Those of you returning from your summer sojourn will notice some improvements in the Lodge. During our annual down time we replaced the carpeting along the front wall in the bar area. We also added some TVs at the bar – thanks to the Elkettes. The Lodge room has been retiled and new stripping has been placed along the edge of the carpeting and wood floor. Those of you coming to the Lodge for dining and dancing will notice the chairs offer a new level of com- fort. They have all been replaced. We now have uniformity and better, thicker cushions to make you more comfortable. Thanks to a generous donation, again from the Elkettes, we have been working to upgrade our sound system. It is still a work in progress, but you will now be able to hear an- nouncements throughout the Lodge. Also, we now have lapel microphones for our Lodge meet- ings. For people like me who are hard of hearing, or whose voice doesn’t carry, this is wonderful. As more of you return I must ask that you be mindful of the way you park in our lot. I know we are woefully lacking in handicapped parking, but please do not park in the striped areas. Those areas designated emergency exits and cannot be blocked. Also, the striped areas between the spaces pro- vide ease for those who have problems getting out of cars, or those who use wheelchairs or walkers. You will notice a box in the foyer when you come to the Lodge. As part of our continuing effort to support Major Projects, we are once again collecting children’s books to be sent to Diamond Children’s Hospital at the Steele Children’s Research Center. The Elks have supported Steele for many years, both financially and with needed items like blankets, knitted hats, etc. They are very appreciative of our efforts and as a result of our donations, the continued research they conduct gives children a new lease on life. Attend Meetings Lodge business is conducted during the official Lodge Meetings and not

ARIZONA ELKS MAJOR PROJECT NEWS The “Name The Yellow Fellow” contest is off and running. Early returns are

in for the name and the contest will culminate with the ER March at the Mid-Year Convention. You can send your donation in support of your favorite name to AEMP, make the name of your choice on the envelope. The profits from this contest will be used for The Elks AEMP Major pro-jects. All tax deductible donations can be sent direct to the AEMP office at PO Box 12668 Tucson, AZ 85732. Please include your Lodge Number so your Lodge gets credit toward the awards programs.

By the way, it is not too late to get your tickets on the Mid-Year Raffle. That great Polaris Ranger, complete with trailer is going to some lucky individual at the Mid-Year Convention. Tickets $5 each or 3 for $10.

A REWARDING EXPERIENCE Lodge member Robert Watts was afforded a

once in a life time adventure. On September 3, 2015 a re-enactment of the signing of the peace treaty with Japan was held on the old Battleship Missouri, now serving as a museum in Hawaii. The original treaty was signed on the same Mis-souri on September 3, 1945 and the signing of this truce brought an end to the bloody war in the Pa-

cific that took so many lives of young Americans and men of other nations. Robert was among those who observed this momentous occasion. The ranks of those serving in the military during that period in our history are rapidly being diminished so to be physically able to attend such a function is remark-able.

Robert had a copy of his original navy uniform tailored especially for this occasion and was af-forded the honor of being recognized during the ceremony by an honor guard and special reserved seating. Congratulations Robert and thanks for

your service.

Remember!

Our Motto: “The faults of our members we write upon the

sand, their virtues upon the tablets of love and memory.”

The foundation and Ground work of our Order: “To do unto

others as we would they should do unto us.”

As our winter visitors return crowding on occasion will be

experienced. Please show patience during these periods.

to previous levels.

The parade will be held October 31, 2015 and

the deadline for application registration is Octo-

ber 5, 2015.

HELP NEEDED

Are you looking for a constructive way to spend a few

hours volunteering for the good of the lodge and meet-

ing new people? Looking for volunteers that can work

Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 10:00AM until

2:00PM preparing and serving hot dogs. Or working

with the Monday night Spaghetti/lasagna crew, or the

Tuesday Night Hamburger group. In any event you

will find the time spent rewarding and an opportunity

to meet new people while helping the Lodge. For de-

tails contact Blaine Yost @ 928-230-9527 or Club

Manager Sam Monteleone @ 928-855-2800.

Nancy Reynolds, Bob Heyboer, Merna Cotham, Di-anna Bridge, Frank Smith, HR Radtke, Gene Hall. Lynne Hall, Jan Heyboer, Terri Estrada.

Julie Cameron led the nearly 300 after school children in line

dance routines. Fol-lowing the dancing the children were per-mitted to use the large inflated slide and then each child was treated to pizza and cold wa-ter. To wrap up the

afternoon.

Drug Awareness chair Mike Arlowe, assisted by Di-

anne Bridge handed out Drug Awareness packets.

Hundreds of Lake Havasu elementary school students went from electric slide to inflatable slide at the Aquatic Center in the Parks and

Recreation program sponsored by the Elks of 2399. The volunteers instructed the students in dance routines and were served pizza fur-

nished by the Elks from Little Caesar Pizza and Smiths. Both merchants donated some of the pizza and water.

The Elks have a close relationship with the After School program sponsoring two dances every year, two family swims, a soccer shoot

and “Hoop Shoot.”

