns for 2011 are

    barely begun but it is

    not too early to start

    thinking about tax planning

strategies for 2012. This is by

    no means an all-encompassing

list, so be sure to discuss your

    specific situation with your

    tax professional. Some impor-

    tant tax code changes for

    2012 are:

    Individuals

    Each personal and

    dependent exemption is

    $3,800 - an increase of $100

    over 2011.

    The 2012 standard item-

    ized deduction rose slightly. A

    taxpayer filing as single (or

    married filing separately), saw

a $150 increase to the basic

deduction as it rose to $5,950.

    Married couples filing a joint

    return gained a $300 deduc-

    tion to $11,900. Those filing

as Head of Household have an

    additional $200 deduction as

    the amount increased to

    $8,700.

    The maximum earned

income tax credit for low and

    moderate income workers rose

    to $5,891 for 2012, a $140

    increase from 2011.

    Standard mileage rates

    regarding charitable miles

    driven remained unchanged

at 14 cents per mile. The

    deduction for medical mileage

changed to 23 cents per mile.

    Business miles driven

    increased to 55.5 cents per

    mile for most vehicles earlier

    in 2011 and that amount

    remains unchanged going into

    2012.Though the credit

    amounts don't change for

    2012, the modified adjusted

    gross income threshold at

    which the lifetime learning

    education credit begins to

phase out is $104,000 for joint

    filers and $52,000 for single

    filers. This is up from

    $102,000 and $51,000, respec-

    tively.

Perhaps the item withthe potential for greatest

    impact is the decreased

    Alternative Minimum Tax

    (AMT) exemption from

    $74,500 to $45,000 for a mar-

    ried couple. Single taxpayers

    and those filing Head of

    Household experience an

    exemption decrease from

$48,450 to $33,750. Be sure to

    discuss this change with your

    tax professional - the poten-

    tial impact could be signifi-

    cant.

    Lastly, the FICA ceiling

    rose to $110,100 from

    $106,800. The good news is

    that the employee rate

    remains at 4.2% at least

    through February 29, 2012.

Currently, that rate is slated to

increase to the historic rate of

6.2% after that date, but many

believe the lower rate will be

    extended for the entire year.

Touch base with your CPA in

    mid-February to see what hap-

    pens.

    Businesses

    Depreciation is often a

    significant deduction for busi-

    nesses. Unfortunately, two sig-

    nificant depreciation deduc-

    tions decreased for 2012. The

    Code Section 179 deduction

    for equipment purchases is

    $139,000 of the first $560,000

    of business property placed in

    service during 2012. This is

    down from $500,000 of the

    first $2,000,000 in 2011. First-

    year bonus depreciation also

    decreased to 50% of qualified

    property (down from 100%).

    Many other very specific

    changes occurred regarding

    certain employee fringe bene-

    fits, estimated tax payments

    and qualified retirement plans

    - to mention just a few.

Please keep in mind this is not

a complete list of changes for

tax year 2012 - and there like-

ly will be further changes as

    the year progresses. Due to

    current economic conditions -

and the fact that this is an

election year - it is more

    important than ever to keep

    in contact with your CPA.

    Income tax planning is only

    tial!

    Valentines Day is upon

us. This is a day to

    celebrate our loved

ones and show them we care.

We also have to take care of

    our fourlegged loved ones as

    some Valentines Day gifts and

ideas may be hazardous to your

    pets.

    The most obvious warn-

ing is: Dont Let Your Pets Eat

    Chocolate. Chocolate is one

    of the traditional gifts on

    Valentines Day but can be

    very dangerous to pets, even

    life threatening. The toxic

    compounds in chocolate

    are methylxanthines, mainly

    theobromine and less impor-

    tantly caffeine. The amounts

    of theobromine and caffeine

vary with the type of choco-

    late. For instance, unsweet-

    ened (Baker's) choco-

    late contains 8-10

    times the amount of

    theobromine as milk

    chocolate. This is a

    very common toxicity

    in dogs and seen less

    in cats just by nature

    of their eating habits.

