    This Christmas story gives

    a biblical account of the

    events surrounding the

    birth of Jesus Christ. The

    Christmas story is paraphrased

from the New Testament books ofMatthew and Luke in the Bible.

Mary, a virgin, was living in

    Galilee of Nazareth and was

engaged to be married to Joseph,

a Jewish carpenter. An angel vis-

ited her and explained to her that

she would conceive a son by the

power of the Holy Spirit. She

would carry and give birth to this

child and she would name him

    Jesus.

At first Mary was afraid andtroubled by the angels words.

    Being a virgin, Mary questioned

the angel, How will this be?

    The angel explained that the

child would be Gods own son

    and Nothing is impossible with

God. Humbled and in awe, Mary

believed the angel of the Lord

and rejoiced in God, her Savior.

    Surely Mary reflected with

wonder on the words found in

    Isaiah 7:14 foretelling this event,

    Therefore the Lord himself will

give you a sign: The virgin will be

with child and will give birth to a

son, and will call him Immanuel.

While Mary was still engaged to

    Joseph, she miraculously became

    pregnant through the Holy Spirit,

as foretold to her by the angel.

When Mary told Joseph she was

pregnant, he had every right to

feel disgraced. He knew the child

was not his own, and Marys

    apparent unfaithfulness carried a

    grave social stigma. Joseph not

only had the right to divorce

Mary, under Jewish law she could

be put to death by stoning.

    Although Josephs initial

reaction was to break the engage-

ment, the appropriate thing for a

righteous man to do, he treated

Mary with extreme kindness. Hedid not want to cause her further

shame, so he decided to act quiet-

ly. But God sent an angel to

Joseph in a dream to verify Marys

story and reassure him that his

marriage to her was Gods will.

    The angel explained that the

    child within Mary was conceived

by the Holy Spirit, that his name

would be Jesus and that he was

    the Messiah, God with us.

When Joseph woke from hisdream, he willingly obeyed God

and took Mary home to be his

wife, in spite of the public humil-

iation he would face. Perhaps this

noble quality is one of the reasons

God chose him to be the

    Messiahs earthly father.

Friend,God and the Lord Jesus supernaturally talk to me via the Bible, dreams, visions, and out-of-body

experiences. I was born in a small town in Italy, and came to America with my family in 1954. In 1987I was going through some personal issues coupled with left over emotions (baggage), that were trulyweighing me down. One night after I put my three young daughters to bed, I went to my room, closed

the door and prayed a simple prayer, God help me.

    Everyone has heard about

it! The media had a field

    day reporting about it!

    Congressional leadership is

    paralyzed into inaction by par-

tisan politics in time to pre-

vent or solve the mess that

    they themselves created,

before we all go over the edge!

I felt it necessary to spell out

briefly what this sensation is all

    about.

    Origin of the Fiscal Cliff

    Last year, Congress tried

to lower the federal deficit by

    $2.1 trillion. A super-commit-

    tee of Republicans and

    Democrats created the Budget

Control Act of 2011, a penalty

    for failure thought so egregious,

    it would never be triggered.

    The penalty created includes a

    $1.2 trillion cut in spending,

scheduled to go into effect on

    January 1, 2013.

    What is the Fiscal Cliff?

    The Fiscal Cliff is the

    common name used to

    describe the culmination of

    $500 billion in defense cuts,

    called sequestration, and vari-

    ous tax increases, which

    include:

    Expiration of the two percent

    payroll tax-cut on December

    31, 2012

    A 3.8 percent surcharge on

    investment income to fund

    Obamacare

Capital gains top tax rate will

increase from 15 to 20 percentDividend income top tax rate

will jump from 15 to 43.4 per-

    cent (including the surcharge

    of Obamacare)

    The Alternative Minimum

    Tax threshold will decrease

    from $74,450 to $45,000 for

joint filers and $33,750 for sin-

    gle filers

    The exemption amount for

    Estate and Gift Tax will

decrease from $5 million to $1million, and the tax rate will

rise from 35 to 55 percent

    Options for Dealing with the

    Fiscal Cliff

    Congress has its choice of

    limited, equally unattractive

    options when dealing with the

    Fiscal Cliff:

They can do nothing and let

    the Budget Control Act of

2011 go into effect. This would

result in a number of tax

    increases and spending cuts, as

    previously discussed, which

    could possibly drive the econo-

my back into a recession. The

positive to this option is thedeficit, as a percentage of GDP,

    will be cut in half.

