St. Mary Magdalene will host The Blessing of The Animals in the Parish Courtyard on Tuesday, October 4th at 7:45am in honor of the Feast of St. Francis (October 4th).

Because of the stories of St. Francis’s love of animals, there is a tradition to bless animals on or near his feast day.

All SMMCS families are welcome to bring their domestic pet to the blessing; however, parents/family members attending must park on the parish side (South Houston Avenue) and not bring pets through the school.

Students are expected to return to class immediately following the blessing.

Please note, students who bring pets must have a parent/guardian available to take the animal home. Pets are not allowed in the school building.

Is your child baptized in the Catholic Church?

Is your child in 2nd grade or higher?

Do they need to be prepared for First Communion?

If the answer to these three questions is "YES", then please attend the Sacrament Orientation meeting next Monday, September 26th at 6:00pmin the Church. This is an introductory meeting for parents - so your child does not really need to attend. We will review the sacrament guidelines and calendar for Reconciliation and Eucharist. Please bring $25 (cash or check, payable to St. Mary Magdalene) for the sacrament book they will use during this process. Questions? Please call Mike Smith at (281) 446-2933 or email him at [email protected].

SMMCS Pack 1610 marched in the 48th Annual Fiestas Patrias Parade on Saturday. Our two SMMCS Boy Scouts, CJ Bennett and Thomas Docog, were among 573 walkers. Fiestas Patrias is a Spanish phrase meaning

“Patriotic Holidays" or "National Holidays." It refers to the celebration of the independ-ence of Mexi-co, Chile and Guatemala. In Mexico it's not only the celebration for independ-ence, but it

can be also called the Month of the Motherland, (Mes de la Patria). In the United States, Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15th, the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico declared its independence on September 16th and Chile on September 18th. September 15th and 16th are the main days of commemoration, but traditionally the whole month is full of celebrations as some significant events occurred related to the fight for freedom and sovereignty of Mexico.