    Clinical signs of

    chocolate toxicity

    usually occur within 6

    to 12 hours of inges-

    t ion. Theobromine

    affects the body as

    a Central Nervous

    System (CNS) stimu-

    lant, cardiovascular

    stimulant, increases blood

    pressure and nausea.

    Therefore, common signs of

    chocolate toxicity are: vomit-

    ing, diarrhea, hyperactivity,

    tremors, seizures, fast heart

    rate and, in severe cases,

    death. If your pet ingests

    chocolate, contact your veteri-

    narian or poison control

    immediately for treatment.

    Also, knowing the type and

    quantity of chocolate ingested

    is helpful.

    Another potential hazard

for pets on this sweet holiday

    is any sugar-free gum or

    candy. They commonly con-

    tain the sugar substitute xyli-

    tol. Signs of xylitol toxicity

can be seen as quickly as 30

    minutes and causes a sudden

drop in the bodys blood sugar

    (hypoglycemia). This may

    result in weakness, depression,

    loss of coordination, seizures,

    coma and even liver

    failure. Treatment should be

    initiated immediately if inges-

    tion occurs.

    Some holiday flowers,

    though they are romantic, can

be toxic for your pet. The

    biggest culprits are lilies. They

are highly toxic to cats so

make sure your cats cant get

near them or choose a differ-

    ent variety of flower

    but not tulips (the

    bulbs are the most

    toxic), amaryllis,

    daisies, chrysanthe-

    mums or any flowers

    with thorns may be

    potentially dangerous

    flowers.

    Leftover gift-wrapping or

    decorations are enticing for

curious cats. Make sure all rib-

    bons, bows and other wrap-

ping are out of your pets reach

    and cleaned up. Cats especial-

ly like chewing on strings or

    ribbons which can cause chok-

ing or worse an obstruction in

    the intestines that could

    require emergency surgery.

    Candles are also a nice

    touch on Valentines Day but

not to paws and fur. Dont

    leave candles unattended as

pets can easily be burned or

    the candles could be knocked

    over causing a fire.

    One last warning is pets

    given as gifts. Puppies and

kittens are very cute and cud-

dly but owning a pet is a big

    undertaking. Purchasing a pet

should be done in a responsi-

ble way and only after a lot of

    research. If youre ready, you

    should consider adopting a pet

    from your local shelter. These

    steps can be done together

    and are romantic and reward-

    ing.

    Have a sweet and safe

    Valentines Day!

    Space is often

    at a premium

    when trans-

    porting children in a

    car. Safety seats tend

    to be cumbersome

and take up a lot of

    the seat room in a

    vehicle. In most

    areas, law mandates

    some sort of safety

    seat is necessary

    until a child is 8 or 9

    years old and meets

    a certain weight

    maximum. That can mean

    many years of squeezing the

kids into the car, or missing

    out on carpool opportunities

due to safety seats. But a new

    category of inflatable safety

    seats could change the way

    many drivers view car and

    booster seats.

    Products like Go

    Booster(R) and BubbleBum(R)

    were the invention of inno-

    vators in Europe who have

    now brought their creations

    to North America. There are

    also many other brands still

    being produced in Europe,

    including the Luftikid(R).

    Inflatable booster

    seats are lightweight

    and durable. They

    often weigh less than

    2 pounds. Plus, they

    inflate and deflate

    quickly, making these

    seats the ultimate in

    portable options.

    Theres no need to

    worry about safety,

    either. In ordered to

    be sold in the United

    States and Canada,

    any type of child safe-

    ty seat must be rigorously

    crash tested to comply with

    strict vehicle safety stan-

    dards. With a smaller profile,

    these seats can also save

    Starting in

    February, the

    Wayne Lions

    Club will be screen-

    ing the eyes of Wayne

    children in pre-

    schools and nursery

    schools throughout

    the town. This is a

    free service to the

    community. The

screening involves the use of a

machine that tests for the pres-

    ence of Anisometropia

    (unequal refractive power),

    Strabismus (misalignment of

    eyes), Media opacities

    (cataracts), Amblyopia (lazy

    eye), Astigmatism, Farsight-

    edness and Nearsightedness

    The screening results are being

    reviewed by Scott Silodor,

MD, an eye doctor in Wayne.

