U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance

Columbus, OH --(Ammoland.com)- The Tucson-based Center for

Biological Diversity (CBD) is no novice when it comes to lawsuits.

The CBD has filed numerous lawsuits in the past decade against the

federal government and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service over perceived

endangered species.

From tiny fish to frogs to polar bears, if it’s alive, it’s possibly included in

a CBD lawsuit. This tactic does sometimes backfire.

Seems when the CBD decided to sue the U.S. Forest Service about cattle

grazing allotments in 2002, it accused Arizona ranchers Jim and Sue

Chilton of stewardship abuse.

The Chilton’s legally grazed their cattle on a ranching allotment in Pima

County, Arizona, according to a report printed last year in Western Farm

Press. The CBD sued the U.S. Forest Service to end the Chilton’s cattle

grazing allotment and claimed the Chilton’s mismanaged the land where

some possible threatened or endanger species resided.

Apparently no one at the CBD contacted the Chilton’s, who

woke up one morning and read their name and the

accusations in a local newspaper.

Experts soon noted the Chilton’s followed grazing guidelines. The

Chilton’s filed suit against the CBD for defamation and libel—and won.

As a result, the CDB had to pay the ranchers $600,000.

On Heels of Anti’s LawsuitMaine Seeks TrappingProtection for State & TrappersNOV 10, 2011 02:11P.M.

On Heels of Anti’s Lawsuit Maine Seeks Trapping Protection

for State & Trappers

U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance

Columbus, OH --(Ammoland.com)- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

(USFWS) has formally announced that it is considering issuing an

incidental take permit to Maine’s Department of Inland Fisheries and

Wildlife.

This allows for the accidental take of a small number of Canada lynx in

traps set by sportsmen for other legal species.

This is the latest step in a long battle against anti-trapping groups who

have attempted to use the Canada lynx’s status as threatened under the

Endangered Species Act (ESA) to ban trapping in the state.

In 2006 and 2008, anti-trapping groups sued the state seeking to stop

Maine’s trapping season by claiming that the protected Canada lynx

might accidentally be caught by a trapper while attempting to trap other

legal species.

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation (USSAF), along with the

Maine Trappers’ Association, Fur Takers of America, National Trappers’

Association, and several individual sportsmen, intervened in the cases,

ultimately winning a landmark victory for trapping in the state. At the

same time, this sets a legal precedent nationally that makes it harder for

antis to use the ESA to try and ban hunting, fishing, or trapping.

An incidental take permit issued by the USFWS would help shield the

state from similar lawsuits seeking to shut down trapping. The permit

would allow the state, and licensed trappers, to accidentally trap a small

number of Canada lynx, when trapping for other legal species, without

being in violation of the ESA. Essentially, the permit would recognize

that a few accidentally caught Canada lynx do not threaten the species’

3

ability to survive and recover.

Without the permit, anytime a Canada lynx is accidentally caught in a

trap, it is a violation of the ESA by the trapper, even if the animal is

released unharmed. To be clear, the permit does not allow for the

intentional trapping of Canada lynx but would act to protect the state

and trappers who might accidentally trap one while trapping for other

legal species. The permit would also include a cap on the total number of

lynx that could be accidentally trapped.

The USFWS will seek and review public comments before making a final

decision on the incidental take permit. It can then choose to approve the

permit as written, deny the permit, or approve the permit with additional

restrictions on trapping within the state.

“Maine has already enacted strict rules and reporting

requirements for trappers in the state to help ensure that

Canada lynx are not accidentally caught in traps,” said

Jeremy Rine, USSAF associate director of state services. “

We hope that the Fish and Wildlife Service will grant Maine’s

request for the incidental take permit without any new,

unnecessary restrictions on trappers.”

Armalite Annouces SPR Mod 1Rifles in New CalibersNOV 10, 2011 01:26P.M.

Armalite Annouces SPR Mod 1 Rifles in New Calibers

7.62X39mm & 6.8mm SPC II

Armalite SPR Mod 1 7.62X39mm Rifle

ArmaLite Inc

Geneseo, IL – -(Ammoland.com)- ArmaLite’s “History of Innovation”

continues!

