SAFETY RULESATTENTION! BECOME ALERT! YOUR SAFETY IS INVOLVED!

Safety is a primary concern in the design andmanufacture of our products. Unfortunately, ourefforts to provide safe equipment can be wipedout by an operator’s single careless act.

In addition to the design and configuration ofequipment, hazard control and accident preven-tion are dependent upon the awareness, concern, judgement, and proper training ofpersonnel involved in the operation, transport, maintenance and storage of equipment.

It has been said “The best safety device is aninformed, careful operator.” We ask you to be thatkind of operator.

TRAINING■■ Safety instructions are important! Read allattachment and power unit manuals; follow allsafety rules and safety decal information.(Replacement manuals are available from sellingdealer.) Failure to follow instructions or safetyrules can result in serious injury or death.

■■ If you do not understand any part of this man-ual and need assistance, see your dealer.

■■ Operators must be instructed in and be capa-ble of the safe operation of the equipment, itsattachments, and all controls. Do not allow any-one to operate this equipment without properinstructions.

■■ Never allow children or untrained persons tooperate equipment.

■■ Train all new personnel and review instructionsfrequently with existing workers. A person who hasnot read and understood all operating and safetyinstructions is not qualified to operate themachine. An untrained operator exposes himselfand bystanders to possible serious injury or death.

PREPARATION■■ Always wear relatively tight and belted clothingto avoid getting caught in moving parts. Wear stur-dy, rough-soled work shoes and protective equip-ment for eyes, hair, hands, hearing, and head; andrespirator or filter mask where appropriate.

■■ Make sure attachment is properly secured, adjusted, and in good operating condition.

■■ Power unit must be equipped with ROPS orROPS cab and seat belt. Keep seat belt securelyfastened. Falling off power unit can result in deathfrom being run over or crushed. Keep foldableROPS system in “locked up” position at all times.

■■ A minimum 20% of tractor and equipmentweight must be on the tractor front wheels whenattachments are in transport position. Withoutthis weight, tractor could tip over, causing per-sonal injury or death. The weight may be attainedwith a loader, front wheel weights, ballast in tiresor front tractor weights. Weigh the tractor andequipment. Do not estimate.

TRANSPORTATION■■ Always comply with all state and local lawsgoverning highway safety and lighting and mark-ing requirements.

■■ Never allow riders on power unit or attachment.

■■ Do not operate or transport on steep slopes.

■■ Use extreme care and reduce ground speed onslopes and rough terrain.

■■ Do not operate or transport equipment whileunder the influence of alcohol or drugs. Consultyour doctor about operating this machine whiletaking prescription medications.

OPERATION■■ Never go underneath equipment (lowered to theground or raised) unless it is properly blockedand secured. Never place any part of the bodyunderneath equipment or between moveableparts even when the engine has been turned off.Hydraulic system leak down, hydraulic systemfailures, mechanical failures, or movement of con-trol levers can cause equipment to drop or rotateunexpectedly and cause severe injury or death.

■■ Always sit in power unit seat when operatingcontrols or starting engine. Securely fasten seatbelt, place transmission in neutral, engage brake, and ensure all other controls are disengagedbefore starting power unit engine.

■■ Know your controls and how to stop engineand attachment quickly in an emergency.

■■ Consult local utilities before working. Knowlocation of and avoid contacting all undergroundcables, pipelines, overhead wires and other haz-ards in working area.

OPERATION (cont’d from page 3)■■ Operate only in daylight or good artificial light.

■■ Keep bystanders away from equipment.

■■ Keep hands, feet, hair, and clothing away fromequipment while engine is running. Stay clear ofall moving parts.

■■ Power unit must be equipped with ROPS orROPS cab and seat belt. Keep seat belt securelyfastened. Falling off power unit can result indeath from being run over or crushed. Keep fold-able ROPS system in “locked up” position at alltimes.

■■ Never allow riders on power unit or attachment.

■■ Look down and to the rear and make sure areais clear before operating in reverse.

■■ Use extreme care when working close to fences, ditches, other obstructions, or on hillsides.

■■ Do not operate or transport on steep slopes.

■■ Do not stop, start, or change directions sud-denly on slopes. Always cut down slopes; neveracross the face.

■■ Use extreme care and reduce ground speed onslopes and rough terrain.

■■ Keep alert and watch the front as well as therear when working with the landscape rake.

■■ Use extreme caution when backfilling deepholes or trenches.

■■ When using the landscape rake in a reverseposition, use extra care. Do not ram rake intoobstructions (including piles of dirt). Tractor liftarms and the rake are not built to take highimpact loads in this position. Ramming back-wards can also dislodge operator from seatand/or tractor controls, resulting in possible seri-ous injury or death.

■■ Watch for and avoid hidden obstructions, i.e.,buried pipes, rocks, concrete piers, uneven con-crete slabs, stumps, etc., when operating.

■■ Stop power unit and equipment immediatelyupon striking an obstruction. Turn off engine, remove key, inspect, and repair any damagebefore resuming operation.

STORAGE■■ To help prevent injury caused by a fallingimplement, always detach on a hard level surface.

Level the A-frame and tinebar with 3 point connect-ing links and top link. Adjusting the top link length willchange the fore and aft pitch of the teeth.

