Behind a B & L Microscope

The innate quality of a Microscope can not be judged by its appearance or speci- fications. Instead, the discriminating buyer bases his selection on factors behind the in-

Looking behind the AKW Wide Field Binocular Microscope, one finds the great plant of the Bausch & Lomb Optical Com- pany with production facilities permitting a process of manufacture under one con- trol so complete that it ineludes even the making of optical glass from which the lenses are ground. This is one of the factors behind B & L Microscopes that make them Standards of Comparison thruout the world.

AMERICAN MEN OF SCIENCE A BIOGRAPHICAL DIRECTORY EDITED BY J. McKEEN CATTELL

A fourth edition of this book is now in preparation. There are only left about 25 copies of the third edition which is an invaluable work of reference for libraries and for all having relations with scientific men. The first and second editions were sold out before a new edi- tion was printed. There are many who need the third edition and should order it now.

The third edition of the Directory contains about 9,600 sketches as compared with 4,000 in the first edition and 5,500 in the second edition. The work should be in the hands of all those who are directly or indirectly interested in scientific work.

(1) Men of science will find it indispensable. It gives not only the names, addresses, scientific records and the like of their fellow workers, but also a usefutl summary of the re- search wvork of the coutntry, completed and in progress.

(2) Those interested in science, even thoutgh they may not be professionally engaged in research work, will find murch of interest and value to them in the book.

(3) All who have or wish to have relations with scientific men will find the book invalu- able.

(4) Executives in institutions of learning will use the book constantly. (5) Editors of newspapers and periodicals will find it to be one of the works of refer-

ence that they will need most frequently. (6) Libraries will find the book to be a necessary addition to their reference shelves.

AMPLIFICATION WITHO UT

I ~DISTORTION Ideas of reception have changed. A year or so ago the main thing was dis-

tance, now it's quality or how well you can hear that counts. Receivers have changed very rapidly in recent years. Radical developments

have taken place and made receivers but recently purchased obsolete. The best singers and music cannot be fully appreciated unless the audio end

of your receiver embodies the new principles of audio amplification. With the new theory and design of audio amplifiers the last great change in

Radio reception has been made for some time to come. A set changed over now will last for a long time.

The Acme Apparatus Company have developed a new High Quality Audio Amplifier which is the result of many years of research and development.

With this new High Quality Amplifier a new sense of nearness is brought out with the joyous realization of how near to the real thing radio reception can be.

The addition of this amplifier to any set is a simple matter. Full size prints plainly showing the hook-up and layout dimensions have been prepared and may be obtained by sending 25 cents together with the coupon.