The originator of the AR platform has turned its popular M-15 SPR Mod

1 system into a “Family of Calibers.”

ArmaLite’s Mod 1 carbine started as a .223/5.56mm carbine built around

a revolutionary one-piece upper receiver/rail system with exclusive

detachable side and bottom rails.

This year, ArmaLite goes a step further, introducing the SPR Mod 1

6.8mm SPC II and the SPR Mod 1 7.62X39mm. Both mid-length

carbines continue the “ArmaLite Standard of Excellence.”

ArmaLite’s SPR Mod 1 6.8 is especially well-suited to hunting. It is

powerful enough to meet the minimum energy requirements of many

states for taking medium sized game such as deer. At the same time, the

6.8mm is lighter than the 7.62×51, reducing the weight of ammunition

carried into the field. As part of the AR-platform family, this carbine is

also more versatile and ergonomic than traditional hunting models. The

Mod 1 6.8mm is built with the ArmaLite-developed mid-length

handguard and gas system to provide the best in form and function.

ArmaLite’s SPR Mod 1 7.62X39mm provides all the flexibility of the Mod

1’s one piece upper receiver/rail system but now for the world’s most

available cartridge. The original AK-47 was built to use this cartridge.

Now, enthusiasts of the 7.62X39 won’t have to settle for less than the

best: a true ArmaLite carbine. The ArmaLite designed mid-length

handguard and gas tube technology provides an optimal gas pulse to

power the 16″ system so reliability is never an issue.

More on the SPR Mod 1 platform:

The SPR Mod 1 is forged, one-piece upper receiver/rail system with

exclusive detachable side and bottom rails.

In true ArmaLite fashion, the SPR Mod 1 is like no other on the market.

With other one-piece systems, you’re stuck forever with the rails you get

at purchase, and stuck with their limits.

But ArmaLite knows you and your firearm often have more than one

mission, and you want options. ArmaLite gives you just that. The SPR

Mod 1′s three o’clock, six o’clock, and nine o’clock rails are detachable.

That’s right, you can change your 1913 rails to fit your changing needs for

sights… lights…lasers…grips…or swivels.

ArmaLite takes that versatility even further. Each SPR Mod 1 comes with

extra rails standard, at no extra cost. We give you a 1913 rail with quick

detachable sling swivel hole. Each rifle comes with a low insert for when

you need a bare rail with a low profile. There’s also a plain insert with a

quick detach sling swivel hole. And there is a half plain, half Picatinny

rail as well. Changing your rails…your add-ons…and your SPR Mod 1… is

as easy as turning a torx wrench.

Ingenious versatility isn’t the only reason you’ll want an SPR Mod 1. Its

one-piece construction offers you a continuous optic platform (COP).

There’s no gap to bridge between receiver and upper rail when you’re

installing your scope or sights. This one-piece construction also gives the

sighting platform extra rigidity. It’s a good, strong backbone. That means

your sights will stay zeroed in the most trying conditions.

The SPR Mod 1 typifies the “ArmaLite Standard of Excellence.” With us,

quality comes standard. There’s no extra charge for: the SPR Mod 1′s

chrome lined, chrome moly vanadium steel barrel; its two-stage tactical

trigger; the patented, extra strength steel bolt assembly; or the hard

coated finish. These are all things that the other companies consider

options at an added cost.

The introduction of the new ArmaLite SPR Mod 1 is truly a new chapter

in our history of innovation and our dedication to the quality you

New Jersey 2010 Black BearHarvest DataNOV 10, 2011 01:11P.M.

New Jersey 2010 Black Bear Harvest Data

A 496lb eleven year old bear tops the list.

New Jersey Fish and Game

Trenton, NJ --(Ammoland.com)- The 2010 Black Bear Hunting

Season, held December 6-11, 2010 resulted in a total legal harvest of 592

black bears.

