A Better Covenant, a Better Salvation, a Better Gift Jason Moon
The book of Hebrews affirms the new covenant is better than the old. Heb. 8:6 says Jesus is the “Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.” In addi-tion, the sacrifice of Jesus is superior to the sacrifices of animals. Heb. 9:14 declares, “How much more shall the blood of Christ…cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the
living God?”
Today we are saved with something so much better than the system that involved bulls and goats that could not take away sin (Heb. 10:4). Therefore, it only stands to reason that
our level of giving should reflect our sincere appreciation for “the gift of God” (Rom. 6:23).
Under the Old Law the Jews gave a tithe or a tenth. Therefore, if we want to exceed that in our giving today, we’ll need to give beyond a tenth of our income in order to do so. The simple illustration below may help you determine exactly where you stand in your giving. The amount under each percentage shows the level of weekly giving based on the weekly/yearly income to the far left of the chart. Please prayerfully and honestly consider your level
of income and what your weekly giving would be if you exceed the O.T. tithe.

THE RESTORATION PLEA All of her life Olivia had been a strong believer in Christ, but her husband Samuel was somewhat of a skeptic. But now as she was dying, her husband leaned over her bed and said, “Libby, if you can find comfort in your faith then do so.” But she replied, “I can’t for I have no more faith.” The Olivia of that event was Olivia Langdon Clemens and her husband was Samuel Clemens, the great Mark Twain. His skepticism had destroyed her faith. His skepticism was due in part to the division that existed among those who professed to be followers of Christ. Twain had remarked one time that if you placed three animals that were considered natural enemies into a single cage they would get along better than the preachers from any three denominations. Prior to the arrest and trial of Jesus, He prayed to His Father saying, “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 "that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me” (John 17:20, 21 NKJV). Jesus knew that the unity of believers was an aid in helping people to believe and that division was an aid in leading people to unbelief. There have been numerous divisions since that time and skepticism has never been so strong. In the latter part of the 18th century men began making a plea to return to the ancient order of things, to call Bible things by Bible names and to do Bible things in Bible ways. The restoration movement was the greatest religious happening in America but in sub-sequent years there have been those who began to deny the need for a restoration. Some have said that even if it was possible it would not be desirable. But the plea is desirable and it is still possible. The word “restoration” implies that an original existed and was lost. It implies that a pattern existed and that pattern could and should be restored. Without a pattern the work of restoration would be near impos-sible and a person could never know if he had suc-ceeded in the restoration efforts. If a home were heav-ily damaged or completely destroyed then one could not restore that house to its original appearance if he did not have a pattern, a blueprint or a picture of that house. Through various apostasies the church has been so alter with many denominations arising in its place that the church, as it was originally, became lost. Is it possible to restore the church to its original state? It is if there is a blueprint available. God has given us the plan for His church in the New Testament. That blueprint from the Bible provides us with all we need to restore His church.