They can cancel some, or all,

    of the scheduled tax increases

    and spending cuts, which

would add to the deficit and

    increase the chances of the

U.S. facing a debt crisis similar

    to the ones currently being

    faced by European nations.

    They could take a middle-of-

the-road course of action, opt-ing for an approach that would

address the budget issues to a

    limited extent, but that would

    have a modest impact on

    growth.

    What options do citizens

have to deal with the antici-

    pated Congressional failure of

either a total or partial solution

    to the massive taxation the

    Joseph too, must have

    wondered in awe as he

    remembered the words found

    in Isaiah 7:14, Therefore the

Lord himself will give you asign: The virgin will be with

child and will give birth to a

    son, and will call him

    Immanuel.

    At that time, Caesar

    Augustus decreed that a cen-

sus be taken, and every person

    in the entire Roman world

had to go to his own town to

    register. Joseph, being of the

line of David, was required to

go to Bethlehem to registerwith Mary. While in

    Bethlehem, Mary gave birth

to Jesus. Probably due to the

census, the inn was too crowd-

ed, and Mary gave birth in a

    crude stable. She wrapped the

baby in cloths and placed him

    in a manger.

    Out in the fields, an

angel of the Lord appeared to

    the shepherds who were tend-

ing their flocks of sheep bynight. The angel announced

that the Savior had been born

    in the town of David.

Suddenly a great host of heav-

    enly beings appeared with the

    angels and began singing

praises to God. As the angelicbeings departed, the shep-

    herds decided to travel to

    Bethlehem and see the Christ

    child.

    There they found Mary,

Joseph and the baby in the

    stable. After their visit, they

    began to spread the word

    about this amazing child and

    everything the angel had said

    about him. They went on

their way still praising andglorifying God. But Mary kept

    quiet, treasuring their words

    and pondering them in her

    heart. It must have been

    beyond her ability to grasp

    that sleeping in her arms

the tender child she had just

borne was the Savior of the

    world.

    After Jesus birth, Herod

was king of Judea. At this time

wise men (magi) from the eastsaw a star. They came in

    search, knowing the star signi-

fied the birth of the king of

the Jews. The wise men came

    to the Jewish rulers in

    Jerusalem and asked where

the Christ was to be born. The rulers explained, In

    Bethlehem in Judea, referring

    to Micah 5:2. Herod secretly

met with the Magi and asked

them to report back after they

    had found the child. Herod

told the Magi that he too

wanted to go and worship the

    babe. But secretly Herod was

    plotting to kill the child.

    So the wise men contin-

ued to follow the star in search

    of the newborn king and

found Jesus with his mother in

Bethlehem. Most likely Jesuswas already two years of age by

    this time. They bowed and

    worshipped him, offering

    treasures of gold, incense and

    myrrh. When they left, they

did not return to Herod. They

had been warned in a dream of

his plot to destroy the child.

    Plenty of people prefer to

    take advantage of hard-

    earned vacation time by

    escaping to somewhere warm

    when the weather at home

gets cold. Buying new items for

    a wardrobe is customary before

a trip, and for those who will

    be spending time swimming

    and snorkeling, a new swim-

    suit is often a necessity.

    As anyone who has had

    to shop for warm-weather

    clothing and accessories dur-

ing the winter in a cold cli-

    mate can attest, finding the

    right swimsuit can be chal-

    lenging. However, it is not

    impossible, especially when

    the Web makes shopping for

    specialty items relatively easy.

    In addition to the Internet,

    there are other retailers who

    may keep swimsuits in stock

    during the offseason.

    Lingerie stores: Shops

    that stock intimate apparel

    often have a section devoted

to swimsuits as well. Retailerslike Victorias Secret generally

    carry swimsuits year-round,

    though your options may be

    limited.

    Department stores: Some

    department stores understand

    that winter escapes are popu-

    lar and will begin stocking

    bathing suits and other sea-

    sonal merchandise in limited

    amounts come January.