The season was held concurrently with the 6-Day Firearm Deer Season

and was open in the area north of Rt. I-78 and west of Rt. I-287.

Hunters were required to check all harvested bears at check stations

staffed by Division of Fish and Wildlife personnel. Data, including sex,

weight and size were collected, and a tooth was extracted for aging by

Matson’s Lab, a wildlife laboratory offering cementum (tooth) aging.

The document linked below provides information on harvested bears.

The bears are listed according to the number on the Possession Seal

attached to each bear’s ear at the check station. The seal numbers are

listed numerically, preceded by the letter “B” in the seal number which

signifies the color of the seal (blue) for the 2010 season.

Several of the listed animals currently do not have ages associated with

them. These teeth may have failed to provide sufficient age information

or are still at our lab being analyzed.

The table will be updated as we receive any new age data from Matson’s

Lab. Some animals also do not have their weight listed for one of a

variety of reasons; “n/a” indicates the data is not available.

Meeting Results

New Jersey Second Amendment Society

New Jersey --(Ammoland.com)- First of all, I would like to that the

owners and staff of South Jersey Shooting Club for once again hosting a

meeting of our Society.

The people at SJSC, especially Art Barton and Dan Walker, have been

tireless and loyal supporters of the NJ2AS since we started.

Thanks to Anthony Colandro of Gun for Hire firearms training centers

for the introduction to these wonderful people.

I would also like to thank Chet Wilson of ShootNJ firearms training for

donating some terrific prizes for the meeting. Chet and his crew,

including Dawn and Grant have always been and continue to be there for

us. We are very fortunate to have attracted such great friends and

supporters.

I want to thank Mr. Frank Virgilio, President of the NJ State Federation

of Sportsman’s Clubs for his fine presentation at our meeting last night.

His discussion of how to conduct yourself in the event of an encounter

with law enforcement officials was of particular value to *ALL* New

Jersey citizens.

And last, but most DEFINITELY not least, I would like to thank all of the

members and guests who came to the meeting to support their Society.

You folks are what this Society is all about. Another valuable lesson that

we learned from Frank Virgilio last night is that there is STRENGTH in

numbers. His group is able to influence FAVORABLE legislation for

Sportsmen in New Jersey BECAUSE they have been able to garner the

support of Hundreds of THOUSANDS of NJ Sportsmen.

Fast and Furious was Never aBotched OperationNOV 10, 2011 01:01P.M.

Fast and Furious was Never a Botched Operation

Fast and Furious did exactly what it was designed to do, set up the

Second Amendment as the fall guy.

Montana Shooting Sports Association

Missoula, MT --(Ammoland.com)- The BATFEEE [Bureau of Alcohol,

Tobacco, Firearms, Explosives, And Everything Else] gunrunning fiasco

that delivered thousands of U.S. firearms to Mexican drug cartels,

operation Fast and Furious, is commonly referred to in the media as a

“botched” federal operation.

Let’s be clear about this.

Fast and Furious was NOT “botched.”

It did exactly what it was intended to do. It delivered thousands of

untraced U.S. guns to criminals at the behest of the BATFEEE and with

the knowledge and assumed approval of top Justice Department and

other administration officials.

Why? To set the stage for more gun control, of course.

The would-be tyrants in the federal government would love to disarm us

all, to make us defenseless slaves to the federal government, as did every

government that committed genocide during the 1900s before

slaughtering 165 million human beings. However, further restrictions on

the right to bear arms won’t fly in the current political climate without

agitprop headlines, headlines federal officials hoped to supply with Fast

and Furious.

So, let’s call a spade a spade. Fast and Furious was purely an anti-

freedom political operation – a poorly-executed Reichstag fire intended

to erode the liberty that the people have reserved to themselves from

government interference in the Constitution.

If you or I had done what BATFEEE officials did “under color of law,”

we’d be on our way to federal prison. The only thing “botched” about

Fast and Furious has been the scurrilous attempt by the perpetrating

cockroaches to run for cover when the lights came on.

Majority of Sporting LicensesPurchased at Local RetailersNOV 10, 2011 12:45P.M.

