Let Us Rejoice and Be Glad…………and be Grateful!Dear Friends,
The psalm since Easter has proclaimed, “This is the Day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad!” It is a joy filled psalm that echoes the joy and beauty of the season. It is one of my favorite psalms!As you look around the Church today, you will notice the magnificent beauty that surrounds you: the colors, the flowers, the banners, the candles, and the “Alleluia” altar cloths. The baptismal font is decorated with lilies and ferns. The Paschal candle has taken a prominent place by the ambo. And, the somber music of Lent has been replaced by the “Alleluia:” “Alleluias” resounding in songs and hymnody and our music. It is a joy filled time at SJB and at Churches around the world.But how did this all happen? It seemed to be magic, .and it seemed to happen over night. One Sunday, purple was the dominant color and the altar was not decorated with beautiful lilies and hydrangeas but cactus and terra cotta. So, how did this all happen?
This is where the gratitude comes in to play!It is the gratitude that we have for the many hands and hearts and voices that have come together and worked long and tirelessly to transform our worship space. They work “behind the scenes” throughout the year to make all this possible. To the many……we are grateful!There have been so very many people that have helped over the last several weeks to decorate, to clean, to learn music, to hang banners and hang wreaths, to prepare the Worship Aids and to transform SJB into a joy filled, holy place that we call home. To them, we say “thanks!”I wanted to let you know who these tireless and creative parishioners are. I wanted to let you know who came after work and on weekends to help out. To them, we say “thanks!”
Our parish Art and Environment team was the cornerstone of this amazing transformation. Thank you to Claudia Zelazko, Nancy Kraus, Fernando Ruiz, Aaron Seret, Marianne Sackett, John Parizek, Maureen Podolak, Michael Hawes and Alice Vila and the Religious Ed Confirmation Class. You did amazing work, ironing and stitching and cleaning and laundering the many cloths for the altar as well as banners and other liturgical things. You cleaned the candelabras; you polished the vessels; you watered the plants and so much more. Thanks to the many volunteers who helped out as well.

Many of the students in both our school and Religious Education program are in the final stages of preparing to receive sacraments in May. First Communions will be celebrated at the 5 p.m. Mass on Saturday, May 5th and the 9:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Masses on Sunday, May 6th. Confirmation will be celebrated at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9th. Please keep these students in your prayers during these final weeks and consider joining us at one or more of the Masses to share their sacramental joy!
ATTENTION ALL ENGAGED COUPLES: DON’T MISS YOUR CHANCE TO SIGN UP FOR THE SPRING PRE-
CANA SESSIONS AT ST. JOHN BERCHMANS!This seminar will provide you with an all-inclusive and comprehensive appreciation and knowledge of the Vocation and Sacrament of Matrimony. Our goal is to present both the theology and practical “tools” of Christian Marriage so that you will come to a deeper understanding of how marriage is a participation in life together here on earth.Each seminar consists of four sessions. The first three sessions will take place on Monday evenings from 7pm-9pm and the last session will take place on Sunday at 4pm with an opportunity to attend the sacrament of Reconciliation and 6:30pm Mass. Couples are expected to attend all four sessions in order to fulfill the PreCana requirement.
The sessions for Spring 2018 will take place on the following dates: Monday, April 30th 7pm-9pm Monday, May 7th 7pm-9pm Monday, May 14th 7pm-9pm Sunday, May 20th 4pm-6pm (concludes with 6:30pm Mass)
The cost for the seminar is $100 for couples getting married at SJB, and $150 for couples getting married at another parish. This fee can be paid by cash or check on the day of the first session. Desde la Pascua el salmo ha proclamado: “Este es el día que actuó el Señor; ¡sea nuestra alegría y nuestro gozo “Es un salmo lleno de alegría que hace eco de la alegría y la belleza de la temporada. ¡Es uno de mis salmos favoritos!
Si observa alrededor de la Iglesia hoy, se dará cuenta de la magnífica belleza que le rodea: los colores, las flores, los estandartes, las velas y los manteles del altar “Aleluya”. La fuente bautismal está decorada con lirios y helechos. El cirio Pascual ocupa un lugar prominente en el ambón. Y, la música sombría de la Cuaresma ha sido reemplazada por el “Aleluya”: “Aleluyas” que resuenan en los cantos, himnos y nuestra música. Es un momento lleno de alegría en SJB y en las Iglesias de todo el mundo.
¿Pero cómo fue posible que esto sucediera? Parecía magia, y apareció de la noche a la mañana. Un domingo, el color dominante era el violeta y el altar no estaba decorado con hermosos lirios y hortensias, sino con cactus y terracota. Entonces, ¿cómo sucedió todo esto?
¡Aquí es donde la gratitud llega!
Es la gratitud que tenemos por las muchas manos, corazones y voces que se han unido y trabajado incansablemente para transformar nuestro espacio de adoración. Trabajan “detrás de la escena” durante todo el año para que todo esto sea posible. Por todas estas personas ... ¡estamos agradecidos!
Muchas personas han ayudado durante las últimas semanas a decorar, limpiar, aprender música, colgar estandartes y coronas, a preparar los libros de la Misa y a transformar SJB en un lugar sagrado lleno de alegría al cual nosotros llamamos hogar. A todos les decimos “¡gracias!”
Deseo dejarle saber quiénes son estos feligreses incansables y creativos. Quiero que sepan quién vino después del trabajo y los fines de semana para ayudar. A ellos les decimos “¡gracias!”
Nuestro equipo de Arte y Medio Ambiente de la parroquia fue la piedra angular de esta increíble transformación. Gracias a Claudia Zelazko, Nancy Kraus, Fernando Ruiz, Aaron Seret, Marianne Sackett, John Parizek, Maureen Podolak, Michael Hawes, Alice Vila y la Clase de Confirmación de Educación Religiosa. Hicieron un trabajo increíble, planchando, cosiendo, limpiando y lavando muchas telas para el altar, así como los estandartes y otras cosas litúrgicas. Ellos limpiaron los candelabros; pulieron los recipientes; regaron las plantas y mucho más. Gracias a los muchos voluntarios que ayudaron también.

Este curso le proporcionará un aprecio y conocimiento integral y completo de la Vocación y el Sacramento del Matrimonio. Nuestro objetivo es presentar tanto la teología como las “herramientas” prácticas del matrimonio cristiano para que comprendan más profundamente cómo el matrimonio es una participación, juntos en la vida aquí en la tierra. Este curso consta de cuatro sesiones. Las primeras tres sesiones tendrán lugar los lunes por la tarde de 7 p.m. a 9 p.m. y la última sesión tendrá lugar el domingo a las 4 p.m. con la oportunidad de asistir al sacramento de la Reconciliación y Misa a las 6:30 p.m. Se espera que las parejas asistan a las cuatro sesiones para cumplir con el requisito de PreCana. Estas sesiones serán en inglés.Las sesiones para la primavera de 2018 tendrán lugar en las siguientes fechas: Lunes, 30 de abril 7 p.m.-9 p.m.