Specialty swim shops:Centers that offer swimming

    and SCUBA lessons may sell

    swimsuits and supplies, like

    goggles and bathing caps,

    throughout the year. A spe-

cialty store may be a good

place to start if there is one in

    your area.

    Finding a swimsuit for a

    winter getaway can be chal-

    lenging. But there are some

options available both on-line and in brick-and-mortar

    stores.

    Santas workshop likely

    devotes an entire floor

    to gift wrap, ribbon,

    bows and bags. Intricately

    wrapped presents sustain the

    suspense of the treasure

    beneath the paper. In addi-

    tion, theres something spe-

cial for recipients when a gift

    is adorned in ribbon and

    bows. However, the average

    gift-giver cannot recreate

    Santas wrapping room when

the time comes to wrap gifts.

But a person may be able to

    fashion a compact wrapping

    station in a seldom-used cor-

    ner.

    Many people long to

have an area where they can

    create wrapping magic for

    holiday gifts, birthday pres-

    ents and other tokens of

    appreciation throughout the

    year. However, with limited

space, tall rolls of gift paper

may have been stashed in the

back of a closet or tucked

    under a bed, making them

inconvenient to use once it is

time to wrap gifts. With just a

few feet of space, anyone cancreate a compact gift wrap-

ping station that, while free of

    fancy bells and whistles, has

all thats needed to get the job

    done.

    The first step in creating

    your wrapping station is to

find a spot that is out of the

way but enables you to easily

    keep inventory of paper and

ribbons. The back of a door or

behind the door often pro-vides adequate space to store

supplies, and the width of a

door might be the right size

for the average roll of wrap-

ping paper. If the door is too

narrow, the rolls can be hung

    vertically instead of horizon-

    tally. Fortunately, gift wrap is

    narrow and doesnt take up

    much space on its own.

    Therefore, it usually can be

    tucked into a corner. Also,

    you just may have enough

    scrap materials around the

house to use to build your

wrapping station. If not, a trip

to the hardware store or home

    improvement center can gen-

    erally yield what you need.

    Wooden dowels are an

    inexpensive yet valuable sup-

    ply. Rolls of wrapping paper

can be slid on the dowels and

    hung horizontally on hooks

    protruding from a door or

    wall. For a vertical installa-

    tion, make a wooden frame

the width and length that will

be needed. Drill holes in the

frame on the top and bottom

    through which the dowels can

be fed. Then drill small holes

on the ends of the dowels. Use

    cabinet door handles or draw-

er pulls on the end that are

wider than the holes made in

    the wooden frame. This way

    the drawer pulls can be

    unscrewed at the top to

    remove the dowels and refill

with a fresh roll of paper.

    Then the knobs can be

    screwed back on to prevent

    the dowels from falling

through the wooden frame. Those who are a bit more

handy may want to paint and

attach a piece of plywood to

the door on hinges that can be

    folded up and locked into

place with a hook when not

needed, but then put down to

serve as a shelf on which the

wrapping can be done. Be sure

to have a shallow ledge that

    protrudes somewhat under the

shelf to offer support when the

shelf is in the open position.

    A separate dowel can

be used to keep rolls of rib-

    bon neat and within reach.

Scissors hung on a hook or

    attached to a string will

    ensure that youre never hunt-

ing for scissors under rolls of

    wrapping paper. It also keeps

the scissors safely out of reach

    of young children.

    If desired, a tape dis-

penser can be mounted on the

wall or door as well, enabling

    one-handed measuring and

    cutting of the tape.

    Get creative with your

    homemade wrapping station

    and then enjoy how efficient-

    ly you can wrap gifts.

    Winter is here! The

    cold weather

    either means

    weekends filled with sledding,

ice skating and skiing, or try-

    ing to hibernate until the

spring. Either way, this time of

    year can be particularly hard

    on our furry companions.

    There are many cold-weather

    related hazards for our pets,

    ranging from antifreeze con-

    sumption to hypothermia. As

    their caregivers, we need to

    take some extra precautions to

    ensure the safety and well-

    being of our pets.

