NOTE FROM OUR SUMMER SEMINARIAN:
I am Tony Galati, your seminarian for the summer,
and I would like to express my thanks for the warm
welcome I have received here at Ascension. I am grateful
more than I can say.
A few things about me: I am the father of two sons,
32 and 29 – my younger son just got married. For 28 years
I worked as an executive for three different international
ocean shipping companies, leaving that business in 2005 to
take over at KBVM/Mater Dei radio where I served for
nearly 10 years as executive director. Since the day I
started at the Catholic radio station, my trajectory toward
the priesthood has been constant, and I just finished my
first year of four in theological studies at Mt. Angel.
I am looking forward to meeting as many of you as
I can before I resume my studies in August, and I thank you
again for your kindness.
God bless Ascension Parish!
Warmly,
Tony Galati,
Seminarian for the Archdiocese of Portland

Annual Parish Picnic Mark your calendar, save the date & plan to attend:
Sunday, August 6th at Berrydale Park. More information will follow. Invite your friends and family!
Would you like to help? Contact Darla Black, or the Parish Office.
Depave Ascension Social Concerns Team, in conjunction with our Pastoral Council, has been working with Depave on plans to remove two 12’ swaths of asphalt from the center parking aisles of our parking lot. The northern swath will run 125’ in length for a total removal of 1,500 ft2, while the southern swath would run 142’ in length for a total removal of 1700ft2. This project will not alter the current parking lot configuration, and will still comply with all applicable city code requirements for 90 degree parking alignments.
Why depave? Removal of this asphalt will create space for beautiful native landscaping and shade trees that will improve the curb appeal and functionality of the parking lot. We will reduce the impervious area by 3,200ft2, receive storm-water discounts for swales and save approximately $1,400 per year on our water bill.
What is Depave? Depave is a non-profit organization that partners with landowners and local groups to remove excess pavement and replace it with gardens, nature playgrounds, and community green spaces. See www.depave.org for more information.
How can parishioners help with this project? The tentative date for de-paving is Saturday, September 9. Parishioners, neighbors, friends and community partners are all invited to come and help. We will also need help serving refreshments that day. Please contact the parish office to sign up or for more information.
A concept plan is posted in our vestibule bulletin board.
“Then he sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the
servant of all.” Mark 9:35
