Wide/Establishing Shots

• In the first wide shot in the sequence, it shows a girl sitting alone on a sofa shot from a mid/high angle. The girl is fidgeting and looks slightly anxious, as if waiting for something. This is anchored in the next shot by someone walking into the room.

• In the penultimate shot, which is the only other establishing shot, it shows the brunette girl leaving the blonde girl in the room. We used the wide shot when the brunette girl both entered and left the room, which meant you saw both character’s facial expression and body language in the shot.

Extreme Close Ups

• In the second shot, we added in an extreme close up before the other character is introduced of just their feet walking into the room. This added mystery and suspicion, as you didn’t know who had walked in and could only draw conclusion from the footwear.

• The next extreme close up we used was of her troubled face, which connoted the blonde character’s emotion towards the instructions she had been given. The extreme close up meant the audience could see every expression she showed.

• The final extreme close ups were the final shots, showing both girls looking very upset and angry.

Over-The-Shoulder / Close Up

• The use of the close up is to show one character’s feelings and facial expressions, which is done in the two first shots shown. They entirely show the character and so that is all you have to focus on.

• In the over the shoulder shots, you are seeing the other person from the point of view of the other person, so in the shot where the blonde girl’s face is visible, it is from the perspective of the brunette and vice versa.

Editing

• Once we’d filmed the sequence many times from all these angles, we cut them and placed the shots we wanted from the log bin into our timeline on Final Cut Pro. We used shot reverse shot to show the different goals that both characters want to achieve by switching from one character’s face to another as both are speaking, to make the conversation two sided and include continuity editing. We found it very challenging to include continuity editing as there was a constant electronic noise in the background the whole time when we were shooting, but by playing with the volume level, we managed to work around it.
