A QUICK MESSAGE FROM ME

How time flies when you are having fun (and are super busy)! With our new facilities, including the 242-seat Cube theatre, we have been able to offer more shows and events than ever before and we are so proud of the huge volume of quality arts and cultural experiences on offer. We need your support to make this great programming viable and accessible for our community, so I ask you to please do your best to ‘get off the couch’ and support arts and culture at your very own Entertainment Centre this winter! Of nearly 600 people recently surveyed, 93% said BREC contributes to making Bunbury the "arts and culture hub" of the South West. We can only keep doing what we do with the support of all our friends, funding partners and supporters, so I look forward to seeing you at BREC soon.

2015 marks the 57th season of the WA Performing Arts Eisteddfod. Last year, audience members saw 6500 individual performances over 21 days, six days a week for 12 hours a day. Professional adjudicators are employed to provide encouraging feedback on both the strengths and potential of each performer.

Approximately 12,000 people pass through BREC and are involved with the Eisteddfod in some manner, including performers, supporters, volunteers, audience members. The Eisteddfod plays an important role in growing and supporting cultural characteristics of the Bunbury community and surrounding areas. It contributes towards retaining and growing the liveability of Bunbury and its surrounds through its reputation as a platform for the performing arts (and creativity) hence contributing to increasing the regions

The Glenn Miller Orchestra returns to Bunbury by overwhelming popular demand for this concert spectacular, to honour the year of the ANZAC Centenary. Featuring America’s finest musicians together with the Moonlight Serenade Singers and The Broadway Swing Dancers, the concert will pay tribute to the spirit of ANZAC including a special feature of music and songs from the years of the Great War.

All the famous Glenn Miller classics will be performed by the Orchestra playing the original music arrangements. Timeless icons of American culture such as Chattanooga Choo Choo, A String Of Pearls, Tuxedo Junction, Moonlight Serenade, Little Brown Jug and the greatest Miller hit of all time, In The Mood, will be performed on the night.

It is fitting that The Glenn Miller Orchestra is returning in 2015, the year of the Centenary of

Anzac. Major Glenn Miller served in the United States Army Air Force from 1942 until his untimely death on 15 December 1944 when he was travelling to entertain US troops in France; his aircraft disappeared in bad weather over the English Channel.

Glenn Miller recorded many memorable hits from the 1914 to 1918 period which the orchestra will perform in tribute to the ANZACs.

BREC PRESENTS A MONKEY BAA THEATRE COMPANY PRODUCTION

I am Jack Based on the book by Susanne Gervay Adapted by Eva Di Cesare, Tim McGarry and Sandra Eldridge

Jack is smart, funny and is being bullied. What starts as an off-the-cuff joke during a handball competition soon turns into a set of circumstances whereby Jack is no longer safe in the playground. But with the use of self-expression through photography, Jack begins to make sense of his world - of his relationships with others, and most importantly, with himself.

This one-man show explores the often overlooked insidious taunting and teasing that bullies are so adept at inflicting on their victims and the roles that family and schools can play in responding. Jack takes us on a touching and sometimes comical journey as he moves from victim to victor. I am Jack is suitable for 8-14 year olds.

A-LIST ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS

Akmal - LostHello, my name is Akmal and I’m a comedian, although the term comedian is open to interpretation and highly subjective. Believe it or not, many people don’t find me funny at all - this includes members of my own family:

“If Akmal thinks he’s funny, then I hope he’s seeing a psychiatrist.” - Nabila Saleh

“He should never have left his job at Telstra; he would’ve been manager by now.” - Marie Saleh

“I don’t think he’s funny, in fact I find him rather annoying. Whenever I see him I get an overriding urge to punch him in the face.” - Steven Huntsman (Akmal’s psychiatrist)

Known for his incredible ability to deal with hot topics in a hilarious and slightly offensive way,

Akmal is one of Australia’s most respected and accomplished comics. Movies, sketch, stand-up, TV, radio and talk-show host, he's done it all. Don’t miss Akmal’s new show Lost.

This contemporary adaptation of Aristophanes’ classic comedy takes the best bits of the original Greek play and packs them into an hour of comedy, drama and clown balloons.

Lysistrata is an Athenian woman who convinces the other women of ancient Greece to go on a sex strike in order to persuade their men to end a terrible civil war.

In an original adaptation by Sholto Spradbury, this production was created by Vahri McKenzie, with a cast and crew of enthusiastic community members, using a workshop process involving improvisation and physical awareness.

The production has enjoyed the support of BREC’s Community Access Grant that aims to encourage innovation in home-grown performance and celebrate The Cube theatre’s versatile performance

space. Ausdance WA have offered support via their regional contemporary dance program.

Will Lysistrata pull it off? This fun and cheeky performance is for mature audiences: it features deliciously filthy language and some nudity. This is ancient comedy… with balls!

Dark acts result in darker consequences. And there is little that’s darker and more complicated than the act of revenge.

A family torn apart by murder, a son burdened with the truth and the task of avenging his father, and a country on the brink of war.

Anguish, passion and desperation collide in this tragic telling of Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark who is tormented by the impossibility of his dilemma, and who remains one of theatre’s most fascinating characters.

Damien Ryan, returning to Bell Shakespeare following the critically acclaimed Henry V in 2014, will deliver a new production of Hamlet, infused with the passion, contemplation and emotion that Shakespeare’s compelling poetry cries out for.

PARTNERS

The volunteers of the BREC Club are an integral part of the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre.

Almost one third of our BREC Club members volunteer to carry out Front of House and bar duties. In fact, for the total Front of House to be run and managed by volunteers in such a professional manner is unique in Australia!

To become a volunteer, please contact BREC ticketing on 1300 661 272 or visit our website www.bunburyentertainment.com Thanks for your support!