ELKETTE MESSAGE: Have you bought your tickets for the Fashion Show? It is just around the corner

on October 10, 2015 @ 11:00AM. Vickie Roberts has put her heart and soul into making this the event of the fall. You defi-nitely do not want to miss this super event. The next Saturday, October 17, 2015 is the Breast Cancer Walk. Last year we

walked in our Elk shirts and we would like to do it again. The Rally begins at 7:30AM and it would be great if a

large number of Elkettes participated wearing their Elkette shirts. Jim Travis is again chairing a coat drive. There will be a drop-off box for the coats and other warm attire that Jim will deliver to those in need. Rosalie Smith will again be collecting toys for the Christmas food baskets at the next three (3) meetings.

Wrap your toy and label it boy or girl and age. A ticket will be awarded for each gift donated to be used for 2 $25.00 drawings to be held during the December meeting.

Our annual See’s Candy sale will be held towards the end of November, so think about the days you would be able to sit in the lobby and sell, sell, sell! Teresa

Bremenour will have sign up sheets at the next meeting. Jan Prysiecki is chairing the Craft Fair this year and she has it well in hand. Volunteers for the kitchen will be re-quested during the October meeting. If you can’t make the meeting but would like to help please give me a call. Please get your new or slightly used items for our annu-al “Kids Turn To Shop” event in December. If it isn’t ap-propriated for the “Kids Turn To shop” it will be used dur-

ing the rummage sale in January. I will continue to ask for donations until December. Eddye Glenn and Terri Vodry are chairing the “Kids turn To Shop” and would appreciate all the help and suggestions you can give them. As you can see we are into our busy season and all help will be greatly appreciated plus the satisfaction you get out of volunteering for these worthy causes.

Deborah Haines Elkette President.

ELKETTES TURNOUT BIG TIME FOR LODGE CLEANUP

Some of the many Elkette volun-

teers who turned out for the annual

cleanup.

One of the most disgusting cleanup

chores was removing gum from

under the tables. Please refrain

from indulging in this gross action

and dispose of the gum in a sani-tary manner.

LODGE CLUB NEWS

FISHING CLUB REPORT : The September Derby was won by Charles Robertson and Ken Miller. In second place was Jerry Boyce and John

Burns. Third place was won by Jerry Kozachenko and Randy Parks.

The dates for the October Derby’s are: Wednesday October 7 and Wednesday Octo-ber 21 from 6:30 a.m. Weigh-in is at Wind-sor Beach South with scales open from 11:30 to noon. Lunch to follow at the lodge after fish cleaning.

Our Club received 20 new “Zebco” fishing rods and reels for our youth fishing program. The cost was split between “Zebco” charities and our Club. The Havasu fishing club members and their advisors at-tended our fish fry on Saturday, September 12. Their Club will be competing in a tournament on our lake in Novem-ber. We have been asked to help with some boats for their

teams to fish from. Details on this issue will follow at our next meeting. The “Pumpkin Festival” hosted by the Havasu Profes-sional Firefighters Association and the Lake Havasu Parks and Recreation Department will be held on Saturday and Sunday October 24th & 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Once again our club will set up and operate the juvenile

fishing ponds for boys and girls. This year the young partic-ipants will be fishing for Blue Gill. Additional information and sign-up sheets for volunteers will be at our next meet-ing. The 19th Annual Pearl Harbor Golf Tournament will be held in December and we have been asked to participate with the details to be discussed at our October meeting. Nominations for Board of Directors positions for The

Fishing Club will be opened at the October meeting. At the November meeting all candidates running for office will be finalized. Voting will then be held during the December meeting. The Club’s Board of Directors meeting will be held on Monday October 5,2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lodge. The Clubs general meeting will be held at the Lodge on Satur-

day, October 10,2015 at 1:00 p.m. Want to join the Elks Fishing Club? Applications are located on the Fishing Club bulletin board on the wall by the door leading to the Lodge office next to the bar. After filling out the form place the application in the blue box. Any questions call Jerry Boyce @ 928 -208-1073.

YACHT CLUB NEWS: As summer comes to an end we still enjoy the lake and boating up into October. Our winter visitors and locals are

returning to fill the Lodge and our events. Our charity Poker Run in September was a beautiful day and attendance was good. Lunch was served with the purchase of a poker hand and the lucky winners will be announced at the next meeting on October 17th. The Oktoberfest Committee is in full swing and we should have a packed lodge for the event. Brats, beer and

polka music will make for a festive

occasion. The “Pig in the Ground” is coming soon as is the Commodores Ball.

Plan to attend the next meeting and stayed tuned into your emails for updated information and ticket sales. The Yacht Club meetings are the third Saturday of eve-ry month, except December, at the Lodge at 2:00 PM.

Come early for seating, hot dogs, 50/50 draws and mem-bership drawings. Questions, call Commodore George @ 303-249-9424. Linda Wick.
