The SolutionTests show that Altro Whiterock is 100% watertight, unlike tiled surfaces.

The advent of PVCu sheet wall cladding provides a decorative and practical alternative to ceramic tiles. Being impervious, the product can be used practically anywhere. Showers and kitchens in particular benefit from the watertight, wipe clean surface that the system provides. Unlike a tiled surface there is no grout involved, so dirt and bacteria have nowhere to hide. Also, water can’t seep through to the substrate behind – a problem that can

cause major structural damage to any building.

Unfortunately, it’s not something you can rely on when specifying ceramic tiles. Figures published by the

Ceramic Tile Federation reveal that up to 65% of all tile installations are fixed incorrectly.

Irresponsible installation can cause serious problems in shower and kitchen areas. Tile manufacturers and

Food Regulations specify that both water resistant adhesives and epoxy grouts should be used in these areas.

Elizabeth Morgan, Director of Springtime Aged Care a 50 bed facility recently commented that their wall maintenance budget went from $18,000 pa to $42,000 pa after some new mobility aids were introduced, this was accidental staff related damage.

Once Whiterock was introduced into the area that damage and ongoing maintenance cost was eliminated, providing a saving of $42,000 per annum. The one off upfront cost of installing Whiterock for this area was $9,000.

Slips and tripsBeing responsible for the management of public and private buildings and

Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) HACCP is an international system for food safety

management. It is a legal requirement in Europe

under EC Regulation 852/2004. HACCP requires

a risk assessment for every food preparation area

identifying “critical points” where food safety

hazards could arise. Hazards include:

• Contamination by staff or poorly maintained fittings or equipment

• Chemical, physical or allergenic risks, caused by ingredients, handling,

equipment or fittings, including floors and walls

You can reduce hazard risk and keep inspections to a minimum by selecting

HACCP International.

Manual1. Sweep and/or vacuum dust and other debris.

2. Apply an approved detergent, diluted to manufacturer’s recommendations. Leave on floor for approximately five minutes.

3. If and when required scrub with deck scrubber.

4. Wet vacuum or mop residue.

5. Thoroughly rinse with warm, clean water to ensure that the surface PH of the flooring is neutral (PH7).

6. Allow to dry.

Note: Do not use detergents containing pine oil

individual tile failure. And because there are fewer problems, there is less need to spend time and money inspecting surfaces.

The Story

Altro uncovered a member of a market-leading national chain of retail

supermarkets that had been built in 1973. The delicatessen area still had

the original Altro safety flooring down. Altro decided to test it to see exactly

how the slip resistance has stood up after all these years. So Altro called an

independent test house to conduct a slip resistance Pendulum Test.

As per Australian Standards, the test was conducted in 5 separate areas

around the floor; including right in front of the chicken cooker that daily

challenges flooring surfaces. With its radiated heat and hot chicken fat it is

one of the most dangerous parts of the floor for slips. The official result for

the test was 46, qualifying the floor as a Class W or Low Risk of Slippage.

So, even after 35 years of non-stop use, the Altro Safety Flooring is still

performing as well as the day it went in!