    If there are any irregularities

    the parents will be contacted

and it will be suggested that

they take their child to an eye

    doctor for further testing.

    The machine used for

    doing these measurements is

    a WelchAllyn SureSight.

Although simple to use, it does

    involve a training session. In

    this photo, Joann Gold

    (of Wayne Rotary)

    screens the eyes of

    Wayne Rotary Pre-

    sident, Barbara

    Schroeder. Monitoring

    the test is Marty

    gram Chairman for the

    Wayne Lions. He came

    to a Rotary meeting to

    demonstrate the machine and

    ask for more volunteers.

    P

    remature babies or pre-

    emies come into the

    world when a pregnan-

cy lasts fewer than 37 weeks.

    Full term babies are born

    between 38 to 42 weeks.

    Because of their early arrival,

    premature infants have differ-

ent needs than that of a full

    term infant.

    Premature babies may

begin their lives in the neona-

    tal intensive care unit

    (NICU) or the special care

    nursery. The NICU is

    designed to provide an atmos-

    phere that limits stress, meets

    the basic needs of warmth,

    nutrition and protection to

    assure proper growth and

    development. After the child

    leaves the NICU, careful

    attention should be paid to

    the development of the nerv-

    ous system. In the early

months of life all of the senso-

    ry systems impose incredible

    degrees of sensory stimulation

on the baby. The sensory sys-

    tems includes the visual, tac-

    tile (touch), auditory (hear-

    ing), olfactory (smell), propri-

    oceptive and kinesthetic

    (body awareness).

    The baby must learn how

to regulate all of the incoming

    sensory information in order

to be at an optimal state to

    learn new skills. This regula-

tion is more difficult for a pre-

    mature baby. A pediatric

    physical therapist can assess

    the premature babys ability to

    regulate the incoming sensory

    stimuli and teach the parents

    how to recognize when the

baby is stressed or not alert.

    The therapist can also deter-

mine the cause of the stress

    and thereby decrease and pre-

vent it. When the baby is

    stressed there can be changes

    in the babys breathing, heart

    function, skin color and diges-

    tion. Some indications of

    stress are:

    Hiccupping.

    Changes in skin color (mot-

    tling or cyanosis (bluish color

    from lack of oxygen)

    Temperature change.

    Tremors or startles.

    Spitting up or bowel move-

    ments.

    Changes in muscle tone ie:

    very flaccid or floppy (hypo-

    tonic) or stiff (hypertonic).

    Crying and fussiness are

    common with difficulty con-

    soling.

    The babys state whether

it is stressed or calm, plays a

vital role in the babys motor

    development. As the baby

    receives input from the senso-

ry systems listed above, it is

    then integrated with the

    motor system and enables the

baby to adjust his head, body

and limbs in space in relation

    to each other and gravity.

When the baby is in an organ-

ized or non stressed state the

    motor system functions easily

    with smooth movements and

    postures. When the baby is

calm he can then attend to

    and interact with his environ-

    ment and learn new skills.

    A premature baby that

    has an impaired sensory sys-

    tem may often demonstrate

    signs of stress. This impair-

    ment can cause the premature

    baby to utilize poor move-

    ment patterns early in devel-

    opment that can lead to

    major motor related problems

    later in life.

    Babies with movement

    impairments do not practice a

    variety of movements and are

    usually only able to maintain

    a few positions and rarely

    alternate between positions.

Because they are not using a

    variety of movement patterns

    they have difficulty activating

    and elongating all of their

    muscles. The baby may never

develop full motion at all of

    his joints making him vulner-

    able to musculoskeletal defor-

    mities.

