"Max Talrney, a doctor of medicine and a per- sonal friend of Einstein, has succeeded as prob- ably no other man has in producing a book, explaining the relativity theory which any per- son of ordinary intelligence can read with un- derstanding. His powers of logical but simple exposition are remarkable. With no use of imperfect analogies, from which incorrect im- pressions too often come, with a scrupulous care to avoid all mysticism and ideas merely fanciful, and leaving out all philosophical dis- cussion, Dr. Talmev has explained the facts so clearly that any person with an interest in this subject can grasp themn. A non-scientist reader, not accustomed to the slowness with which he must read scientific work in order to assimi- late it, should be cautioned not to read more than one or two of the short chapters of this book at a time, and to think them over care- fully before reading further. The mind will then more easily become accustomed to this unusual line of thought, and the reader will become aware that he as well as the fictitious 'only twelve men in the world beside Einstein' can understand the relativity theory. "The concluding chapter on the formative period of Einstein's life by this personal friend is an interesting light on the life of the great mart whose theory bears his name. '