    Keep your pet warm. Do

    not leave them outside for

    extended periods in the cold

    weather, as hypothermia is a

real hazard for pets. Be careful

    when exercising your pet out-

    doors, especially if they are

young, old or sick, since these

animals may have a more dif-

    ficult time maintaining their

    body heat. Watch carefully for

any signs that your pet is too

    cold when outdoors, which

    can include lethargy, refusing

    to walk and shivering. Some

pets may require a sweater or

    jacket to help keep them

    warm when walking in the

    cold. Never shave your dog

down to the skin in winter, as

    a longer coat will provide

    more warmth. With cats its

    easiest to just keep them

    indoors. In older dogs, the

    cold can also increase the

    discomfort of arthritis.

    Therefore, keep them warm

    and mainly indoors with short

    periods of outdoor exercise.

    Keep your pet away from

    antifreeze. Antifreeze con-

    tains ethylene glycol, which is

    extremely poisonous. It has a

    sweet taste and bright color,

    which attracts pets. Ingestion

of even tiny amounts can be

    lethal, usually from kidney

    failure. Make sure your pet

    and outdoor animals do not

    have access to antifreeze con-

    tainers. Clean up any spills

    immediately. If you suspect

    your pet has ingested

    antifreeze, contact your vet-

    erinarian immediately.

    Watch out for ice. Senior

    pets or pets with mobility

problems may find it hard to

    navigate safely on slippery sur-

faces. Take a different path, or

assist them if needed. Also try

to keep your pets paws free of

    snow, ice melt and winter

    chemicals. Snow packed

between your pets pads can be

    painful. Chemicals in the

road, or sidewalk salt to melt

ice, can irritate their paws and

    cause upset stomachs if ingest-

    ed. High concentrations of

    salt and other chemicals in

    these products can cause any-

    thing from mild irritation to

    chemical burns on your pets

paws. Be sure to wipe their

paws with a moist cloth when

    returning indoors. To prevent

    any issues, use dog

    booties as protection

    and a non-toxic ice

    melter like Safe Paws

    for your own side-

    walk. Another ice

    hazard is thin ice on

    lakes and ponds.

    Keep your pet away

    from lakes or other

bodies of water that may have

    thin ice.

    Adjust food intake to suit

    your pets winter activity

level. Pets that are outside or

do a large amount of activities

in the cold weather will need

    extra calories to keep warm.

But most pets dont get as

    much exercise in the cold

    winter months; therefore, be

sure to feed them a little less

    to prevent them from putting

    on extra weight.

    Put away your human

    medications. One hazard that

    is often overlooked by owners

    is the danger that accidental

    medication consumption pose

to our pets. With the winter

    months comes cold and flu

    season for humans, which

    generally means houses

    stocked with over-the-counter

    and prescription remedies. Be

sure to put these away after

    use to prevent accidental con-

    sumption.

Be safe for a fun and

    warm winter!

    Hear those holiday

    bells? Soon theyll

    be ringing in the

New Year. But befor e the

    clock strikes 2013, you have

    opportunities to reduce your

    2012 federal income tax bill.

    Heres a grab-bag of sugges-

    tions.

    1.Plan for the AMT. The

    annual exemption may

    change, but the usual triggers

    items that can create

    alternative minimum tax lia-

    bility, such as certain large

    deductions are the same.

    2.Education incentives.

    Prepaying qualifying expens-

es for the first semester of

2013 can get you a larger

    credit or deduction this year.

    3.Family gifts. Take advan-

    tage of the expiring $5.12

    million lifetime gift exclu-

    sion by sharing the wealth

    and the tax burden with

    lower-bracket family mem-

    bers.

    4.Deferred plans. Maximize

    contributions to retirement

plans such as your 401(k) or

    IRA, and fund other tax-

    favored accounts, such as

    health savings accounts.

    5.Charitable contributions.

    Gifts to qualified charities

made on your credit card by

    December 31 qualify for a

    deduction this year, even

    though youll receive the

    credit card statement in

    January.

    6.Itemized vs. standard

    deduction. Shift expenses

    such as property taxes

    between years to bunch

    deductions and get the most

    tax benefit.

    7.Disaster relief. Check for

    a potential refund, and con-

    sider amending your 2011

return to claim your loss if

    you live in a federally

    declared disaster area.

    8.Investment cost basis.

    Understand your cost basis

    choices before capturing cap-

    ital gains or losses, especially

    when selling mutual funds.