    The goal of the pediatric

    physical therapist is to guide

    the premature baby through a

    variety of goal directed move-

ments to help the baby learn

    new movements. This guid-

    ance will help increase the

    babys muscle flexibility and

    prevent or minimize the

    development of muscu-

    loskeletal deformities.

    Gena Livingston is a pediatric

    physical therapist, who brings

over five years of experience to

    Kids Therapy Center of

    childhood intervention, Gena is

How can physical therapy help my

premature baby? By Gena Livingston thin body. Renn, who fluctu-ates between a size 10 and a

    size 16, once weighed 95

    pounds, but now speaks out

against pressure to be a certain

weight to be seen as beautiful.

Ford Models has a Ford+ divi-

    sion that caters especially to

    promoting women who do not

    meet the standards of tradi-

    tional stick-thin models.

    While these women may still

    not be considered plus-size

    according to everyday stan-

dards (plus size in the model-

ing industry is between a size 8

and 12), they do present a

    more well-rounded example of

the female body on the run-

    way. Today, the plus-size seg-

ment of Ford has expanded in

    number from its inception and

    has regular bookers.

    Furthermore, these plus-size

    models are being hired for

    mainstream fashion designers,

    not just those geared toward

    plus-size clothing. Renn joins

    Whitney Thompson,

    Marquita Pring, Gitte Lill,

    Natalie Laughlin, Tara Lynn,

    and Alyona Osmanova as

    some of the most recognizable

    names in plus-size modeling.

    Although it's not likely

that fat will be the new thin,

    more media outlets and facets

of the fashion world are show-

casing a wider variety of body

    types today.

    T

    here is truly something

    magical about golf.

    Between the relaxed

    environment, the scenery, and

    the camaraderie that

    inevitably surfaces during

    every good game, you might

say it couldnt possibly get bet-

ter than this. Well it certainly

    can. Imagine golfing the

    British Isles. From the birth-

place of golf in Scotland to the

    sprawling emerald hills of

    Ireland, these islands are truly

    the hallowed grounds of the

    sport. To experience play here

is to truly understand the beau-

ty of golf. Admittedly, for us

    American golfers, it isnt

always easy to get to the other

side of the pond. There are

    flights to consider, accommo-

    dation in a foreign country,

and how on earth do you book

a tee time at some of these

    world class golf resorts? Well,

    its easier than you think.

    G3K a Scottish-based Travel

    and Consulting company is

    your solution for putting

together any golf trip across the

water. You have the desire to

    take the corporate or individ-

ual golf trip of a lifetime, and

    theyve got the extensive

    knowledge, experience, cus-

    tomer care, and attention to

detail to make it happen for

    you! Through a simple step-by-

step process, G3K will set up

    your completely personalized

    trip to Scotland, England,

    and/or Ireland. Heres how it

    works.

    STEP 1: You provide G3K

    with your details and personal

    requirements, starting with

choosing the dates of your golf

    trip. G3Ks most classic trips

leave on a Friday night from

the United States and arrive in

    Scotland or Ireland early the

    next morning. You may then

    specify the countries youd like

    to visit (from Scotland,

    England, and Ireland). More

    specifically, you may request

    certain courses youd like to

    play on (Royal Troon, St.

    Andrews Old, etc.). And final-

ly, you state your personal pref-

    erences for the trip including

    ground transportation, golf cart

    rentals, sightseeing opportuni-

    ties, and anything else specifi-

cally you desire for your trip.

    STEP 2: G3K sorts through

your details in order to come up

with a golf trip that most accu-

    rately suits your needs. The

    company is headed by PGA

    Professional of 29 years,

Stewart Smith, and has a staff

    with over 100 years combined

    experience in marketing and

    hospitality. They have an intri-

    cate knowledge of the best

courses to play, the most luxuri-

ous hotels, and the most excit-

    ing sightseeing opportunities.

