VCS – Vertical Connection System

■ Only lightweight ROV tools

■ Increased safety – no handling of large

tooling offshore

■ Multiple jumper installations can be

performed with connection tools remaining

subsea

■ Seal protected in upper hub/connector and

replaceable without retrieving the jumper

■ Increased vessel flexibility:

■ Multiple jumper installations w/ tools

remaining subsea

■ Deploy jumpers from one vessel – a second

vessel for making up connectors

■ Minimum onshore and offshore crew

required

VCS – Installation sequence

■ ± 8 deg alignment capacity for rigid jumpers and up to ± 15 deg for flexible/umbilical

■ Qualified to 3650m

■ Fast installation; 3-5 hours per jumper (landing + connecting + back seal test)

4/15/2014 Tie-in & Structures Slide 13

Step 1: Initial guiding of connector Step 2: Connector landed on IB hub Step 3: Torque tool make up connector

HCS - Horizontal Connection System

■ Only lightweight ROV tools

■ Multiple jumper installations can be

performed with connection tools remaining

subsea

■ Seal Replacement and Hub cleaning

without retrieving the jumper

■ Allow retrieval of XT/ manifold without

removal of the spool/jumper

■ Designed for installation without guide

wire

■ 1st and 2nd end connections are identical

■ High Load capacity

■ Fast Installation; ~ 6 hours per connection

Horizontal systems (HCS) Vertical systems (VCS)

Horizontal vs. Vertical Connections

■ Both shallow and deep waters

■ Allow retrieval of XT/ manifold without

removal of the spool/jumper

■ Preferred solution for large bore

connections where height are of

importance

■ Hydrate prevention – drainage of

production jumpers

■ Preferred solution in fishing areas

■ Primarily used in deep water (no

protection structures)

■ Preferred installation method, quicker &

easier to install

■ Easy jumper design

■ Do not require pull-in or stroke tool

■ Easier to stack several vertical jumpers

on the vessels

■ Typical assignments: Product design and development, producing engineering documents, Supplier

visits and follow up, assisting lead engineer in maintaining MDL and ITP

■ Experience from Norway: ■ “Coming to Norway was my first time travelling outside Ghana. I had many fears, especially

about the weather. I’m happy to say I now feel completely settled here. The reception from

Aker was particularly helpful. Everyone offered advice and that really helped. At Aker, I have

been encouraged to participating in many fun activities such as Gokart racing, sledging and

Cross-country skiing. I’m also developing my Norwegian language skills through and Aker

sponsored language course”

■ Thoughts about Aker solutions & the Subsea Industry: ■ “My experience within the subsea industry with Aker so far has been very enlightening. I’m

continually challenged by my tasks and high quality solutions within the company. What I find

particularly helpful is the ease with which you can get help. Everyone is approachable and

willing to help and this has really helped my development as an engineer”
