The Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP), in collaboration with Jose Rizal Memorial State University, is pleased to announce the English Extemporaneous Speech and Essay Writing Competition which will be held at Dakak Park and Beach Resort, Dapitan City, Philippines on February 5 – 8, 2018 as one of the highlights of the 16 th AUAP Learning and Sharing Forum. English language plays an essential role to weave the world into a single thread. Considered to be the international language of wider communication, it has already revolutionized the sphere when it comes to the field of education, business, trade and commerce. Thus, if one does not know how to communicate in English, then he or she will certainly fail to keep a pace of the progressive force of the world. According to Ahmad (2016), we are now witnessing the emergence of an advanced economy based on information and knowledge and probably the most important skill for knowledge workers in the new environment is the ability to communicate both in writing and in speech. Hence, in order to achieve desired success, students need to assess and respond to communication situations that occur constantly. This Extemporaneous Speech and Essay Writing Competition will provide a platform to student’s empowerment from all over the world: 1. to build skills and confidence in communication, and give them the opportunity to realize their full potential; 2. to accurately and precisely communicate in English – both in speaking and writing – in a variety of contexts and genres which further encourage them to develop their critical thinking skills; 3. to engage in an exchange of ideas and opinions on an international scale;
