The Lessons of Palm Sunday: Humility, Patience, ObedienceSt. Francis de Sales, the great evangelist and spiritual writer, made a keen observation about Jesus’ manner of entry into Jerusalem on the first Palm Sunday. Our Lord chose to ride in on a young donkey, a humble animal and an example of Christ’s humility. The donkey, St. Francis noted, is also a model of patience, allowing for mistreatment without resistance, just as Jesus “…endured scourging and ill treatment…without saying a word.” Humility and patience, St. Francis said, can hardly exist without each other. He also observed that the donkey is obedient, willing to carry a heavy load.

St. Francis de Sales stated that these qualities of humility, patience and obedience are necessary for any true follower of Our Savior.

On Holy Thursday, our dear Lord instituted the Eucharist and the priesthood. Pope St. John Paul II gave challenging advice to his brother priests: “In practical terms, the only priest who will always prove necessary to people is the priest who is conscious of the full meaning of his priesthood: the priest who believes profoundly, who professes his faith with courage, who prays fervently, who teaches with deep conviction, who serves, who puts into practice in his own life the program of the Beatitudes, who knows how to love disinterestedly, who is close to everyone, and especially to those who are most in need…”

St. John Paul’s serious words to his brother priests should make us mindful of our duties to our priests: respect, kindly assistance and encouragement, and above all, daily prayers and sacrifices.

Holy Thursday: A Reminder to Care for Our Priests

Divine Mercy Can Save the World Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, says, “Through prayer and openness to grace, you can help God’s mercy to overcome evil in our time.” Father reminds us of St. Paul’s words: “Where sin abounded, grace abounded all the more.” – Romans 5:20

In instructing us about Divine Mercy, Pope St. John Paul II said that we’re not to flee the evils that afflict modern humanity. Rather, we’re to directly confront them with the most powerful weapon of the Redemption: God’s merciful love.

Our Lord Himself taught St. Faustina a beautiful prayer called the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Fr. Gaitley regards it as a kind of extension of what he calls “the supercharged moment of the Mass.” This is when the priest takes the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ and offers it “through Him, with Him, and in Him” to the Father, with the Holy Spirit.

Do you and your family want to unleash an ocean of mercy upon hurting humanity? If we fervently pray the Chaplet in union with the Mass, we can do it. Praying the Chaplet, we can be confident that the Father will “have mercy on us and on the whole world.”

Works of Mercy are needed, too. Jesus taught St. Faustina “The Three Degrees of Mercy,” that is: mercy in deeds, words and prayers.

See abbreviated Chaplet on Program Page. Divine Mercy leaflet can be ordered for immediate delivery. See page 4. Please promote this powerful devotion which can help save the world.