Majority of Sporting Licenses Purchased at Local Retailers

Game Regulations Booklets still Remain Popular with Sportsmen.

Southwick Associates

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fl --(Ammoland.com)- As state game

agencies around the country employ the internet to make hunting and

fishing licenses easier for sportsmen to buy and information on sporting

regulations simpler to obtain.

But the traditional route of purchasing a license at a local retailer before

heading outdoors remains a popular option.

Research conducted by HunterSurvey.com and AnglerSurvey.com found

that 58 percent of those hunters surveyed still purchase their licenses

through a retailer, while 61 percent of surveyed anglers bought theirs at a

local store as well. Retailers often count on their role as a sporting license

vendor to lead to additional sales of hunting- and fishing-related

equipment when consumers visit to buy a permit.

Game agency efforts at using the internet have not gone unrewarded

however, and there is plenty of evidence that a sizable number of

sportsmen appreciate the convenience on-line availability provides. As

many as 24 percent of hunters and 25 percent of surveyed anglers

reported purchasing licenses online. Additionally, more than 17 percent

of hunters and just over 14 percent of fishermen bought permits directly

through a game agency or government office or through some other

source. Of 5,750 hunters and shooters surveyed, 90 percent said they

had either purchased a license or planned to purchase a license this year.

Nearly that same percentage of the 2,391 anglers surveyed had either

purchased or planned to purchase a license.

“This indicates a real win-win for game departments,

sporting goods retailers and sportsmen,” said Rob Southwick,

president of Southwick Associates, which designs and

conducts the surveys at HunterSurvey.com,

ShooterSurvey.com and AnglerSurvey.com.

“The traditional experience of going to the sporting goods

store to buy a license and other key items before the season

or a big trip can still be had, while those seeking the ultimate

in convenience, particularly when making a last-minute

purchase when a store might otherwise be far away or closed,

is also available. It’s always a good thing for consumers to

have options that make participating in hunting and fishing

easier, particularly when a lack of that convenience might

make them less likely to engage in the activities they enjoy.”

Even with every state game agency in the country now providing

regulations, season dates, bag limits and other hunting and fishing

information online, as well as the popularity of digital products such as

websites, apps, mobile phones and smart tablets, it is interesting to note

that the printed regulations book remains a critical resource to today’s

hunter and angler.

More than 84 percent of surveyed hunters said they had received or

expect to receive the regulations booklet. Of that number, a whopping 96

percent said they have read or plan to read the booklet, with more than

54 percent revealing they read it more than once and nearly 24 percent

citing they use it as a resource throughout the season.

On the fishing side, 89 percent of survey respondents said they have read

or plan to read the regulations booklet, with more than 54 percent

revealing they read it more than once and 17 percent saying they use it as

a resource all season.

To help continually improve, protect and advance the shooting sports

and outdoor recreation, all sportsmen and sportswomen are encouraged

to participate in the surveys at HunterSurvey.com, ShooterSurvey.com

and AnglerSurvey.com. Each month, participants who complete the

survey are entered into a drawing for one of five $100 gift certificates to

the sporting goods retailer of their choice.

Experimental Status Lifted on Smoky Mountains Elk

Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation

MISSOULA, Mont. --(Ammoland.com)- Great Smoky Mountains

National Park officials have notified the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation

that the “experimental” status of the park’s restored elk herd has been

officially lifted, clearing the way for permanent management of elk in

and around the park.

RMEF is the largest financier of the park’s 10-year elk restoration

project, with more than $800,000 in contributions.

Kim Delozier, RMEF conservation program manager, said,

“This is important because it’s a formal federal declaration

that our elk restoration efforts in the North Carolina section

11

of the park have been deemed a success.”

Prior to joining the RMEF staff, Delozier was the longtime supervisory

wildlife biologist in the park. He worked closely with RMEF and others

to make reality of a common dream–returning a wild elk herd to the

native but long-empty habitat of the Great Smoky Mountains. He says

that without the efforts of RMEF, especially its volunteers, wild free-

ranging elk would not be in North Carolina today.