    9.Temporary depreciation

    deductions. Assets pur-

    chased for your business or

    rental property before year-

    end may qualify for acceler-

    ated depreciation methods

    that are scheduled to expire

    on Dec. 31.

    10.Kiddie tax. Instead of

    transferring assets to your

    children to save for future

    education expenses, consider

    contributing to a 529 plan,

    which can limit exposure to

    kiddie tax on unearned

    income.

    Contact us to discuss

    these and other tax-saving

    and planning ideas suited to

    your particular situation.

    is quite simple:

    We must all minimize our

    standards of living due to

    our reduced income after

    increased taxation.

We must reduce it further by

    over-funding our retirement

plans to offset the effects of

    massive inflation that is virtu-

    ally guaranteed to occur.

    We must maximize our sav-

    ings and investing in tax-free,

    tax-deferred and tax-advan-

    taged vehicles to effectively

    combat the unabated tax and

    spend opposition the govern-

    ment put in our path.

    Federal programs, today

    thought as entitlements, must

    be curtailed, reduced or elimi-

    nated, including Social

    Security and Medicare. Asset

    and Needs Analysis assess-

    ments will be implemented to

    determine eligibility even

    though people paid-in for their

    benefits. Committees will be

    formed to decide who will

    receive benefits and whose

    payments into the system will

    be reclassified as donations for

    others!

    This is my prediction. A

sad one, yes, but I believe it to

    be inevitable. I can visualize

my letter, coming in the mail

at age 67: Mr. Charnet, the

    government has determined

    that your retirement age has

been postponed to age 75. At

age 74 and 11 months, my

    final letter will appear in

    the mailbox: Congratulations,

    Citizen. It has been deter-

    mined that since you have

    accumulated a net worth, asset

    base and an annual income

    above the public median for

    your age, we have determined

    that your contributions into

    the system will be redirected

for the public good. This is an

    honor and you should feel

    proud to be an American!

The letter will be signed by the

    Committee for the Public

    Good and Welfare of

    America.

Hold on to your seats and

hats, folks; the ride down the

Fiscal Cliff is fast and furious.

My advice is to schedule an

    appointment with your finan-

cial advisor as soon as possible.

    Winter break can be

    the perfect respite

    for school-aged

    children. Although not quite

    halfway through the school

    year, the timing of winter

    break does come when kids

    might be preoccupied with

the holiday season and all that

    comes with it.

    Kids may be distracted

    about parties and presents, but

    parents may be preoccupied

    with finding ways their kids

    can spend their time during

    winter break a typically two-

    week hiatus from school

    that begins shortly before

    Christmas and ends with kids

    return to school shortly after

    New Years Day. Parents fac-

    ing the dilemma of finding

something for kids to do dur-

    ing winter break should con-

    sider the following tips.

    Take a vacation. Vacation is

    the easy way out. Winter

    break might mark the only

    time until summer that par-

    ents can spend quality time

    with their kids completely

    away from the distractions of

    everyday life. Vacation can

mean a trip to warmer cli-

    mates or simply packing up

the car to go spend time with

    the grandparents. If theres

    any vacation time to spare,

    consider hitting the road.

    Teach kids some practical

    lessons. Kids likely wont miss

    the classroom during winter

    break, but that doesnt mean

    there arent enjoyable ways for

    kids to learn while theyre

    away from school. Teach kids

    practical lessons, like how to

cook a favorite meal or how to

    fix things around the house.

This gives parents a chance to

    spend some quality time with

    their kids while encouraging

kids to learn beyond the class-

    room. And who knows, such

    lessons at home may uncover

    a childs hidden talent.

    Encourage kids to read for

    pleasure. Reading improves

    vocabulary and can stimulate

    a childs imagination. During

    the winter break, encourage

kids to read a book or the daily

    newspaper for pleasure, assur-

ing them there wont be any

    quizzes or tests after each

    chapter. Get the ball rolling

with a few books given as pres-

    ents during Christmas or

Chanukah. Or take a trip to

the local library and let kids

    choose their own books.

    Soak up some snow. Parents

    who work from home can

liven up the day during winter

    break by heading outside with

the kids to build a snowman or

    have a snowball fight. Moms

and dads will enjoy the break

from work while kids get some

    fun in the snow.