Lengthening the top link will cause the teeth tocontact the ground with a sharper pitch and be moreaggressive.

You may need to adjust the optional gauge wheelsafter adjusting pitch to maintain the desired workingdepth.

IMPORTANT■■ Make sure rake is at least 6” (15 cm) fromtractor tires throughout complete range of 3point hitch operation.

For Category 0, attach the top link to the hole thatis below the welded pin.

For Quick Hitch application, the top center hitchhook will seat into welded 11/4” diameter pin. This pindoes not interfere when unit is used with a standard3 point hitch.

CONNECTING LANDSCAPE RAKETO TRACTOR

The landscape rake is compatible with Category 1,3 point tractors equipped with side swing-type lowerlift arms and some Category 0 tractors.

1. To avoid interference with the landscape rake, adjust tractor drawbar to the shortest and highestposition.

2. Attach the tractor’s lower lift arms to the land-scape rake and secure in place with lock pin.

For Category 0 Hitch application, order optional pullpin kit part # 5WS590331 (one pair); replace theCategory 1 pins with the Category 0 pins. Make surethe Category 0 pins are on the inside. (ModelLR2060L only.)

3. Tractor must be equipped with stabilizer bars, adjustable sway chains, or sway blocks to keepthe implement from swinging side to side.

For Category 1 Quick Hitch application, orderoptional bushing kit part # 5WS862500 (one pair);place bushing over draw pin and fasten with roll pin.

4. Attach the tractor’s top link to the top of the land-scape rake’s mast and secure with the top link pinand retaining pin supplied with the top link.

ADJUSTMENTS

Reversing

For most tractors, the rake may be rotated 360degrees without unhooking from the tractor. To rotatewithout unhooking, remove lock pin and adjustmentpin assembly. Rotate to desired position, replace pinassembly and secure with lock pin.

Angling

Remove lock pin and adjustment pin assembly. The landscape rake tinebar may be set 15 degrees

or 30 degrees to the left or right for forward raking. For back raking, the tinebar may be set 15 degrees

to the left or right. Replace adjustment pin and lockpin.

OPERATION

Attaching the landscape rake to the tractor increas-es the overall length of the working unit. Allowadditional clearance for the landscape rake to swingwhen turning.

■■ Watch for and avoid hidden obstructions, i.e.,buried pipes, rocks, concrete piers, or unevenslabs of concrete, when operating, or rakedamage may occur.

■■ Stop tractor and implement immediately uponstriking an obstruction. Turn off engine, removekey, inspect, and repair any damage beforeresuming operation.

■■ Always wear relatively tight and belted clothingto avoid entanglement in moving parts. Wearsturdy, rough-soled work shoes and protectiveequipment for eyes, hair, hands, hearing, andhead.

11 Operation

Operation Cont’d

Grading

Adjust the 3 point hitch upper link so that the frameof the landscape rake is parallel with the ground. Ifgauge wheels are used, adjust them for the amountof cut you want to take, usually about 1”. Set the rakeangle adjustment as desired – straight for grading orangled for a windrowing effect. It is recommended tooperate the rake at a slow speed (max. 3 mph) togive ample time for fine material to flow through thetines.

WARNING

■■ When using the landscape rake in a reverseposition use extra care – DO NOT RAM LAND-SCAPE RAKE into obstructions (including hardpacked dirt piles)! Tractor lift arms and the land-scape rake are not built to take high impact loadsin this position. RAMMING backwards can alsodislodge operator from seat and/or tractorcontrols, resulting in possible serious injury ordeath.

Incorporating Seed

Seed is best incorporated by making two passes indiagonal directions. Consult your seed supplier orreference book for the recommended seed depth.Set the rake straight and operate the rake at twotimes the recommended seed depth. Grass seed, forexample, should be covered approximately 1/4”.Operate the rake at 1/2” penetration and make twopasses in diagonal directions. The use of gaugewheels will provide much better depth control andimprove the quality of the job.

These suggestions are generalities; best results willbe obtained after some experience.

NOTE: Do not load either end of the landscaperake heavily. Try to balance the load on both ends ofthe landscape rake.

Raking

Vegetative trash and clods or rocks may be rakedinto piles or into windrows for easier pickup. DO NOToverload rake – remove large rocks, roots, or limbsby other means.

Leveling

The rake should be straight across, i.e., 90° to theline of travel of the tractor, in other words 0°horizontal angle.

There should be 0° vertical angle, i.e., the lift armson the tractor 3 point hitch should be parallel to theground.

The use of gauge wheels will make the levelingoperation much easier and improve the quality of thejob.

When using the rake with gauge wheels, you mayneed to adjust the gauge wheels after adjusting pitchto maintain the desired working depth.

Angle Grading

The rake should be angled horizontally only enoughto allow the material to slide along it easily. The angle(tilt) of the rake must be set to suit conditions. This iscontrolled by the lift arm leveling assembly (turnbuck-le) on the tractor 3 point hitch.

Reverse Operation

Depending on the job, the angle grading or levelingposition may be used. For heavy work, use a regu-lar 3 point rear blade.

NOTE: Most rakes and blades are damaged in thisposition – use extra care – DO NOT RAM intoobstructions (including hard packed dirt piles)!