Elk were extirpated from the region some 200 years ago.

“Local RMEF members approached me about elk restoration

as far back as 1990, so this has been a long process and a

tremendous amount of work by many people,” said Delozier.

“During my time in the park, we had a number of restoration

projects for other species. Some were controversial. Others

were relatively quiet. But the elk project was really a people

project. This was an effort and animal that everyone wanted

to support. The people made it happen. People love to see

large wild animals and elk fit that need.”

In an “experimental release,” the first elk were reintroduced into Great

Smoky Mountains National Park in 2001. Today the herd is healthy at

about 140 animals.

Elk have been a popular addition to the park and are associated with

significant economic benefits through tourism. Cataloochee Valley,

where elk were originally released, now receives approximately twice the

visitation than it did prior to elk restoration.

The herd’s experimental status was lifted when National Park Service

officials on Oct. 20, 2011, approved a “finding of no significant impact” of

the environmental assessment on a proposed plan for managing a

permanent herd of elk in the park. Research indicates that the

population is sustainable, has minimal impacts on the park’s resources

and the human-elk conflicts are manageable.

Going forward, the park’s objective is to maintain a permanent elk

population within park boundaries that is self-sustaining and allows only

acceptable impacts to park resources.

The park’s elk plan also transitions elk management responsibility

outside the park to the appropriate tribal, state or federal agency with

jurisdiction over wildlife on lands where elk occur. Delozier said some

elk do currently inhabit areas outside of park boundaries. The North

Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission has started discussions on

developing its own elk management plan, which could bring limited elk

hunting opportunities to the state in the future.

David Allen, RMEF president and CEO, said, “The possibility

of additional elk hunting opportunities for the public in the

eastern U.S. is one more reason to celebrate. The more people

can connect through hunting with the land, elk, other wildlife

and their habitat, the more folks we’ll have on board to help

sustain America’s conservation movement.”

Allen added that RMEF has pledged continued support for area

conservation agencies involved in elk management or habitat

stewardship.

About the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation:

RMEF is leading a conservation initiative that has protected or enhanced

habitat on over 6 million acres–an area larger than Yellowstone, Grand

Canyon, Glacier, Yosemite, Rocky Mountain and Great Smoky

Mountains national parks combined. RMEF also is a strong voice for

hunters in access, wildlife management and conservation policy issues.

RMEF members, partners and volunteers, working together as Team

Elk, are making a difference all across elk country. Join us at

Zimbabwe – Guns Save Lives & Citizens Need To Be Armed

By Collen Makumbirofa

Foundation for Reason & Justice

AmmoLand Editors Notes: There are widespread reports of

systematic and escalating violations of human rights in

Zimbabwe under the Mugabe administration and his party,

the ZANU-PF.

According to human rights organizations such as Amnesty

International and Human Rights Watch the government of

Zimbabwe violates the rights to shelter, food, freedom of

movement and residence, freedom of assembly and the

protection of the law. There have been alleged assaults on

the media, the political opposition, civil society activists, and

human rights defenders.

Opposition gatherings are frequently the subject of brutal

attacks by the police force, such as the crackdown on a 11

March 2007 Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) rally

and several others during the 2008 election campaign.[79]

In the attacks of 2007, party leader Morgan Tsvangirai and

49 other opposition activists were arrested and severely

beaten by the police.

AmmoLand Gun News

Zimbabwe, Africa --(Ammoland.com)- It is always a humanistic and

pagan concept of peace that citizens should not be armed to protect their

wives, children and property from criminals.

It cannot be disputed with success that guns save innocent lives from

assailants. In Zimbabwe people are being abducted and murdered or

tortured by state sponsored criminals. Women are being raped by state

sanctioned militias. Tight gun control laws have left millions of

Zimbabweans virtual unarmed and more vulnerable to criminals.

ZANU PF terrorist and criminals were able to commit genocide in 1983

because the Ndebele people were not armed. If the Ndebele’s were armed

that could have saved many innocent lives. Today, Zimbabwe will not be

mourning 40,000 Ndebeles who died in genocide. Often victims of

genocide are disarmed citizens.