    Part of the enjoyment

of the holiday seasoninvolves spending time

    in the kitchen whipping up

    delicious treats. Particularly

    for young children, baking

    sugar cookies with Mom or

    Dad and then decorating the

creations can be a festive way

    to spend a day.

    Those short on time can

    turn to store-made sugar cookie

    dough for their cookie making,

but those who want theauthentic taste of cookies from

    scratch, there are many recipes

    from which to choose.

    This recipe for rolled sugar

    cookies produces cookies that

will hold up well to cutting and

    baking. Theyre also quite deli-

    cious.

    Rolled Sugar Cookies

    112 cups butter, softened

    3 cups white sugar4 eggs

    2 teaspoons vanilla extract

    5 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder1 teaspoon salt

    1.Cream together the butter

and sugar in a large bowl until

smooth. Beat in the eggs and

    vanilla.

    2.Mix the dry ingredients

together and add to the wet

    ingredients until incorporated.

    Cover and refrigerate the

dough for at least one hour.

    3.Preheat the oven to 400 F.

On a surface coated with someconfectioners sugar, roll out

the dough to between 14 and 12

    inch thickness (a thinner cook-

ie will be crispier). Cut out

    shapes with a cookie cutter.

    4.Line a cookie sheet with

    parchment paper. Place cookies

1 inch apart on the parchment.

    5.Bake around 5 to 7 minutes,

or just until the edges of the

    cookies start to brown. Remove

promptly from the cookie sheetand cool on a rack.

    6.Decorate the cookies using

    icing (recipe below)

when the cookiescool, or sprinkle with

    colored sugar while

    cookies are warm.

    Makes 5 dozen.

    Cookie Icing (Covers

    1 dozen cookies)

    1 cup confectioners

    sugar

    2 teaspoons milk

    2 teaspoons light corn

    syrup14 teaspoon almond

    extract

    Assorted food coloring

1.In a small bowl, stir together

    confectioners sugar and milk

    until smooth. Beat in corn

    syrup and almond extract until

icing is smooth and glossy. If

icing is too thick, add more

    corn syrup.

2.Divide the icing into separatecontainers to add choice of col-

    ors. Mix until well blended.

3.Use a piping tip and pastry

bag to outline the cookie in a

thin bead of the icing. Allow to

    dry.

4.Then use a paintbrush to fill

in the design with the remain-

    der of the icing.

5.Wait an hour or more for the

    icing to completely hardenbefore serving.

    Real estate investors

    have many reasonsfor making such

    investments, but one of the

    more common motives

behind a decision to invest in

a property is the belief that

    real estate rarely depreciates

    in value. Though the recent

    housing crisis might have

    debunked that myth once

and for all, real estate is still

    widely considered a sound

investment, one that manypeople wish they could afford

    to make.

    Those who have already

    invested in real estate know

how difficult it can be to

    maintain a property much

    less improve it, which should

be high on an investors pri-

    ority list. But improving a

    property does not have to

    involve a complete overhaul

or any other dramaticchanges. In fact, there are

    several simple ways investors

    can improve their real estate

    investments and improve

    their chances of turning a

    large profit when they decide

    to sell a property.

    Hire a property manage-

    ment firm. Some real estate

    investors, especially those

new to the business who just

purchased an investment andhave little money to spare,

shy away from hiring a prop-

    erty management firm. But

such a company is worth the

    expense for investors with lit-

    tle time or know-how with

regard to fixing a home. A

    property management firm

    will ensure the building is

    kept in shape, and depending

    on your agreement with the

company, may even take careof cleaning vacant apart-

    ments, readying them for

    showing and renting them to

    new tenants. Perhaps the

    biggest advantage to working

    with an effective property

    management firm is the like-

    lihood that they will turn

    over the vacant apartment

    quickly, ensuring you arent

    losing money when tenants

    move out.Carefully vet prospective

    tenants. One of the easiest

ways a property can fall into

disrepair is to allow bad ten-

ants to move into the build-

    ing. Its understandable that

investors want to get a build-

    ing occupied as quickly as

possible so they can use ten-

    cause damage to the property,

    and their behavior might

    encourage reliable fellow ten-

the chances you will find a
