A letter from the Pastor My dear People at Blessed Seelos Parish:
We may face the realization that we cannot love - do not have the capacity to love - in the completely unselfish, unwavering, unconditional fashion that God calls me to love. If God is Love Loving, then I am something much, much less. We may also face the realization that we cannot be magnanimous and generous in the completely grace-filled, wholly generous fashion of God – God who has given me so much, who asks nothing in return other than my devotion. I am weak and want to retain control of “my” world, my family, my home, selfishly guarding these… as if they were mine. Were Christ to ask of me what he asked of the rich man in the Gospel today (Mark 10: 17-20), that I sell all of my possessions to follow him, I wonder if I might be able to do so, on a good day? Could I turn away from all of my physical, intellectual, emotional and ego attachments to wholly serve my God? I would want to, just as the rich man and the disciples wanted to. But I fear that I could not. The only way that this could be possible would be by getting so close to Christ, that I begin to experience his very life in me. That seems to be more and more what the Church needs today.
Alguna vez quizás nos demos cuenta que no podemos amar—no tenemos la capacidad de amar—en una manera total, generosa, sin condiciones, como Dios nos pide que amemos. Si Dios es el Amor amando, entonces yo soy mucho, pero mucho menos. Quizás también nos demos cuenta que no podemos ser magnánimos y generosos como Dios quiere—Dios me ha dado tanto, y no pide mucho de vuelta sino mi devoción. Soy débil y quiero mantener control de mi mundo, mi familia, mi hogar, egoístamente guardando estas cosas como si fueran mías. Si Cristo me pidiera lo que le pidió al joven rico del evangelio de hoy (Marcos 10, 17-20), que vendiera todas mis posesiones para seguirlo, no creo que ni en un buen día pudiese hacer eso. ¿Podría darle la espalda de todas mis ataduras: físicas, intelectuales, emocionales y a mi ego para poder servir completamente a mi Dios? Me gustaría hacerlo, como quería el joven rico y los discípulos. Pero me temo que no podría. La única manera de poderlo lograr sería acercarme tanto a Jesús, que empezara a experimentar su forma de vivir en mí. Eso parece ser cada día mas, lo que la Iglesia necesita hoy. Fr. José Ignacio

Saint Gerard Majella, C.Ss.R.
St. Gerard was born on April 6, 1726 in Muro Lucano, Naples and died on October 16, 1755 (29 years) in Materdomini,
Naples. He was beatified on January 29, 1893 by Pope Leo XIII and canonized on December 11, 1904 by Pope Pius X. He is the Patron of Children (and in particular unborn children); Birth; mothers (and pregnant mothers in particular); people falsely
accused and of good confessions.
St. Gerard Malleja, nació el 6 de abril de 1726 en Muro Lucano, Nápoles y murió el 16 de octubre de 1755 (29 años) en
Materdomini, Campania, Nápoles. Fue beatificado el 29 de enero de 1893 por el Papa León XIII y Canonizado el 11 de diciembre
de 1904 por el Papa Pío X. Él es el Patrón de los Niños (y en particular los niños no nacidos); parto; madres (y madres