Immaturity blinds us from seeing long term consequence’s of certain

ideas. Surrendering the right to self-defense is tantamount to

committing suicide. Most genocides are preceded by ‘Gun Control’ laws.

In Rwanda the Tusti’s were disarmed before being massacred. Its better

to get a Civil War than to get genocide. The truth is that many people die

in genocide than civil war. Self-defense is honorable and Holy. Love

must compel us to provide security to children, women and our

neighbor. The wicked shall always be there and God has not left us at the

mercy of these criminals. Our lives are precious to God. Self-defense is

Biblical. Guns are good, if properly used they prevent rape, robbery and

murder such as is going on in Zimbabwe.

The new MDC government upon assuming office must allow citizens to

be armed. Potential tyrants do not want citizens to be armed. The

modern government like a god is jealous of its power and does not want

strong families and defensive communities.

Pacifism is Wrong.

God is not a pacifist nor was Jesus a pacifist as the rebellious, modern

Church depicts Him. Jesus commanded his disciples to be armed with

swords for their defense from bandits. Many people try to spiritualise

this, but before long we see Peter using the sword in John 18:10. In verse

11, Jesus commanded Peter to put the sword in its proper place, this,

clearly show that Peter was used to carry this sword. Peter was rebuked

because he wanted to use the sword to defend the Lord, Jesus Christ.

You can defend yourself or your neighbor not Christ who could send a

legion to crush His enemies. Furthermore the disciples did not wait for

Jesus to answer them, “Lord shall we strike with the Sword?” Luke

22:49.

In the Bible God is depicted as a warrior or lion of the tribe of Judah. If

God is not a pacifist, therefore, His children cannot be pacifists. It is

immaturity to blame knives and guns which can be used for good – self-

defense. Any nation that deny the truth about self-defense and guns will

end up being enslaved and abused by dictators.

ZANU PF GOVERNMENT LEADERS IN ZIMBABWE are

wicked and evil that is why they are making Zimbabweans

suffer. Tens of thousands of Zimbabweans have been

Thousands of opposition officials, individuals have been

MSNBC Analyst and Hard NewsAnchors Attack SecondAmendmentNOV 10, 2011 10:10A.M.

MSNBC Analyst and Hard News Anchors Attack Second

Amendment

Freedom Hating MSNBC News Analyst Alex Wagner

AmmoLand Gun News

Washington DC - -(Ammoland.com)- So far this month, two MSNBC

personalities —Alex Wagner and Craig Melvin— have twice mocked or

otherwise maligned the Second Amendment and the people who look to

it as a bedrock guarantee of the right to keep and bear arms.

In one instance, Wagner even called for us to “get rid of the second

Amendment” altogether and to bid adieu to “the right to bear arms.”

If you’re thinking that you’ve never heard of either Wagner or Melvin,

that’s okay, no one else has either; they’re on MSNBC, for Pete’s sake.

Anyway, MSNBC or not, the two mental heavyweights each made some

statements that are so ludicrous they must either flow from raw

ignorance or an ideologically-driven arrogance that is unimaginable to

the average American.

For example, on November 1st, Melvin was guest hosting News Nation

when he tried to take Spartanburg, S.C. Sheriff Chuck Wright to task for

suggesting women in Spartanburg should arm themselves to defend

against would-be rapists. In fact, the Sheriff not only suggested getting a

weapon, but actually used a press conference to describe the best kinds

of handguns women should consider carrying: “They got one called ‘The

Judge’ that shoots a .45 or a .410 shell. [With it] you ain’t gotta be

accurate. You just gotta get close.”

Asked Melvin: “If women are shooting potential attackers, aren’t they

presuming guilt before innocence? What if a woman kills an attacker?

Isn’t that opening another whole legal can of worms?”

Sheriff Wright responded: “Well, it’s easy to fix that. Just don’t attack a

woman.”

(Can I get a quick YEEHAW! out of anybody?)

