From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist, Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973.

Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song &

praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

If you are visiting and worshipping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled.

We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

(If you’d like more information about us or would like to join our Community, please fill out the form on the back cover and drop it in the collection basket!)

NOTE: If the form on the back is missing, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, address and we’ll contact you about joining us.

Marianist Doxology May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places

through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

STEWARDSHIP & GIVING

Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time: “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” (Matthew 23:12). Jesus gave His life to serve, not to be served. Putting other’s needs before our own needs is a sign of becoming a mature disciple, of following Jesus’ example. Humility is really a sign of a strength. By putting other’s needs first we declare to the world that we are putting our complete trust in God. When we align our thoughts and actions with God’s plan for us, the result is Joy and Peace.

Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time

Malachi 1:14b-2:2b, 8-10: Malachi’s complaint (placed on God’s lips) is that the priests have neglected their duty to preach the Torah (the law) with fidelity and good example. Thus they have voided the covenant with Levi, the priestly tribe of Israel, and are responsible for the erosion of faith among the people.

1 Thessalonians 2:7b-9, 13: Paul’s combination of self-sufficiency and sincere regard for the spiritual welfare of his flock makes us see him as the ideal apostle, preaching and teaching in the most effective way imaginable. He has personal integrity and credibility because what he has received as a gift he gives us as a gift. The effect is that the people of Thessalonica accept the gospel as the word of God, not as the message of a human being.

Matthew 23:1-12: Jesus is speaking of bad leaders and bad leadership. There is no justification here whatsoever for presuming that all the scribes and Pharisees of Jesus’ time were hypocritical. In fact, and this is borne out by the gospels, the vast majority of the religious leaders were good and faithful servants of God’s law and God's people. All things considered, this reading nevertheless gives us an extremely powerful and useful message about religious leadership, relevant for all time.

Ministers Taking Eucharist to Those Not With Us

Presider: Let us send these ministers to those who could not be with us.

Response: Receive the Body of Christ for the nourishment of those who are not here with us. Assure our friends of our prayers and blessings throughout the week.

FAVORITE QUOTE: "Let all creation help you to praise God. Give yourself the rest you need. When you are walking alone, listen to the sermon preached to you by the flowers, the trees, the shrubs, the sky, the sun and the whole world. Notice how they preach to you a sermon full of love, of praise of God, and how they invite you to proclaim the greatness of the one who has given them being." ~ St. Paul of the Cross