    STEP 3: Once youve appr-

    oved your itinerary and quoted

price, the G3K team will take

care of ALL of your bookings.

    All too many home-

    owners have experi-

    enced the joy of

    completing a home improve-

    ment project only to learn

    upon completion that the

    project is not in adherence

    with local laws. That realiza-

    tion, while heartbreaking, is

often the result of a home-

    owners failure to secure a

    building permit prior to start-

    ing the project. Homeowners

    who secure a permit before

the onset of a project will

know what they can and cant

do and can rest easy knowing

    that an approved plan com-

    plies with engineering princi-

    ples and local laws.

    Another disadvantage to

    forgoing the permit process is

    the potential perils such a

    decision causes when home-

    owners want to sell their

    homes. Projects completed

without a permit might hurt a

    homes resale value, and such

    projects are not often covered

    by homeowners insurance

    policies, meaning damage to

areas of the home where an

    wont be covered. While

    Valentines Day is syn-

    onymous with can-

    dlelight dinners,

    romantic movies and deli-

    cious desserts. Although

    chocolate is often standard

fare for the day of love, many

    other treats, including petit

fours, can win the heart of a

    special person.

    Although people often

believe the term petit fourrefers to a particular recipe

    for a dessert, it actually

    denotes a variety of small

    desserts. Petit fours are bite-

    sized pastries generally eaten

at the end of a meal or at tea

    time. The name is comprised

    of French terms meaning

    small oven, which general-

    ly means the desserts are

    cooked at a low temperature

in an oven. Petit fours maybe secs, meaning dry

    desserts, including biscuits

    and puff pastries.

    Most are glaces, or

    iced desserts, such

    as tiny cakes. These

    are often the desserts

    people associate with

    the name petit

    fours.

    Cake-type petit

    fours are traditional-

    ly made from an

    almond flavoredsponge cake or an

    almond genoise.

    Other types of cake,

    such as pound cake,

    can be used, but the

    consistency must be

    firm enough to handle cut-

    ting and filling. The options

in fillings and coatings is as

    endless as the imagination.

Some prefer to coat them in

fondant, a sugary dough thathardens upon standing and

    produces a firm, flat surface

    for decorating. Others like

    their petit fours covered in

    chocolate or another candy

    material.

    These desserts are avail-

able from many bakeries andretailers. For those who want

to treat a Valentine to home-

    made petit fours, one trick

is to bake the batter in mini

loaf pans and then cut in

    half, or use small cupcake

    tins to achieve the desired,

    bite-sized shape. Or bake

the batter in a sheet pan

    and then use cookie cutters

    to make small shapes. Jams,

    fruit preserves, frosting,

    icing, almond paste, and

any other fillings can beused in between the layers.

    Fondant can be pur-

    chased from party and craft

    stores or specially ordered

    from cake decorating retail-

ers. An easy fondant can be

    made from a confectioners

    sugar and marshmallow

    recipe.

    After a romantic meal,

    serve petit fours with a

dessert liqueur for the perfectValentines Day dessert.

    Dining out makes for a

    great a first date. A

    person who is meeting

someone new for the first time

    may want to avoid certain

menu choices if he or she is

    looking to make a good

    impression. Its wise to avoid

    leafy vegetables that may cling

to the teeth and mar a nice

    white smile. Basil, spinach and

mint are items that can stick

to teeth and contribute to a

    poor appearance. Also, skip

foods that are bound to get

stuck in the teeth, like poppy

seeds or corn on the cob. Post-

    dinner conversation shouldnt

    involve picking ones teeth.

    Think about passing on foods

    that are notoriously messy to

eat, like lobster, crab or barbe-

    cued ribs. Theyre sloppy and

    require too much clean-up

    afterwards. Foods that are pun-

    gent may contribute to bad

breath. Garlic is one of the fla-

    vorful, but malodorous, ingre-

    dients that come to mind.

    Onions and curry are other

foods likely to put the kibosh

    on a good-night kiss.