Anyway, Melvin couldn’t handle this and went on to give the impression

that he wasn’t sure individual Americans needed guns because we have

policemen who can take care of us.

And earlier this week, it was Wagner who responded to Bill Maher’s

question, “What would you change in the Constitution?” by

saying:

Well, I’m going to be pilloried for this. I think get rid of the second

Amendment, the right to bear arms. I just think in the grand scheme of

the rights that we have; the right of assembly, free speech, I mean,

owning a gun does not, it does not tally on the same level as those other

Constitutional rights. And being more discreet about who gets to have a

firearm and right to kill with a firearm, I think is something that would

be in our national interest to revisit that.

Besides her apparent problems with speaking clearly —the transcript

reads like she went to the Al Sharpton School of Public Rambling— the

central point of Wagner’s answer is idiotic. For what is it that ultimately

guarantees all our rights if not the ability of armed and therefore free

men to defend those rights?

I wonder if Wagner would be willing to take time out during her next

television appearance to tell the women of Spartanburg: “Don’t get a gun

to protect yourself: Just call the police and hopefully they’ll get there

before the attack is over.”

Where does MSNBC find these people anyway?

What We Have Here is a Failureto NegotiateNOV 10, 2011 09:43A.M.

What We Have Here is a Failure to Negotiate

By Alan Caruba

AmmoLand Gun News

Washington, DC --(Ammoland.com)- In the movie, “Cool Hand Luke”

the warden of a prison camp utters the now famous line, “What we have

here is a failure to communicate.”

The decision of the Democratic members of the Congressional Super

Committee to refuse further discussion of revenue issues is a failure to

negotiate.

I have a friend, Jim Camp, who is one of the world’s authorities on

negotiation, a coach to international corporations and others that engage

in multi-million dollar deals requiring major negotiation skills. When the

news was reported on Wednesday that the Democratic members had

walked away from the negotiation table, I picked up the phone to ask for

his reaction.

“We live in an era when the conventional wisdom is that

compromise is the goal,” said Camp. “The real goal is a valid

mission and purpose. What’s missing is that the committee as

a whole is not focused on the real mission which is the best

result for the American people and the nation. Instead, their

goal is political gamesmanship, a massive over-reach by both

parties to the negotiation.”

Based on more than twenty years of coaching negotiations, Camp said

“Tactics do nothing more than create conflict.” The news media reports

on tactics, but Camp said “Neither party is negotiating to the benefit of

the American people.”

What is at stake? It’s not whether Democrats or Republicans “win” the

Super Committee negotiation.

Created under the Budget act of 2011, the law was passed the first two

days of August when the nation’s $14.294 trillion debt ceiling was raised

to avoid a potential national default. It was the fourth increase of the

mandatory borrowing cap during President Obama’s first term; one that

saw the first down-grade of the nation’s top credit rating in its history.

Consisting of six members each from the House and Senate, evenly

divided between Republicans and Democrats, the official name for the

Super Committee is the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction.

The amount of debt is comparable to the annual Gross Domestic

Product, meaning that every dollar the economy earns is equal to the

amount of debt that exists.

In the basic terms, Democrats want to raise revenue through taxation to

address the debt and permit for more spending. Republicans have

committed themselves to avoid such an increase during a period of

recession.

The decision to walk away from the negotiation reflects one of Camp’s

major warnings. “To act according to how you think the other side will

react to you and your actions creates great conflict. To think you know

what someone is going to do or say based on how you impact them is to

attempt suicide.”

It would be naive to think that the Democrat and Republican members of

the Super Committee are not negotiating with an eye on the 2012

elections. As a November 10 Wall Street Journal editorial notes,

Republicans have offered a plan “to raise revenues by $500 billion over

10 years as part of a tax reform that would lock in lower rates in return

for giving up deductions. Democrats have rejected it, which is puzzling

since it would achieve so many of their stated goals.”

Refusing to negotiate makes sense only if Democrats are positioning

themselves to blame the Republicans for the failure to avoid another

potential down-grade of the nation’s credit rating. It’s not the truth, but

the truth is often a rare commodity in politics.

