Dear Parishioners, It has come to my attention that there are individuals and couples who are receiving Holy Communion who are living
together and not married through the Church. If you are having sex with someone to whom you are not married to
through the Church, you are committing the sin of fornication. A civil marriage is not the Sacrament of Marriage.
Fornication is a mortal sin and receiving Holy Communion with a mortal sin on your soul is called sacrilege. Sacrilege is
the abuse of something that is sacred, and there is nothing more sacred than the Body of Christ.
Also, we as Catholics should not go to the civil weddings of those who are Catholic and who should get married through
the Church. We can go to the civil marriages of two non-Catholics. If we go to the civil wedding of a Catholic we are
serving as witnesses to people willingly entering into a relationship of fornication. This is a mortal sin on their part and
our part. Our decisions have consequences and we cannot support any action that is sinful, even if it is a child, friend, or
family member getting married civilly who should be getting married through the church.
That being said, there is almost nothing to prevent anyone from getting married through the Church, so please talk to
me about getting married. Lent is a time to correct our sinfulness and if we remain in our sinfulness we will be judged by
God for our unwillingness to change our actions and seek conversion.
If we have a mortal sin on our soul we are not in communion with God and the Church because of our own decisions.
Since we are in not communion with God we cannot receive Holy Communion. It's all about relationship and confession
heals that relationship. We will have a penance service on Friday, April 3rd at 6 PM where the bishop and several priests
will come to help us be in communion with God and one another through the Sacrament of Confession.
I pray that this Season of Lent challenges us to change our sinful ways, turn to God, and live out the holiness to which
God has called us.
In the Joy of Christ,
Fr. Philip Brune
Padre Felipe Brune

All Altar Servers and Parents,
As we enter the Lenten Season, we are reminded of the sacrifice and temptations our Lord went
through for 40 days. Let us keep this in our hearts and minds as we are asked to serve in our
ministry. Thank you for the sacrifice each time you make it to our practices as well as serving at
Mass when you are scheduled. I also know that there may be temptations to not come to practice or
to not serve at Mass, but let us overcome these temptations. I pray we will continue to grow
spiritually in our commitment to our ministry as altar servers with the support of our parents. During
Lent, we will have practice every Wednesday starting March 4th, 18th, 25th and April 1st. at 5:00 PM.
Let us commit to growth in spirit, mind, and service as we attend each practice.
With God’s Grace,
Adrian Canales
Comprometámonos a
Adrian Canales