“What we are witnessing,” said Camp, “is a textbook

definition of incompetence.”

All negotiation, says Camp, is based on emotion. When both sides share

a vision of the end result of the negotiation it can move forward. When

emotions blind one or both sides, it is doomed.

As a recent Los Angeles Times editorial noted, in order to slash federal

borrowing by at least $1.2 trillion over the coming decade, “members

will have to bridge a deep partisan divide over taxes, spending

programs, and the effect of government spending on the economy.”

That is the mission, the purpose of the Super Committee, and the

editorial warned that “If they have any doubts about the need to cut a

deal, however, they should turn their attention to what’s happening on

the other side of the Atlantic.”

The turmoil in Europe, based on decades of excessive borrowing and

spending by several nation-states, is a reflection of how critical it is for

the Super Committee to achieve its mission.

Automatic cuts, not guided by the need, for example, of maintaining our

military strength could have disastrous consequences if the U.S. was

perceived as weakened and vulnerable by its enemies. Diminishing our

military capabilities at this time is not an option.

The Super Committee is an admission of the failure of the U.S. Congress

to fulfill its responsibility to conduct the nation’s borrowing and

spending in a prudent fashion and it’s been a failure in which both

Parties have participated for a very long time.

The deadline for the Super Committee to reach agreement is November

23, the day before Thanksgiving and one side has walked away from the

table.

I wish the Super Committee could bring Jim Camp in to help

resolve the impasse. Simply stated, failure is not an option.

Editor’s note: Jim Camp is the founder of the Camp Negotiation

Institute and the author of “Start with No” and “No, the Only

Negotiating System You Need for Work and Home” which has been

translated into twelve languages.

Report Anti-Gun Businesses – Exposing & Boycotting Criminal

Safe Zones

Wisconsin Gun Owners

Wisconsin --(Ammoland.com)- The WGO Don’t Buy List is a Citizen

Watch-list exposing Wisconsin businesses that post No Concealed

Weapons signs – businesses disrespectful of the rights of their

customers.

George Webb’s: Official Criminal Safe Zone These businesses simply

can’t afford to alienate pro-gun people in a state like Wisconsin where

there are so many gun owners, but they are posting these outrageous

signs nonetheless because they don’t anticipate the loss of any

substantial revenue.

With your help, this program aims to change that.

Download the current (11/09/11) Don’t Buy List in .PDF digital format.

Businesses that have been reported are listed in alphabetical order by

city.

As of today’s date, there are roughly 50 businesses on the list, but we

know there are many more out there across the state. That’s why we need

your help to report offenders.

Gun Free Zones

No CCW Signs: = Segregation, Bigotry and Ignorance

These anti-gun, anti-concealed carry businesses will be notified that they

have been added to the Don’t Buy List and given an opportunity to

remove the signs. If the signs come down, they will be promptly removed

from the list.

The Don’t Buy List will be distributed at gun shows, through the mail,

the Internet, sportsman’s clubs, frankly anywhere and everywhere.

We are asking Wisconsin gun owners to do three things:

• Report all businesses posting no CCW signs using this form. This

will give other permit holders a “heads up.”

• Inform these businesses that they have lost your business until the

signs come down and they begin to respect the Bill of Rights. Take

your business to the competition!

• Make a financial contribution to support this program. The more

resources WGO can commit to this program, the wider we can

distribute this list and the greater impact we’ll have. Donate

Thanks for your vigilance and support.

About:

WGO works for grassroots gun owners, not politicians. While many gun

lobbies fight for “reasonable gun control,” WGO sets a higher standard:

Defining the terrain of pro-gun political battle. Sure, many groups claim

they’re “pro-gun” – all the while they provide cover for anti-gun deals cut

by politicians – but only WGO truly informs gun owners, remaining

committed to a 100% pro-gun position. We oppose all gun control –

regardless of the political party – and work tirelessly to restore the

Second Amendment. Visit www.wisconsingunowners.org
